Chapter 58: Inside The Dungeon
Pulling the hoodie over his head, Desther secured his face as he ran toward the swirling dungeon gate.
"Look who’s that?"
"Hey stop! Don’t risk your life!"
The people who saw him imdiately tried to stop him.
There were certainly a lot of benefits inside a newly erged dungeon, but for the people around, the risk involved was just very great, considering that the dungeon was not properly tested, and there was no information on what kind of monsters and what kind of place was inside it.
Desther still did not stop even after hearing their screams, though.
"Damn it! I’ll go too." Tempted by the prospects of benefits for early cors, the others could not contain themselves and tried to mimic Desther as well.
In a newly erged dungeon, monsters would have a higher chance of dropping experience points.
Not only that, rare materials that would not spawn again would also be more abundant.
If a monster inside uses a weapon or any form of item, anyone who killed them would be able to get those items as well.
This benefit would not be present inside a regulated dungeon since newly spawned monsters would no longer carry such important items.
For example, the goblins that Desther and the others fought before were using wooden daggers and wooden spears as their weapons during their face-off.
However, if they were the first generation of goblins in that dungeon, the weapon they were using might even be made of iron or any other wood with better properties.
With Desther as the precedent, there was no way so people around would be able to contain their greed as well.
After all, for them, what Desther might get inside might beco theirs if they went in too.
Desther could not bla them either. Even he was entering the dungeon because of greed.
He let them be. He has a mission to finish as soon as possible and get that money that he deserves.
Inside his mind, that money was already as good as his.
The mont he stepped into the swirling dungeon gate, Desther imdiately felt his mind go blank.
When he ca to it, his view had already changed.
As of this mont, he was in a dim and humid environnt.
Looking around, Desther saw towering trees and lush vegetation.
Below, he could see the water rising on the tree roots. The soil was muddy and full of green algae.
’A swamp forest?’
That thought crossed his mind the mont he landed.
’These roots are massive...’
Upon a closer look, Desther also realized that he had actually landed on one of the tree’s massive roots.
The roots were indeed massive.
The root he landed onto, for example, was as thick as a sedan car.
Desther did not move around imdiately.
The problem with entering an unfamiliar environnt was the fact that everything around you could be a danger in disguise of being harmless.
For example, the trees could be monsters, and the roots he was standing on could be their tentacles.
Inside a dungeon, monsters were not the only enemy that an Awakened Professional must fight.
If not careful enough, the area would beco a nightmare for them too.
The muddy soil below was surely not a friendly option to play with as well.
As much as possible, Desther reminded himself not to step into them, lest they contained sothing dangerous.
After he was done assessing the current place, Desther finally had the ti to move around.
’Now, what kind of monster would this dungeon spawn?’
There were certainly a lot of monsters that could live in a swamp forest environnt like this.
Staying low-key, Desther moved from one root to another as he tried to search for any monster he could kill.
After a minute or two of searching, Desther finally saw what kind of monster this dungeon has.
’A frog?’
The monster certainly looked like a frog, but bigger.
It has huge bulgy eyes with a dark blue, slimy body. Looking closely, Desther noticed its webbed feet from all four of its feet. There was a small tail at the end of its back that looked like a fish’s fin.
As of this mont, this frog-like creature used its four legs to stick beside the massive root of the tree.
The creature still had its eyes closed as if it were sleeping.
Desther did not attack rashly either.
He observed and studied the creature carefully, trying to discern what kind of movent it would make and what kind of attack it would use on him.
Inside his head, multiple scenarios played like a video as Desther carefully studied his upcoming opponent.
Even with the existence of the internet, this was still the first ti he had seen such a creature. This might be a new creature not yet recorded by the governnt.
Its attack pattern was unknown, and what kind of capabilities it had was also unknown.
No matter how strong he was right now, Desther knew for himself that it was better to be too prepared than to be not prepared enough.
Aside from that, Desther also made sure to check the surroundings, just in case there were more of such creatures hiding around.
He was afraid that when the fight started, a dozen or so would suddenly erge and gang up on him.
Fortunately, this creature seed to be a lone type and was only with itself.
After a minute or two of observing, Desther was finally satisfied with his assessnt.
Although not a guarantee, he had at least prepared ntally for what kind of attack he might face.
Without hesitation, Desther used Theft Mark and Attribute Theft toward the frog-like creature.
[ Target Marked ]
[ Theft Mark: Attribute Theft ]
[ Intelligence Attribute:
18 (30 Mins) ]
[ If Marked Target is eliminated: Free Attribute:
9 (Permanent) ]
[Theft Mark: 4/5]
The mont he saw the details, Desther could not help but be surprised a little.
If half of its highest attribute was 18, then it could only an that its highest attribute was 36.
In a side-by-side comparison with their strongest attribute, this frog was actually as strong as the dungeon boss he fought with Lexie before.
As if sensing so movents, the frog-like creature suddenly snapped its eyes open.
Its green pupils contracted into a slit before its head turned slightly toward Desther’s location.
