Compared to others, Selim’s features were sowhat flat, so when Selim stood in front of Laura, she didn’t imdiately recognize her.
Seeing the slightly uneasy expression on Selim’s face, Laura Jones felt a little embarrassed.
She quickly explained:
"I was just focused on looking inside and didn’t notice you ca out."
She explained, trying to ease the awkwardness between them.
Although Selim felt a bit uncomfortable inside, she had co to seek help from Laura Jones, so naturally, she wouldn’t really be angry with her, and quickly changed the topic.
"Laura, I also didn’t recognize you at first; you’re a hundred tis prettier than in the photos."
Laura Jones was a bit embarrassed by the complint, scratching her head awkwardly, "That’s quite an exaggeration."
She helped Selim with her suitcase and asked her a few questions about her family back ho.
When this topic ca up, Laura Jones clearly saw a change in Selim’s facial expression.
Laura Jones thought that she might have touched upon sothing sad, and seeing Selim unwilling to answer, she didn’t press on further.
She opened up a new topic, "Let’s go over there to catch a taxi."
"Sure."
Selim nodded with a smile, following Laura Jones to queue at the taxi stand. While waiting in line, Selim asked:
"Laura, how far is your place from the airport?"
"It’s about an hour’s drive."
"An hour?!!"
Selim exclaid instinctively, "Won’t that cost several hundred bucks? Shouldn’t we take the airport shuttle instead?"
"No worries, the airport shuttle would take even longer. You’ve been on a long flight already, you must be exhausted, let’s head ho and rest."
Seeing her frowning and looking troubled, Laura Jones thought she was worried about the taxi fare, so she reassured her:
"Don’t worry about that, you’re my guest; of course, I’ll cover the expenses here."
Hearing this, Selim looked up at her, a bit embarrassed, "That’s too kind of you."
"It’s nothing; aren’t we friends?"
While chatting, their taxi arrived.
Laura Jones helped Selim put the suitcase in the car, and then they headed to Laura’s ho in the city.
An hour later, the taxi stopped outside the Cloud Thunder Community gate.
Selim’s ho was in a very backward small town, and the gap compared to a top city like Alaska was enormous.
Selim had never been outside her county, only seen such places on TV; arriving in the big city and seeing the palace-like community gate left her stunned for quite a while.
The community’s security guards were all rigorously trained, with high standards in both appearance and professional quality.
Selim was in awe all the way, until she and Laura got on the elevator and reached her doorstep, did she finally co back to her senses.
"Laura, you’re really well-off to rent such a nice place."
Laura Jones, hearing this while opening the door, replied:
"I’m not rich; my big brother bought this place for ."
"Bought it?"
Selim looked shocked again, "Your brother must be really wealthy!"
"He’s doing okay."
Laura Jones was not eager to divulge more and led her inside.
While she was changing her shoes, Selim stepped inside directly with her shoes on, catching Laura by surprise.
The hand holding the slippers for Selim paused mid-air.
Selim, admiring Laura’s ho, turned around when she didn’t see her co in, and saw her changing shoes at the entrance.
