Chapter 651: Chapter 30 Rebellion

“Ahchoo!”

Aske sneezed.

“Caught a cold?” Nora asked by his side.

“It’s probably a pollen allergy,” Aske said.

“My flowers haven’t even blood yet, where would the pollen co from?” Nora said sowhat speechlessly.

She continued watering the soil in the flowerbed, her movents graceful as if she were brewing tea. Aske sat nearby watching her.

Silently, Nora gazed at the flowerbed, and a golden pattern flashed through her pupils; soon after, sprouts broke through the soil at a speed visible to the naked eye.

At the tip of the sprouts, two leaves sprang forth, followed by a third and fourth, gradually evolving into slender stems, and finally, small flower buds bulged from the tips.

Then they blood spectacularly.

Aske watched in amazent from behind, and under the continued stimulation of Nora’s abilities, the flowers withered quickly, leaving only a dozen seeds behind.

“What is this?” the Squad Leader asked.

“In botany, this is called ‘selfing’,” Nora picked up the seeds one by one, “It’s a thod used to create homozygous genos.”

“At the mont, I haven’t mastered ‘Acquired Inheritance’; I can only make these plants self-pollinate through multiple generations, and then see if I can cultivate crops with purified specific traits.”

“Oh,” Aske didn’t say much. Even if he didn’t understand, he wouldn’t put on a face pretending to understand everything like Sigrdrifa.

Speaking of which, how was Sigrdrifa doing?

“dea and Miel’s second part of the plan, it’s set to start today, right?” Nora selected a seed, replanted it in the soil, and turned back, “Aske, I am glad you can accompany on Fire Island, but are you sure it’s okay not to go over there?”

“No worries, you have to give the young ones a chance,” Aske responded, “I believe they can handle it on their own.”

In the past, when he was in the team, he always used this reason to comfort the players who had just graduated from the training camp and were participating in their first official professional league.

Now it was the turn of the girls of The Azure Longsword.

——————————

Sicily’s second largest city, Catania.

Taking advantage of the Norman forces being drawn away at sea, the local guerrilla forces here sparked a long-planned rebellion, quickly defeating the Norman forces left in Catania within a few hours, and swiftly sent manifestos to the remaining Sicilian towns, calling for the Sicilian people to unite and overthrow the rule of the Otwell Family.

Rise up, enslaved people of Sicily! Break the shackles imposed by the Normans!

These highly provocative flyers and notices were quickly delivered to the Normans in the Court of Palermo.

“We must send troops to the eastern part of the island to quell the unrest as soon as possible, no ti to wait for William to return!” Robert said coldly in the family eting, “Otherwise, if this unrest continues, it will greatly destabilize the order and peace of other towns!”

As he said so, many Normans also echoed him. Clearly, they were quite self-aware of their status as “outsiders” of the Otwell Family.

As outsiders, the family’s past rule over Sicily was built on a strong foundation of power, violence, and slaughter, forcing the local people into submission under severe oppression and exploitation.

However, as soon as a spark of disturbance arose, showing these long-oppressed people a glimr of hope, they would not hesitate to rise up and attempt to bite back—the persistent bandits at the edge of Sicily’s towns and villages were evidence of this.

In such a hostile and unstable internal environnt, the Otwell Family could not afford to show any weakness, not even the slightest bit.

And whether the rebellion in the east could be quelled quickly would undoubtedly affect the outside world’s assessnt of the Otwell Family’s power and determine whether the subsequent situation would worsen or even spread across the entire island.

Of course, these were the demands of the Sicilian Lords. Anyone in Sicily who owned land or estates, driven by the instinct to protect their own property, strongly agreed with Robert’s proposal to suppress the bandits.

Another group, naly the Extraordinary Officer generals directly under William, had much simpler thoughts.

We only obey orders from Demigod William. As for you, Robert, you have no right to command us to dispatch troops, as that is a matter of jurisdiction.

Thus, the family council naturally split into two factions. The Lord faction advocated deploying troops imdiately, while the Officer faction wanted to hold back and report to Demigod William overseas.

The problem is that Norman ships did not have GPS devices. By the ti the ssenger’s small boat found the fleet in the vast ocean and then returned to the port with William’s orders, how much precious ti for combat would be wasted?

For a while, everyone argued furiously. Sitting in the main seat, Robert watched with an icy expression as these family mbers furiously yelled, insulted each other, and even rolled up their sleeves, ready to co to blows, as if watching a ridiculous clown show.

“… Ultimately, the interests of the Lords lie in comrce, land, and estates, so they need to suppress dostic rebellion quickly; whereas the Officers crave further advancent on the path of the Extraordinary, therefore their definite choice is to follow only William’s commands. Under these circumstances, their conflict is inherently irreconcilable.”

“Of course, if this arguing continues, it will inevitably favor the Officer faction, since their demand is ‘no action,’ and delaying is advantageous for them.”

The words of that Enchanting Demon once again flashed through his mory:

“Thus, if no decisive force intervenes in this intense debate, then after a period of tug-of-war, so frustrated Sicilian Lords will surely leave, return to their territories to start conscripting and arming troops, and even unite to quell the rebellion.”

“And this is contrary to our goal, as our basis for cooperation is to diminish the power of the ‘Officer Corps’ loyal to William.”

“Therefore, soone must co forward to steer the chaos of the eting back to order.”

At this thought, Demigod Robert’s icy gaze fell on the young man seated second to his right.

Roger.

William and Robert’s nephew, among the young Normans, he was the most intelligent and sharp-witted. There were even rumors that William had already designated Roger as the heir to lead the Otwell Family.

As demigods progress in their ranks, the erosion brought on by the Law leads to an increasing loss of sanity, and the illusions and hallucinations that erge also pose a growing threat. Thus, demigods will eventually choose a point in ti to withdraw from worldly affairs and focus on combating their own uncontrollable tendencies.

Considering that William himself had ascended to demigod status not long ago, this point was probably still 5-10 years away, so his training of Roger had already started. Many Extraordinary Officers had privately approached Roger, showing their favor, while the Lords were more cautious, hoping to thoroughly understand this young man’s temperant and abilities.

In turn, Roger naturally desired to establish enough prestige within the family swiftly—to cent his status as the heir. After all, Normans had no ceremony like “appointing an heir;” ultimately, who would inherit the family was up to William’s word alone.

Who could guarantee that when the ti ca, Demigod Sir would not suddenly change his mind?

Feeling Robert’s gaze on him, Roger just smiled and nodded but didn’t rush to express his opinion.

Cunning fox! Robert cursed silently, then asked:

“Roger, what is your opinion?”

Imdiately, the hall quieted down, and all eyes turned to Roger.

“I, of course, support quelling the disturbance swiftly.” With the attention successfully gained following Robert’s query, Roger then said smilingly, “If Demigod William were here, he would certainly not allow the rebellion in Catania to continue spreading.”
