Thinking as she walked to the gate to open it, she was slightly surprised to see who stood outside.
"Cousin-in-law."
Shannon Richards waved enthusiastically at her from outside.
Helen lendy furrowed her brows subtly and stepped forward to open the gate.
"What brings you here?"
Shannon Richards walked in like an old acquaintance, reaching to take Helen lendy’s arm, "I ca to hang out with my cousin-in-law, did you forget? I said last ti I’d visit when I had the chance."
Helen lendy pulled her arm away from Shannon Richards, not showing much enthusiasm.
"Oh."
She casually responded, without much intention of engaging, and returned to sit under the parasol where she had been lying, slowly sipping her coffee without any intention of making tea or coffee for Shannon Richards.
Shannon Richards seed oblivious to Helen lendy’s coldness, sitting down beside her and said:
"Cousin-in-law, this coffee slls lovely, what brand is it? I’d like to buy so too."
She tried to get closer to Helen lendy, but was t with, "I don’t know, Harry bought it."
Shannon Richards tried to find sothing to talk about with Helen lendy, but Helen showed little interest in maintaining a conversation.
Gradually, Shannon Richards also began to feel at a bit of a loss, her initially enthusiastic smile turning awkward.
"By the way, cousin-in-law, your birthday is coming up in a few days, did your cousin ntion any plans?"
She probed cautiously and continued, "This is your first birthday after the wedding, your cousin should celebrate it well with you."
"How about I invite my parents and everyone over to celebrate with you? A family birthday is always more lively."
Helen quietly drank her coffee, noticing the hidden probing in Shannon Richards’ words, a slight smile forming beneath the rim of her cup.
Shannon Richards is truly amusing.
The Smith Family had sent out invitations for a birthday party for the Smith Family’s eldest daughter - others might not know it was her, but Shannon Richards surely did?
Even if Shannon Richards didn’t know, why would her birthday, which she planned to spend with her husband, concern this cousin she barely interacted with?
Moreover, even if it were truly like she said, that a family birthday should be lively, in no scenario could this "family" include the Richards Clan.
The only "Richards" who could reasonably be considered family would be her so-called mother-in-law, Leanne Richards.
Yet amusingly, Shannon Richards excludes Leanne, instead including her own family to celebrate Helen’s birthday.
She really didn’t know when her relationship with Shannon had beco so close.
Putting down her coffee cup, Helen lendy looked at Shannon Richards and said:
"No need, my parents are throwing a birthday party, I’ll be celebrating with them."
As soon as she said that, Shannon Richards’ eyes noticeably brightened.
"I almost forgot about that, I heard Uncle Smith and Aunt Smith are holding a birthday party for you."
She crouched down slowly beside Helen lendy, looking at her with undisguised envy and expectation in her eyes.
"Cousin-in-law, I’m so glad you beca my cousin-in-law and part of our family. I wanted to celebrate your birthday too, but unfortunately..."
As she spoke, she lowered her eyes sowhat disappointedly.
