Chapter 97: Surviving

It couldn’t be any clearer.

He was as good as dead.

His feet wobbled here and there as he tried to lift himself, only to end up on one knee.

Both his arms were gone, and all over him were bloody scars.

He radiated the obvious reek of death, yet something prevented Nora from going up, and that was his expression.

It was contrasting to the state he was in.

He smiled, his eyes on her, and she could almost see his wish:

For her to come forward and try to end him.

But it wasn’t the wish of someone who was hoping one would relieve him of his pain, by giving him a quick death.

It was a wicked smile, as if to lure her into her own death.

The state he was in made her doubt he could do anything of such, yet when she looked at the two corpses beneath her feet, one with a hollow stomach, organs resting by its side, and another with a neck completely ripped off, blood spurting out ceaselessly,

A chill crawled down her spine.

"Kill and Return. That was your command."

White said.

"Come and end it."

He called to her, but instead of stepping forward, Nora took steps backwards slowly.

"You’ve lost your hands, and they won’t stop bleeding."

"Half your bones are broken, and you might not know, but there’s a cut on your heart formed from a broken rib."

"Any more movement, even one as simple as walking, will only drive the rib further in and destroy your heart."

" If you do nothing but remain there, then without medical help from a healer, you will die in less than 7 hours."

She recited his fate.

"The academy has been fully wiped out, and it’s situated in the middle of a jungle, far away from any civilian life whatsoever."

"You will not be able to find any help, and if you walk into the jungle in this state, you will only become food for the awakened beasts."

"That is, if you even survive the cut to your heart long enough to make it there."

"No matter how I see it, you’re a dead man breathing."

In that moment, she flapped her wings once, taking to the sky.

’He’s already dead.’

’He may have a final card that he planned to use to take me down with him.’

’That’s why he still keeps his smile.’

’But I don’t have to get myself in danger since he’ll be dying soon anyway.’

"I’ll report your death to the Higher Others."

She said before disappearing into the distance.

White watched her leave, and only after she fully disappeared, did he turn his back to leave the area, but he only took two steps before collapsing on his back on the third step.

"You’re going to die."

That voice echoed in his head once more, but there was no fear in White.

Taking a minute to clear his head, he called out in his thoughts.

’Hey system?’

[Yes.]

’Use a Level Up Card.’

[Level Up Card Remaining: 1]

[Congratulations, Host has used a Level Up Card.]

A smile spread on White’s face.

During his last level up, he had, of course, left alone 1 Level Up Card just in case he needed to regenerate, and now, it had come exactly when he needed it.

Immediately, his flesh and bones began to squirm.

The bones that stuck out of his skin began to snap back into shape, and those that were broken began to regenerate.

His hands, covered in cuts, also began to slowly come back into one another.

It took a long time for him to regenerate, but after 7 full minutes, there wasn’t even the slightest scar on White, just the blood.

He rose to his feet, his back making a satisfying cracking sound.

[Congratulations on levelling up to Level 17!]

[ 15 Attribute Points Obtained.]

A thought crossed his mind, and in the next moment, he called out.

’Activate system interface.’

Anytime he embarked on a cultivation path, the system alerted him of having completed a secret mission.

He had just embarked on a new cultivation path too, Otherworld Dream, does that mean...

[Congratulations on Completing a Secret Quest: Embark on Otherworld Cultivation.]

[Rewards:

It said, and right after,

[Does Host wish to Level Up?]

’Yes.’

He replied.

The sight of that made White’s eyes gleam.

’My attribute points increased from 15 to 20.’

[Level Up Cards: 5]

[Does Host wish to use Level Up Card?]

It asked him, and White replied in his thoughts.

’Use 4.’

Once more, he chose to leave one, just in case a situation like the one he had just gone through arises in the future.

[STATS]

[Strength: 205]

[Agility: 215]

[Spirit: 156]

[Combat Power: 446]

[Attribute Points: 145]

’Add 35 points to Strength, 25 points to Agility, and 84 points to Spirit.’

White had his reason for adding so many points to Spirit.

Normally, this would have been a perfect chance for him to drive his Strength and Agility to 250, but he was also aware that the voice in his head that had told him to run was the voice of that Otherworlder.

The system had also confirmed that he had embarked on the path of Otherworld cultivation, meaning one thing.

The Otherworlder had fused with his soul.

And White knew that was no ordinary Otherworlder.

If it was right, that one had fused with thousands before him and all of them had died with their souls corrupted.

Spirit was the closest thing to the soul amongst his stats.

The last thing he wanted right now was to have it lagging behind his basic stats.

That might just make him go insane before he was able to even take his Strength and Agility to their full potential.

From now on, whilst he cultivated Otherworld Dream, his Spirit takes first priority.

[Congratulations, all stats inputted.]
