Syril suddenly froze on his seat, staring blankly into space.

He could have sworn that if Raja was physical, he would stare dead into his eyes as if he just cursed him.

Was he stupid not to have pressed the voice for answers from the beginning? Was he blinded by the desperation to possess an ability that he failed to rationalize the possibility of being roped into so kind of big deal?

Maybe the system will slowly corrupt him, turn him into a powerful monster?

Maybe the system is so kind of otherworldly technology that plans to use him to take over this world?

A system made to enslave won?

The possibilities were endless.

’A purpose,’ Two simple words, but powerful, with limitless implications.

What could that an? The system chose him?

He thought he was lucky to find a book in a trash and was granted a powerful ability. But now, the implication of ’a purpose’ could an serving an absurdly powerful entity.

He sat frozen like that, totally rigid, waiting for the ticking ti-bomb, the words that would probably shatter his world.

Raja sighed heavily, almost laughing after. "Will you relax?! How the fuck is your mind pondering those shitty stuffs? If truly the system wants to do all of those shitty stuff, don’t ya think it can do it all by itself, or even choose soone already powerful to amplify its great power? And if the system is truly interested in you for those crazy reasons you thought, wouldn’t it just give you all of its power at once? What the fuck is wrong with you, boy?!"

Syril sat and reflected again, then erupted into a humorless, dry laughter. Raja was right in all senses. What was the reason for his insecurities then?

As if on cue, Raja answered. "Boy, those bullies really destroyed you. I won’t bla you if you think everyone plans to use you."

"But..." Raja halted for his theatrical effect again. "Your thought patterns must change. You’re not a prey, and you’re not a predator either. You’re greater than both, and the reason the system chose you is exactly because of that. Nurous people had picked that book—in secluded parts of libraries, in excavations, passed down in so generations, yet, no one had unlocked the book."

"They were all unworthy..."

"Syril, you have sothing special. You are special. Your qualities, your characters, your values... They make you different, they make you an exceptional match for the system. The system chose you because it saw everything you’ve been through. It saw who you are. It saw that you’re the perfect match for its purpose..."

"It saw that you can restore balance in this world. It saw that your potentials are great, probably unmatched by anyone in this world. The system is all about that, it’s not a guide to build harems. It’s not a manual for seducing girls and giving insane powers..."

"The system is all about restoring balance in a corrupt world, all about fixing the errors that can destroy the universe. There’ll co a ti that you will understand these things better. You were chosen for sothing great. That, I know. For now, we need to focus on the present..."

"You need to grow!"

How many bombshells now? Syril had lost count. The revelations from Raja kept shocking him in ways he hadn’t thought they could.

This latest one contained much info that crumbled his wall of doubts and skepticism, details that made him understand more and value the system.

Maybe there was no way to prove all Raja said, but all he said was completely rational. It seed true, too.

Now, he sat in an awestricken manner, still frozen, dumbfounded.

"Well, look at you. You were the one looking for answers, and now you look like a ss, like soone who just saw a ghost."

"I-I... I... It’s..." Syril stuttered, unable to form words.

"I understand. Next ti, be careful of what you wish for..." Raja laughed, imitating the young lad in a bid to mock him. "We’ve moved from shocking secrets. Let’s talk more about your ability and skills."

Syril couldn’t even object at this point, and he had realized that Raja was right when he said his mind was frail to comprehend the whole of the system’s dynamics at once.

There was no need to rush. One step at a ti.

"I’m all ears," he found his voice.

"Good. We’ve cleared the difference between buffs, abilities, and skills, right?"

"Yes."

"Now, another juice you don’t know is that your skills can be upgraded. In two ways actually; with stat points and the Evolution Buff."

"When you get SP from missions, you can assign them to any stat of your choice, leveling up the stat to unlock more features. The other way is through the Evolution buff. Since you’ve unlocked the buff, continual usage of a skill allows you to upgrade the skill. The skills upgrade by default once they attain the required threshold... You’ll understand these better when you finish the present mission."

"That’s... cool. For every skill I upgrade, I get more features? More features equals more power?" Syril asked.

"Very correct. You’re getting a hang of it." Raja responded in a heartbeat.

"You also ntioned sothing about the Quest Points (QP). I can also get skills with them in the store, but currently I don’t have any until..."

"You finish the current mission," Raja completed.

It beca clear to Syril that the current mission was salient to complete. It wasn’t just an ordinary mission... The mission was a guaranteed leap of power.

And putting his upcoming relocation in consideration, he needed every power he could accumulate before venturing, because Greenville wouldn’t be just a college, it would be a battlefield. A field to upgrade his status, to beco notable. To prove that he isn’t useless as everyone had thought.

"Sherry..." Syril began soliloquizing.

He summoned a beetle, his tiny chanical ’assistance’ insect.

The beetle materialized from thin air with a common flash of blue light, its luminous antennae pulsing with a soft, blue glow, waiting for command.

Syril gave one, simple command; go to Sherry’s store and report everything you see.

It wasn’t the first ti he had done this. Matter-of-factly, he had repeatedly done this since the day he ca from Amanda’s, silently watching Sherry attend to custors or sitting alone by her counter.

Again, he did it to watch his next target, the benefactor he was ant to reward.

The chabeetle crept through crevices, climbed walls, through alleys, through houses, and finally, it reached Sherry’s Convenience.

It soon found its way in the store, dropping through a sizable hole in the ceiling to the cold store’s floor.

However, the beetle didn’t find the usual scene of Sherry attending to custors or resting her chin on her counter.

What it saw was horror that needed imdiate attention.

The beetle reported to its master instantly, calling its owner attention to the terror it was witnessing.

Syril’s limbus (iris rim) lit subtly with a blue coloration as the chabeetle shared its view with his owner, transmitting the ssage clearly.

The ssage was passed across. Syril saw what was happening.

He didn’t waste any ti. He didn’t say any words.

He rushed out of his apartnt imdiately...
