Chapter 14
Once we were confird to have chosen our respective partners, Cole activated his dinsion, instantly teleporting every single student inside.
It happened in a blink, just like last ti. The air shifted, and Lilian clutched tightly to my arm, afraid we’d lose eachother. I looked around once we were inside the dinsions.
We stood in the middle of a dense forest. The trees stretched high above, their branches so thick they almost blocked out the sunlight. The air was heavy, damp, and slled of earth and rotting leaves. I could hear the faint sound of running water in the distance.
A forest was chosen for this exam because it was easier to hide and more challenging to find your target.
"Can you let go now? You’re squeezing a little too hard." I said to Lilian, shaking her off my arm when I noticed she still wasn’t letting go.
"Ohh I’m sorry,I just..."
I didn’t wait for her to keep talking and moved away, already heading to the sound of water I could hear ahead, curious to see what i could find there. I’ve always wondered how realistic Cole could make his dinsions, it was ti to find out.
We hadn’t even made it far when I sensed an attack coming my way. The attacker was using stealth. His strike ca fast, a blur slicing through the air aid right for my head.
Without thinking, I tilted slightly to the left, the blade missing by inches. I caught a glimpse of the attacker as he materialized from the shadows, he’d cloaked his presence well, probably an assassin-type ability user. His movents were sharp, precise, but sloppy in the way he overextended his arm.
I grabbed his wrist mid-swing and twisted hard. He yelped, stumbling forward, and before he could react, I slamd my knee into his gut hard enough to make him cough up so blood.
"Pathetic," I muttered, tossing him to the ground like he weighed nothing.
"Lucian!" Lilian gasped, stepping back as the boy hit the dirt, coughing up saliva mixed with blood.
He scrambled up to his knees, glaring at with bloodshot eyes. "You... how did you even—? You’re supposed to be weak!"
I frowned. That phrase was getting old, and it was starting to piss off. "Supposed to, huh? You really shouldn’t believe everything people tell you. Now hand your keys so I don’t have to kill you to get them." i said with a blank expression, stretching my hand.
He was C-rank, too bad he was still at level six, otherwise he might have put up more of a fight with his stealth ability. I didn’t want to bother wasting a kill on a weakling like him.
His hands trembled as he reached into his pocket, pulling out his key. He probably thought he could bluff into hesitating.
In an instant, I closed the distance and snatched it from his palm. The glow faded from his hand as the ownership transferred to . He froze, disbelief written all over his face.
"You didn’t even last thirty seconds." I leaned in close enough for him to feel my breath on his ear. "You should’ve hidden. Instead, you ca after ."
The boy’s jaw clenched, but he didn’t try to fight back. He knew it would be suicide.
Lilian rushed up beside , wide-eyed. "You didn’t have to let him go. What if he tries to ambush us again?"
"If he’s dumb enough to try twice, he won’t leave alive." I tucked the key into my pocket.
Her lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn’t argue. Instead, she followed closely as we pushed deeper into the forest.
The further we went, the more alive the dinsion felt. I could hear distant screams, clashes of steel, bursts of energy shaking the air. Students were already tearing each other apart, desperate to secure their points before ti ran out.
Perfect. The chaos would only make it easier for to move undetected.
"Lucian..." Lilian whispered, gripping her dagger nervously as branches snapped nearby. "Do you think we’ll run into Dante?"
I stopped in my tracks, scanning the treeline. The sound was gone now, replaced by silence so thick it pressed against my ears. My lips curled into a small grin.
"I hope we do."
The silence broke in the next heartbeat, three shadows burst out of the undergrowth, surrounding us in an instant.
They seed to be brothers, they had sa haircut, sa brown hair color, although different aura. They circled us. I could tell they weren’t random weaklings, these guys had trained together.
One held dual short blades, twirling them with confidence and precision. Another raised his hands, faint sparks of lightning already crackling across his fingertips. The last carried a massive war hamr, resting it on his shoulder like it weighed nothing.
"Three against two," the one with the blades sneered. "Hand over your keys, and maybe we’ll let you crawl out of here alive."
"I know you, you’re Lucian right? You got a bit popular after your little scuffle with Dante at the training hall." The one with the hamr said.
"You might have learnt a skill or two, but you’re still no match for us. Hand over your keys and we would make your death an easy one." The one I suspected to be a lightning user said with a confident smirk.
So they planned to kill huh, interesting. I glanced at Lilian. She was tense, but her grip on the dagger was steady. Good. At least she wasn’t shaking in fear.
"We’re just two, and you guys are three. How do you plan on sharing the keys among yourselves once you have them?" I asked, placing my hands into my pockets casually, like I wasn’t bothered.
"You can’t fool us, we saw you take one from that stealth user. Now hand them over and don’t test us." The guy with the hamr barked.
I looked up at him, my expression cold, blank."Well, I don’t want to. Co and get it if you want them so badly."
