Chapter 650: Chapter 29 Black Swan

William looked expressionlessly toward the distant Sigrdrifa.

Beside him, atop the frozen Norman corpses, the Bone Tooth Necklace emitted a strange radiance.

Evidently, the Navian Bone Tooth was very pleased with the surrounding scene of war—it was more satisfied than any other ti in years, and the reason was not hard to guess, just by seeing whose contributions in this war were most outstanding.

The current contentnt level of the Divine Artifact was sufficient for the Navian Bone Tooth to et its use requirents for the entire upcoming year, thus the Otwell Family need not worry about the Artifact’s own will, and could fully deploy its abilities.

However, William did not appear happy at all.

After all… why was it her who had gained the approval of the Navian Bone Tooth?

Why was it that mysterious young girl?

In another part of Normandy Palace, Robert, having sent dea away, also began sinking into an uneasy contemplative state.

To tell the truth, Robert had certainly researched the past great deeds of The Azure Longsword. Yet, a truth held universal in this world was:

You can never truly understand a person’s strength from paperwork unless you interact with her personally.

Her ticulous thinking, skilled rhetoric, and perfectly controlled expressions made Robert feel as if he were conversing with the Devil.

Of course, biologically speaking, a Purgatory Demon’s bloodline indeed belongs to the Devil Bloodline, but here Robert referred to the “Devil” in a religious sense.

That is, a Devil who forever knows your weaknesses, has a seductive tone to tempt you to jump into Hell, the Devil that mortals fear.

Robert’s title was “Cunning Fox,” describing his extrely whimsical, and unpredictable tactics based on the Madness Law—partly derived from his particularly agile mind.

Yet, while dealing with this younger, lower-ranked Enchanting Demon, Robert felt an inability to exert his strength—a sense of powerlessness he hadn’t experienced since becoming a Demigod.

Undoubtedly, the lady had mastered so Mind type Law, allowing her to hold almost a decisive advantage in verbal and strategic confrontations. Considering this, and recalling how Sigrdrifa ca here, Robert grew even more cautious and wary.

He would not naively think that Sigrdrifa’s choice to actively return to her family had nothing to do with The Azure Longsword. Indeed, if soone suddenly popped up and told him that his daughter was involved in a major conspiracy (and it is clear the Enchanting Demon was involved), Robert wouldn’t be surprised at all.

No, this matter must be dealt with. Especially unacceptable for Robert was the possibility that his daughter’s relationship with him might not be as close as her relationship with The Azure Longsword.

He must do sothing to change the current situation.

dea leisurely returned to the inn and just as she pushed open the door, she saw Miel sitting at the desk, who turned and asked indifferently:

“Did you et Sigrdrifa’s father?”

“Correct.” dea snapped her fingers and smiled, “And I made so precautionary arrangents.”

Miel didn’t ask what her so-called “backup plan” was, but seriously said,

“Your approach is too aggressive, dea. Recklessly contacting Robert will greatly increase the risk to our plan, and you haven’t discussed it with beforehand.”

“Eh, I thought I did discuss it with you?” dea sat down beside her, sowhat puzzled.

“No, you didn’t.” Miel responded calmly, “Do I need to pull up the ‘replay videos’ of all our conversations over the past week?”

dea looked at her for a mont, and the smile in her eyes gradually faded.

“Your imagination is too conservative, Miel.” She said sowhat boredly, “In your eyes, isn’t the past and the future just like an open mystery book with answers, a crossword puzzle, or a magic cube with a rotating guide?”

“Even if we choose a high-reward high-risk option, you can guide us to make a series of correct decisions by peeping into the future, thereby gradually leveling the corresponding high risk, so why not try to maximize the benefits?”

“dea, you don’t understand. My ability is not omniscient.” Miel showed a worried look, “I can only foresee the ‘Grey Rhinos’ from an infinite number of future lines, but I am unable to capture the lurking ‘Black Swans.’ Do you understand that?”

“Of course.” dea crossed her arms.

A grey rhino is a highly probable and severely damaging potential event; a black swan is an unpredictably rare event. For example, dying in a car accident after driving drunk is a “grey rhino,” while being killed by a teor smashing through the car window is a “black swan.”

Miel’s ability to peep into the future essentially involves reading most of the possible future line events. However, considering there are infinitely many possible future lines, Miel naturally cannot exhaustively observe every situation.

Among them could be rare black swan future lines, containing risks that Miel has never foreseen. Who knows?

“Are you telling not to be too risky?” dea scoffed coldly, “I didn’t realize when you beca such a conservative person. Who ca up with the bizarre plan for the Etna Volcano? Don’t tell that was a spur-of-the-mont idea by Theodora.”

“The Etna Volcano plan is beneficial and harmless to our team.” Miel frowned and said, “But prematurely contacting Robert will increase the risks that Sigrdrifa is about to face, and I have told you this in advance.”

“There’s no absolutely harmless plan, Miel.” dea spoke earnestly, “Being a rcenary is all about constantly dancing on probabilities and risks. Don’t forget what Sigrdrifa’s mission ritual is, ‘to kill the people she hates.'”

“Before that, she must first find ‘the people she hates,’ and this inherently involves risks that are strictly constrained by the ritual itself and cannot be avoided.”

“Unless you think collaborating with Theodora is better than forming an alliance with us. In that case, we could speak openly and part amicably, but please don’t use such foolish excuses to test my patience, can you?”

“I’m not testing your patience.” Miel sighed deeply, “I just…”

“Indecisive?” dea asked.

“You could say that.” Miel spoke softly, “I don’t want any of you to get hurt, no matter who it is in the team.”

dea silently watched her for a long ti, and her expression gradually softened. After a while, she resud her light laughter:

“Don’t worry, black swans won’t appear so easily, and besides, we still have the ultimate safety insurance.”

“Safety insurance?” Miel was startled, “Who?”

“Of course, it’s our most handso and beloved squad leader.” dea grinned.
