Sophia Taylor hesitated for a mont and declined, "No, it wouldn’t be right for to disturb you like that."

"What disturbance? It’s just one more person at the table. If you were to cook by yourself, it’d be far more troubleso."

In the end, Sophia reluctantly agreed, feeling slightly embarrassed.

On the way to the resettlent site, they had to pass by the road that was currently under construction. Sophia instinctively paused in her steps, her gaze falling onto the road.

"What’s wrong?"

Elly Campbell noticed her standing still and staring blankly at the road, and asked curiously.

"Oh, it’s nothing. I was just thinking that when this mountain road is completed, it’ll be so much easier for people here to travel outside. Maybe their living conditions will improve as well."

She turned to Elly, her expression filled with emotion. "If it weren’t for you, these children might never have had the opportunity to leave the mountains."

Elly understood what Sophia ant.

Even though there’s a saying about talented individuals rising from humble beginnings, in today’s society, the disparity in educational resources and foundational opportunities ans that children don’t start on equal footing.

The reality is, it’s becoming increasingly rare for those from humble beginnings to achieve greatness.

She had seen it herself over the past few days.

These children could learn how to read, write, and grasp basic arithtic, chemistry, and physics, but it was only scratching the surface. What they learned might fall far behind what the academically outstanding students in cities achieved.

Perhaps these children would spend their entire lives in the mountains, and even if they ventured outside, survival would be tough.

"There will be opportunities. Everyone has opportunities."

She had already discussed plans with Adam Jones. Once the infrastructure here was complete, they could collaborate with the village to develop a tourism area, which would undoubtedly provide a path for the mountain villagers to work their way toward prosperity.

However, since this idea was still in its early stages, Elly didn’t say much about it to Sophia.

"I heard from the Village Chief that the new school buildings were donated by Mr. Jones. Was that road donated by Mr. Jones too? You really are wonderful people."

Sophia pointed to the distant road, expressing her gratitude sincerely.

"No, that road was built by soone else."

At the ntion of this, Elly’s thoughts drifted toward Ethan White.

Now that they had a lead for the investigation, figuring out Ethan’s identity should be simpler.

Ethan White had always been a thorn lodged in her mind. Without clarifying his identity, she felt uneasy.

"Let’s go."

Elly walked a few steps forward, unaware of the contemplative look on Sophia’s face.

After traveling so distance, Elly was still preoccupied with Ethan White’s matter. She had planned to ask Adam Jones later about the results of their investigation into Ethan’s identity, but she unexpectedly crossed paths with him along the way.

"I heard your group has already finished making lunch."

Ethan White stood lazily in front of her, his tall fra blocking the way. His tone was unusually casual.

"Yeah, so what?"

"I’m hungry. Let co eat with you."

The sheer matter-of-factness in his voice made Elly knit her brows in mild discomfort.

Letting him join for a al wasn’t a problem. The real issue was Adam’s jealous nature—he certainly wouldn’t be happy about it.

Perhaps Ethan sensed she might refuse; he deliberately rolled up his shirt sleeve right in front of her. His strong arm was wrapped in white bandages, faint traces of blood seeping through.

The words of refusal that had been at the tip of Elly’s tongue got swallowed back.

"Let’s go."

A trace of a smile appeared on Ethan’s lips. His gaze lingered on Elly’s begrudging expression for a mont before he calmly averted his eyes, pretending not to notice. He followed beside her as they headed back toward the resettlent site.
