Chapter 56: Forgive
They had returned to the room after the party, and Valerie imdiately nursed Daniel, who had started to fuss, as if he had been eagerly awaiting his share of breast milk.
While nursing Daniel, Valerie occasionally glanced at Damian pacing back and forth on the terrace, talking to soone on the phone.
"Huh, what if he is going to order 1000 books, then give them to his family and friends, even his employees? I can’t imagine that. In the book, it’s only the beginning that resembles our story, and the rest is just about my hopes... I don’t want him or them to know. My self-esteem could plumt... And I’ll seem like a hypocrite!"
"Emhh..."
Valerie glanced at Daniel, who stopped sucking on her breast, then lay back with his eyes closed.
"Finally, he’s asleep, I should persuade Damian not to go through with that crazy idea," muttered Valerie as she got up from the bed, then placed two pillows on either side of Daniel.
She approached Damian, who had finished his phone call and was walking towards her.
"Is he asleep?" Damian asked, pocketing his phone.
"Yeah..." Valerie nodded awkwardly. "I think he’s tired and very sleepy..."
"That’s good..." Damian smiled, then walked towards the sofa.
Valerie glanced at him, hesitating to approach him.
’Oh, what is this? Why am I feeling nervous? I shouldn’t hesitate to say this... I should be able to!’ she convinced herself and approached Damian, who was eating cake on a white plate. The girl sat down imdiately, but once again her mouth remained silent, as if unable to speak.
"Eat this, I know you like chocolate cake," Damian said calmly. "Last year on your birthday, I always bought chocolate cake even though I didn’t et you... I ate it alone in my room," he continued.
Valerie imdiately furrowed her brow. "Really?"
Damian just raised his eyebrows.
"I’m like a crazy guy," he said.
Valerie swallowed her saliva, her face turning grim. "You shouldn’t have done that... You didn’t need to celebrate the birthday of soone who wasn’t by your side, soone who couldn’t stay with you... and hurt you, embarrass you..."
"What you did is based on my mistakes, so I should keep celebrating your birthday..." Damian sighed, then glanced at Daniel on the bed. "I never thought you struggled so hard to recover from the trauma caused by my actions... While taking care of him... Working... You’re very strong," he said again, looking back at Valerie.
"I’m not that strong I’m selfish," Valerie replied. "I realize that what I did with Samuel was a mistake..."
"It’s not a mistake. I know you can’t forget my betrayal... That’s why you hesitate to co back... Or maybe you even hated the presence of our baby... Maybe you hated having a baby with , while I hurt you..." Damian smiled faintly and looked down. "Sotis I realize that I’m unworthy of you anymore. I even thought about letting you be happy your way, my logic says that but my heart can’t accept it... I just want to keep chasing you, getting you, then making you happy, and overcoming my mistakes... That will be my happiness too," he continued while looking back at Valerie.
Valerie was stunned as if touched by Damian’s confession.
Damian sighed, then sat next to Valerie with a tilted position facing her, leaning his hand on the sofa casually.
"Forgive ," he said.
"What... Forgive you for what?" Valerie asked nervously, unable to et his gray eyes.
"For what happened... I can’t ntion everything... I hurt you too many tis," Damian replied, looking at her so intensely that slowly his hand stroked her cheek. "Sotis I realize... I don’t deserve to love you... so inappropriate I said that I love you,All this ti I’ve always hurt you, underestimated you... As if I’m the best... I should be prioritized... I’m wrong... I can’t understand you, I’ve never truly made you happy. I’m a jerk... It’s understandable if you’re very cautious about accepting
again... You won’t choose a man who has betrayed you..."
Damian sighed, still staring at Valerie.
"But now... Even since you left , I realized all my mistakes and I promise not to repeat them. I must heal your trauma, the wounds in your heart..." Damian continued to look at Valerie, but slowly his eyes beca teary, indicating sadness. "I know I’m selfish, constantly forcing you to accept , even when you refuse, I keep following you. I seem to not appreciate you, not appreciate your decisions... I just... I just can’t bear to lose you again. I don’t know how to live my life without you anymore, especially now with Daniel, who strengthens this love more... My biggest dream is to make you my wife and then we’ll always be together, have another baby like Daniel wants... I want to spend my whole life with you... Both of us together... I never imagined obliging my life with another girl besides you... Only you... But sotis mories of my mistakes seem to lead
into fear... Fear that all my dreams will never co true and then I will always be alone in the shadows of regret for my foolishness!" He cried, turning his face away and looking at Daniel, who was sleeping so peacefully.
Valerie looked sadly at Damian, then reached out to wipe his tears.
"I’m so sorry!" Damian exclaid, looking back at Valerie. "I shouldn’t have forced you... But I can’t live without you!"
Valerie imdiately pulled Damian and hugged him, her body trembling from Damian’s continuous sobbing.
"I’m so sorry!" Damian exclaid.
"It’s okay... Everything’s just the past."
"But I can’t stop regretting my mistakes... sotis I want to punish myself!"
"You don’t need to do that." Valerie released her embrace, looking at Damian calmly, wiping his tears with both her hands. "I’ve punished you by not giving you the chance to see Daniel’s growth from babyhood to toddler... And actually, I’m hurt by that too. I was wrong... I shouldn’t have done that even though you had faults."
"I deserve it..."
Valerie took a long deep breath, still staring at Damian, as if she still truly loved him.
"You don’t have to accept
right now, I don’t want to bring you into trouble," Damian said.
"Then what if I want to accept you now?" Valerie asked.
Damian imdiately furrowed his brow, his face showing surprise.
