Remddi’s Point Of View

"Mom? Who is that?" I asked, nervously.

She had just walked into our room, however, she wasn’t alone. I had never seen this man before, and he smiled like an absolute villain.

"Sweetheart, this man is the proprietor of this facility. He’s co to visit you, so be polite and greet him properly." She replied, beckoning over.

I knew that by the way she was speaking, I couldn’t treat him like the bastard scientists that ordered us around. But even without her noticeable fear and timidity, the man’s aura was oppressive as hell.

I rose to my feet, and approached him and my mother. The closer I got to the man, the more my hackles began to rise and my skin crawled. Everything about this man felt, distorted.

"Hello, Remddi. My na is Rahzden." He said with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

"Hello, Sir. It’s a pleasure to et you." I replied, nervously.

"Your mother has told a lot about you. Though I must admit, the doctors here are not your biggest fans." He chuckled.

"I apologize, Master. He isn’t quite used to the amount of tests they conduct on him so frequently. I’ll do my best to discipline him better going forward..." Mother said, going to her knees at once.

"It’s fine. Don’t trouble yourself. I’ve actually co here to discuss your next mission." He said strolling into our room, and sitting on the bed.

Due to the nature of this facility, it wasn’t lost on that my mother and the other won here were forced to do unsavory things to survive. The doctors never hid their perverse gazes, or their depraved intentions. It was like they enjoyed making all of us uncomfortable.

Looking at the sadistic grin on this man’s face as he absent-mindedly caressed the bed, made realize that he was probably the worst one of all. I wanted to put as much distance between and this man, as I possibly could.

"Remddi, could you co here for a mont?" Rahzden asked, without glancing in my direction.

Mother rose to her feet completely, and then nudged my shoulders in his direction. My mind knew that I didn’t have a choice, but my body was not so forthcoming.

"Remmy... If you don’t listen to this man, he will sell you to the highest bidder. Your new owner will not wait for you to co of age..." Mother whispered quietly, her voice trembling.

My mother was beautiful and extrely smart, she doted on whenever she could. However, I knew that she’d sacrifice in a heartbeat, if it ant she could be free from this place.

When I didn’t verbally respond and made no move to approach him, Rahzden finally glanced in my direction. The fierce glint in his eyes made my body move on its own, as if by compulsion.

"S-Sorry..." I murmured, once I reached him.

"I understand your nervousness, but I must warn you that I’m not a patient man. Understand?" He asked, grabbing my upper arm forcefully.

"Ngh... Yes. I understand..." I replied, wincing at the pain.

"Good. Now, Delilah... Your next mission is one of infiltration. I need you to be my eyes and ears in enemy territory. Do you think you can pull it off?" Rahzden asked, placing on the bed beside him.

"I understand what you’re asking to do... However, I’m not sure about the job I need to impersonate to achieve it...?" Mother said, pondering her new orders.

"Sothing simple really. A maid, a nurse, a pet, a hired gun, or a concerned citizen. I’ll let you choose the thod. I only ask that you report back to on a daily basis. Gather intel about the property, the occupants, and their movents. Easy, right?"

"Understood.... But, Sir?" Mother asked, nervously.

"Yes? What is it?"

"Who will look after Remmy? Should I take him along for a better story?"

Mother’s eyes seed a bit panicked, as she looked between and Rahzden. I barely noticed, because Rahzden hadn’t stopped touching since he sat down.

"Hmm? That’s not a bad idea... However, I think he should stay here with . He’ll entertain in your absence, and ensure that you carry out your mission successfully. After all, I trust you understand what will happen if you fail, correct?"

Rahzden wrapped a hand around my throat, and I froze imdiately. There was no way that I’d agree to stay here with this man alone. He never even said how long she’d be gone.

"Uhm... Yes, I understand... But..." Mother stamred, not eting my eyes anymore.

"Is there a problem?" Rahzden asked, tightening his grip.

"You’re a very busy man, no? I could never ask you to do such a thing..." She replied, hesitantly.

"He’s not just any kid though. It won’t be a problem." Rahzden chuckled darkly.

"I understand, Sir..." Mother acquiesced.

I couldn’t hide my shock. She gave up so easily that I couldn’t even begin to formulate my own objections.

"How long will the covert operation take?" Mother asked, moving the conversation along.

"Hmm... That’s a good question. I have no doubt that Chazn will make his move soon. It’ll be in your best interest to not be around when that happens... So, maybe two weeks? The information you provide will dictate how long your mission will take."

"Where am I going for this mission?"

"You will be going to StohneGarrdin. You will need to find a way to sneak into Mafia King Ferdinand’s ranks, and gain the trust of his employees. They will most likely find it hard to trust you, and assu that you work for the governnt. You will need a solid background and cover story, to convince them."

Mother was becoming increasingly pale. I couldn’t bla her, everything about this ’mission’ sounded like a set up. He didn’t say it outright, but the chances of her surviving this mission were extrely low.

The way he made her handle all of the groundwork, the details of the plan, and the cover story she would need, was unnerving. It was blatantly obvious that he would cut ties with her, the mont she failed and beca a liability.

"You will depart for StohneGarrdin tomorrow afternoon. Spend tonight preparing for your mission. For the sake of your future, please do your best." He winked, before standing up and heading for the door.

I gnashed my teeth together tightly, doing my best not to say the words building up behind them.

"Oh, and Remddi... I expect you in my office by lunchti tomorrow. Pray you don’t disappoint ." He chuckled darkly, as he made his exit.

Once the door closed, mother collapsed to her knees, her unshed tears now falling without restraint.

"I’m so sorry, Remmy... I have no way to help you. I’m not even confident that I can pull this off... I’ll probably never get to see you again, and that man will never let you know peace..." Mother said, sobbing uncontrollably.

I knelt down in front of her, unsure of what I could even do or say. I was just a troublemaker to her. She always made a point to drill that fact into , whenever she had to scold for misbehaving.

Watching her crumble to pieces in front of now, was heartbreaking beyond words. I had nothing to say that would comfort her, and I had no intention of entertaining that scumbag.

"Remmy, I want you to listen to carefully. Please... I know I haven’t been the most reliable mother to you... Hell, I can’t even say I’ve been a Mother at all to you, but..."

She looked up at , her eyes shining with a furious resolve. Gone were the tears that had been falling, her hazel eyes were glowing brightly, and her trembling had ceased completely.

I swallowed dryly, afraid of what she was going to say next.

"I will not die, I will not be used as a pawn in his twisted plot for revenge, and I will not allow you to be used as a tool for his sick depravity. I want you to go all out. Use that sharp-witted brain of yours to get what you want. I’ve never told you this before, but within your body is a geno that is widely coveted by the leaders of this world."

"What are you saying, mother?"

"They cannot kill you. With out of the picture, they cannot use against you either. Use that knowledge to protect yourself. This may not be the life that we would ever choose for ourselves, but this will be the catalyst we’ll use to propel ourselves to a better future."

I didn’t know how to respond to her. She didn’t sound like she would go down without a fight, but she didn’t sound like she’d co back to save either...

’I’ll have to fight alone...?’
