Delcain’s Point Of View

I made my way back to my room, hoping to get so rest before our family dinner. Today had been a serious ntal drain, and I was both physically and ntally burned-out.

As I opened my door and walked inside, I felt a strong presence at my back. Without turning around, I let out a deep sigh.

’I seriously don’t have the energy for this right now...’

"Did you need sothing?" I asked, walking to my bed and plopping down face first onto it.

"You didn’t even flinch. How did you know it was ?" A smooth, rich, and honeyed voice asked. The sound resonated inside my skull.

’Because your presence is unmistakable!’

"There’s no one else it could’ve been. If Kaleb was still here, I might have second guessed myself. But he’s not, and you’re too persistent..." I grumbled.

"Is it wrong for to worry about you? I don’t think it is... I just wanted to check on you, and make sure that you were feeling okay..." Belladohnnis said with a sigh.

He had been persistent in his pursuit to be near , over the last 4 years. I didn’t understand why, however. It started with a random conversation about everything and nothing. Then it snowballed down the mountain, gaining more montum with each passing month.

"I’m fine, Dohnnis. Seriously... It’s not like I have the power to change anything. No matter what happens, I won’t be able to do anything, except worry. It’s kind of nostalgic, really. I feel more comfortable now, knowing that there’s an actual enemy, than I ever did during the past 6 presumably, peaceful years. I’d rather not live a life rife with assumptions, and speculations." I chuckled, despite the seriousness of the situation.

It was true however. We were no strangers to looking over our shoulders, and keeping our heads down. I had spent the last 6 years wracked with anxiety. I was constantly on edge, perturbed about whether or not another group of assholes would attack us again.

It didn’t help that after Arellany’s birth, it felt like the entire house had let its guard down. I tried to let it go as a welcod distraction, but that was no longer an option.

Knowing that there was an actual threat looming in the distance, made feel much more at ease in the grand sche of things.

"You are not powerless in the slightest. Also, misfortune befalls us all.. How you deal with the situation and– how you carry yourself through those tribulations– is what makes you, you. It will make you a much stronger and gentler, person as a result. You just need to learn that you have a great deal of people who care about you. Your family would never abandon anyone." He replied, taking a seat beside my head.

"No, sure. Make yourself at ho..." I said, exasperated.

"You’re so prickly when you don’t need to use my body, huh? Why is that? Just be as sweet to now, as you were then. It’s not that hard, is it?" He teased.

I however, didn’t appreciate his shaless reminder... He had a bad habit of reminiscing about unnecessary things.

"It happened once, and I was drunk as hell! I told you to stop bringing it up!" I said, finally looking at him with a glare.

"It’s my fondest mory of you, though. You were so adorable, and sad, and lonely. I ant it back then, and I an it right now... I will be here for you whenever you need to be, and I’ll always watch over you. You’re worth the wait." He chuckled, before kissing the top of my head.

I found it aggravating that I couldn’t just outright say I didn’t need him for anything. Truth be told, he had slowly grown on over the years. It was comfortable knowing that he was always there, lurking behind a corner.

But that didn’t an he needed to know that I was getting used to him, though.

"Doesn’t that make you a stalker then?" I asked pointedly.

I couldn’t help but poke the sleeping bear. I knew that no matter what I said to him, he’d never give up. He had made that fact quite clear already.

"Oho? A Stalker you say? But if that is the case, then does that an you’re an exhibitionist?" He teased.

I buried my face into my pillow, my cheeks were burning up.

’This guy is too damn much!’

"If so, then that ans you’re into voyeurism? Ugh... What a pervert..." I said dryly.

"Well... Maybe... But only for you." He replied, laughing uproariously.

"Ugh! Get out, you damn weirdo! Go be a peeping Tom sowhere else!" I yelled, exasperated.

"Don’t be like that. I’m only concerned about your well-being. It’s not like I had ulterior motives when I ca here." He replied standing up, when I aid a pillow at him.

I couldn’t deny that he had managed to calm my nerves a bit, but if the cost was going to be my embarrassnt, I’d rather just be nervous.

"Alright, I see that you’re feeling better now. I’ll leave you alone. See you at dinner." He chuckled softly, and then quietly left the room.

Once I heard the door shut firmly, I let out a deep shaky breath. It felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. In the beginning, I couldn’t handle being around him because he was an Alpha, and because he was undeniably a man.

His presence was extrely profound, and after about two months of dealing with him lurking around in the shadows, I was now keenly aware of him and his presence.

Soti around two years ago, even his pheromones had beco sothing of a calming aspect in my life. It was akin to a crisp winter morning in a pine forest.

{"Umm?... Are you drunk, Delcain?" A deep voice echoed through my head.

"Hmm... Could be... Not sure I know... from experience, though..." I grumbled nauseously.

"Yeah... He’s had a bit too much. I’m partially to bla though, so I can’t complain too much..." Rohan said, clearly inebriated as well.

"Tristan had a son, Kaleb moved out, and the girls will be moving into that attached house in two months.... It’s all just so.... Lonely..." I sighed, wearily.

"Dohnnis... Be a pal, and take Delcain up to his room... I’m too drunk to help him... I’m gonna take a na–"

"Seriously, Rohan? You should take responsibility! Don’t just fall asleep here! Ugh!" Belladohnnis griped.}

I shook my head to dislodge the mory. Belladohnnis had grumbled and complained, the entire ti he carried off to my room. He had a hard ti with it all, due to the fact that I had been too drunk to explain where my room even was.

After that day, Belladohnnis had repeatedly gone out of his way, for my sake. I could barely rember what I said or did, that night. Unfortunately for , Belladohnnis had committed our entire exchange to his damn mory, and never missed an opportunity to gleefully reminisce about it.

At first, it was hard for to trust the things that he said. He was too honest, so much so, that it felt insincere and forced.

’Because, if it feels too good to be true... It usually is...’

However, even after all this ti he remained the sa. Steadfast in his blatant honesty, and bull-headed stubbornness. Even after I told him I couldn’t trust n, and wanted nothing to do with them. He still stayed close by, and watched over from a distance.

In all my dealings with him, I learned one unwavering truth about him. I learned that, Belladohnnis never said what he didn’t an, and never agreed to do anything he wasn’t sure he could manage.

I let out a long weary sigh, as I tried to empty my mind. Soon enough, there ca a knock on my door.

"Hey, Del... Are you awake? We’re all heading down for dinner now. You’re coming too, right?" Tristan asked nervously.

"Yeah. I’ll be right there." I replied, rising from my bed.

’After all, only an idiot would waste this opportunity to gather important information about their own future...’
