Chapter 44: Epic Redemption

"Exactly!" Victor smiled and gave him a look of approval.

"Hey, you’re actually smart. I kind of wonder why you always score average in all of our exams."

"I’m not exactly the nerdy type," Desther answered casually.

"Anyway, regarding your proposal. Let’s do it that way. I’m not the type to willingly step into trouble either," he continued.

He then turned around without waiting for Victor’s reply.

"Just a reminder, though. You need to put a leash on your dogs lest they suddenly bite soone without warning!" he remarked while continuing to walk forward casually.

"YOU FU-"

Victor raised his hands once more to pacify his friend’s anger.

Staring at Desther’s figure, Victor could only shake his head before turning his head toward a particular direction.

’Did Desther sense that a teacher was observing earlier?’ He thought to himself as he turned and walked toward the opposite direction.

"But Victor... Are we really gonna let him be just like that?" One of them asked after seeing that Victor really intended to let Desther go.

"Right. Victor. I know a good spot where we can beat him. We can’t just back down after what he did to Kevin, can we?"

Hearing that, Victor could only sigh.

"Sigh! You guys are really not perceptive, aren’t you?"

"Rember this. None of you lay a hand on Desther. Not only would it not help and only escalate the situation even further, there’s a high chance that you guys won’t stand a chance against him either."

The others were confused upon hearing his words.

"Huh? What do you an? There are a lot of us. And besides, he only has a D-Grade Talent, there’s no way he could defeat all of us, right guys?" he said while looking at the others.

They also nodded their heads to each other. Aside from John and the others who saw Desther fight head-on, none of them believed that Victor was right.

In fact, even John and the other four were not entirely convinced that Desther would be able to beat them if they ganged up on him.

"As I said, you guys aren’t very perceptive. We had already surrounded him earlier, but he was still very calm. You must have also figured out that while we were talking, Desther never dropped his guard and was ready to retaliate at any given ti."

"Just a bonus, Desther is actually always like this. You can try to observe him in the future, and you’ll know that I am right," Victor added.

"Anyway. I forbid any of you from attacking Desther. Anyone who violates this will be dealt accordingly. And I an it."

Hearing the resolute tone of his voice, they could only grit their teeth and hold their anger in as they followed behind Victor.

"Right, Victor, you ntioned sothing about Desther before. Can you tell

more about it?" John moved closer to Victor and asked.

Before, he actually felt skeptical about it. However, witnessing Desther’s capability and courage firsthand, John thought that there might really be so truth behind Victor’s word.

"About Desther? What about Desther?" Adrian overheard their conversation and asked curiously.

John looked at Victor, and after getting his nod of approval, he decided to tell Adrian about what Victor told him before.

"You know that Victor’s father is a big shot in the military, right? And such big shot usually have so insider information not generally released to the public?"

Adrian nodded his head. Everyone was aware of it.

"Do you rember that rumor three years ago regarding a boy the sa age as us getting rescued alone in a city full of monsters? Before that news, it was also generally believed that the city was already a living hell on earth."

Adrian thought for a bit before nodding his head.

"Yes. I heard of it in the news before."

How could he not rember it? After all, it was such a terrifying and mindboggling event. The face of that rescued boy was never revealed, though. It was just announced that he was sent to so shelter and was recovering peacefully while living a normal life.

"Well, according to Victor’s father, that news was actually not entirely true."

"The boy was actually not rescued but just got picked up. In that city, there were indeed monsters, but most of them were already dead by the ti the rescuers arrived at the scene."

"At first, the officials believed that the monsters were killed by another powerful monster nearby. However, when they examined the monster corpses closely, they realized that most of them died of bullet and stabbing wounds."

"And because of that, the officials believed that it was the boy who killed all of those monsters," John stated.

"How is that even possible?"

Adrian thought that it was ridiculous and mind boggling. Just the thought of the scene sent shivers down his spine. No matter what kind of ridiculous idea he thought of, he just could not picture how a boy that age could even manage to kill even a single monster.

"After verifying his age, though, the officials imdiately rejected that ridiculous idea."

"After all, the corpses of the monsters present in that city could simply not be killed by an ordinary human kid with no superpowers."

"Right," Adrian agreed on that point.

If that boy was indeed the sa age as theirs, then at that ti, he would only be around 13 or 14 years old.

It was a well-known fact that at such an age, humans could not awaken yet even if they were exposed to a mana surge.

At this ti, Victor decided to chi in.

"The officials indeed thought that it was ridiculous. That is the reason why that boy was left alone after investigations did not bear fruit as well."

"My father, though, still firmly believed that one way or another, that boy was sohow responsible for the deaths of those monsters, no matter how ridiculous the idea is."

Adrian straightened his thoughts and finally asked sothing he was confused about.

"Regarding this news from a few years ago. Are you implying that the boy back then is actually Desther?"

John and Victor nodded their heads.

"We are still not entirely sure. But I am at least forty percent certain about it. I will ask my father regarding it once more. I’ll see if I can obtain so photos of the boy back then," Victor stated.

Victor actually did not want to get to the bottom of this before, as he believed that it was just a rumor. When he connected so dots and thought Desther was that sa boy, he actually did not think too much about it.

However, after hearing John recount his fight with Desther earlier, Victor wanted to see and learn so truth regarding Desther, or particularly that rescued boy.

Once he returns ho, he plans on asking his father regarding that situation back then.

He wanted to know if Desther was indeed that sa person, and if so, he wanted to know if he was indeed the one who killed those monsters.

"Right, Victor. You ntioned before that the incident was labeled as classified and it was designated with a na. What was it again?"

"Oh that? Hmmm..."

"If I’m not wrong, then that classified file should now be labeled as,"

"Epic Redemption!"
