Chapter 93: His Otherworlder (II)

What heinous crimes had this being committed to make sealing itself away seem like the better choice?

Still, White recognized there was a lot he didn’t know about the fusion.

Since this one claimed to have fused with many, far more than he ever had at least, this was his best chance to learn from someone with real experience.

"If you don’t wish to fuse with me, that’s fine. But I have some questions I would like answered."

He said, though silence followed.

"In a fusion between an Otherworldler and a hum—...a Source Soul,"

He corrected himself and continued.

"The Source Soul’s advantages are pretty clear. He or she gains strength that originally belongs to the Otherworlder."

"What the Otherworlder seems to receive in return is a share of the Source Soul, but... I can’t see how that helps the Otherworlder at all."

"If a Source Soul gains strength, then... what does the Otherworlder gain from the fusion?"

Silence lingered for a while before the ringing voice came again.

"For one whose soul was brought to such a far edge of the Otherworld... your lack of basic Otherworld Dream knowledge is quite an anomaly."

It replied.

"Tell me about your world."

"I won’t. You might be a danger to it," White replied.

Earth was already embroiled in war with the Supernaturals.

The last thing he wanted was to drag another unknown being into it.

"Didn’t you come here for fusion? It’s only a matter of time before I learn all about your world."

It responded.

"If we fuse, then you’ll become my responsibility. Until then, I won’t allow a risk to my world."

"You care very much about your world."

The voice observed.

"I do."

White answered.

"And how about you?"

He asked after.

"I destroyed mine."

It replied.

"Wow... that’s some serious hate."

White muttered under his breath.

Imagine a human destroying Earth. That was insanity.

"Is that why you’re locked away here, then?"

He asked but received only silence.

"Whoever locked you away here must be an idiot."

White completed.

"And why is that?"

"Isn’t it obvious? You have enough power to destroy a world, yet all they did was seal you away for it?"

"What would you have done?"

It asked him.

"Simple. Use you."

White replied.

"If you had the power to destroy a world, then you obviously also have the power to save one on the verge of destruction."

"...Is that the state of your world?"

It asked.

White paused.

"I won’t say anything about my world to you."

"You already are."

It replied.

"You didn’t answer my question."

White pressed.

A low humming echoed before the answer came.

"What an Otherworlder seeks to gain depends on the Otherworlder itself."

"Most are... simple. They seek familiarity."

"After all, no two Otherworlders are ever the same, not even remotely close."

"To suddenly find a soul that bears similarity to them is something worth exchanging some of their power for."

It explained.

White understood that, but something stood out in the being’s explanation.

"Most?"

He asked.

"There are exceptions. Among them are the Violent Otherworlders, dominating their regions and reigning over them."

"They crave more chaos, and since space is limited in the Otherworld, they cannot freely fight other Otherworlders, placing a lock on their ability to do what they seek the most."

"So, when a Source Soul appears, they accept the fusion...but for one purpose."

It spoke.

White’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he completed.

"To spread more chaos."

"For those types of fusions, it is always a war between the Source Soul and the Otherworlder."

"A war for control of the body."

"And most times... the Otherworlders win, using the Source Soul’s lack of knowledge against them."

It explained.

All of this only made White’s heart sink further.

There was truth in its words.

The manual had mentioned that some Otherworlders were peaceful, others violent... and lastly, the fractured ones.

The fact that an Otherworlder could take full control of a human body was beyond worrying, and that further meant one thing.

’Just how many Otherworlders are out there, having fully devoured their human’s soul... and now walking the Earth, spreading chaos?’

’Is Earth’s only enemy really just the Supernaturals?’

Still, there was more to learn.

He pushed the thought aside and formed his next question.

"Is that all an Otherworlder seeks to gain? Familiarity... or chaos?"

He asked.

"Look at me..."

The figure responded.

"Do I look like I want familiarity with a source soul or desperate to cause some more chaos?"

It asked.

"No... You look like you simply wish to be left alone."

White answered.

"You have good eyes."

It replied.

"Tell me... how does one recognize those whose Source Soul has been corrupted, and an Otherworlder has gained full control?"

White asked.

If such a threat existed, then the next step was learning how to detect it.

"It’s difficult."

The being replied.

"An Otherworlder fusion is essentially a merging of souls."

"They learn everything about the soul, making it so that when they take full control of the body, even the closest relatives of the Source Soul would have no idea the body has been taken over."

"There is only one way to recognize a corrupted soul instantly."

White’s attention sharpened, but silence was all he found even after 7 seconds.

"What is that way? Tell me."

"I’ll tell you... after you tell me about your world."

It replied.

White paused.

"Why bother with that if you’re going to be trapped here for eternity, anyway?"

"I simply want something in exchange for my knowledge."

It answered.

That left White in a tight position.

He absolutely didn’t want to reveal anything... but eventually, he gave in just slightly.

"It’s a war-torn world." He replied curtly but the being pressed on.

"Who are your enemies? Otherworlders?"

It asked.

"No. Supernaturals."

White replied, and in that moment, the chaos began.

CLAAANK!

CLAAANK!

CLAAANK!

The chains around him suddenly began to rattle violently, sending out a powerful rhythm that made White’s soul wane from the repeated waves of aura from the chains.

A chilling aura of bloodlust followed, as a crimson undulation rippled through the depths of the void.

"Repeat those words..."
