Inez felt herself go red in the face due to embarrassnt. She didn’t want to co out as soone who was judging Tracy for what she was, but there was this—inherent contempt that she had against the witches due to the shifter blood flowing in her veins.

But then again, Tracy had done her best to save her, and she was being rude to her by talking to her in that tone.

"I am—" Inez began, but Tracy waved her hand and said to her, "There is no need to apologise; I do understand. It’s not easy for a shifter to let go of their prejudices against witches. It would be surprising if you got used to in a day or two."

Inez heaved a sigh of relief. The weight on her shoulders lifted, and it was only then that she realised that she was actually carrying a weight on her shoulders. She blinked her eyes and looked at the woman in front of her, and asked, "Why are you here? I an, why are you trying to help ?"

Tracy turned her head to one side and stared at the sky as if she were reminiscing. After a long pause, she said to Inez, "I did tell you that I once had a friend who was a siren like you, but I didn’t—or more like couldn’t—help him. It led to quite a lot of ss. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the current ss is due to the ss that we didn’t fix in the past."

She scowled at the sky and continued speaking as if she were talking with soone, "If only they had listened to what I had to say to them!"

The last of her words ended up in a growl, and Inez had no idea why the woman was talking as if she could see soone up in the sky.

"Anyway", Tracy brought her head down and smiled at Inez. She flashed a smile at her and continued, "I am here to fix the ss that happened a few years ago, but don’t worry; with by your side, everything should be fine."

"Should be?"

"Ah, did I say ’should? I ant to say it will be fine."

There was sothing in Tracy’s voice which made Inez nervous. It was as if the witch saw things that she couldn’t, and that didn’t make Inez feel good at all.

The thoughts that she had jamd shut in the back of her head started to flood right the fuck out, and Inez had a hard ti surviving them without drowning. When she very much wanted to give up and die, maybe that would be more peaceful.

"Don’t worry too much." Tracy sighed as she pulled out her phone and started tapping on it because the water on her wrist was continuously vibrating. Maybe she had tapped on the setting and muted the watch because a second later it stopped buzzing.

"Don’t worry?" Inez repeated, her voice laced with nothing but worry. "You told that I have powers. Powers that can ruin the world or sothing like that," Inez insisted as she flailed her hand harshly. "Now you are telling that you are here to fix a ss that you couldn’t fix years ago, and you want not to worry? Not worry after finding out that my very existence is like a virus in this world that either needs to prove its worth to survive or be eradicated?" Her voice cracked as it reached a whole new pitch. "If I still don’t worry when things are like this, then I will be so sort of godly existence, which I am not."

Tracy waited for her to finish speaking. She stared at her like she was watching a child throw a tantrum, which didn’t help Inez feel any better. The silence between them stretched even further, only to be punctuated by the birds that were returning ho. "You are correct. It’s not fair to you at all."

Of course it wasn’t.

Inez began to speak, but before she could, Tracy took a step close to her and leaned in such that her eyes stared at her face. "But do you know there is a thing that we call Fate?"

Those words caught her off guard, and soon enough, the night, the very night where she was rejected by Dominic, followed by the day she t Killian and Dominic choosing Evelyn over her, ca to her mind. A second later, sothing sharp and jagged got buried in her lungs, and it beca painfully hard for her to breathe.

"I do know about that," she spoke in a voice laced with pain. Her fingers clenched tight as she tried to ease the subdued pain in her chest. She had long moved on from Dominic, who had abandoned and rejected her, but at the sa ti, her wolf had not; she was still pinning, and it was at tis like these that she felt the full-blown impact of the broken mating bond.

She could suppress the mories, but how was she supposed to suppress the pain of her wolf when Nia was still alive and breathing, recovering from the rejection and trying to overco the pain that the humiliation had caused them?

And it was all due to fate that they were suffering in such a manner. That her wolf was on the verge of disappearing and was only holding on for Inez. If fate had given them a better mate, then her wolf would be here with her, happy and filled with joy. Maybe if they had given her Killian as her mate, then maybe the two of them wouldn’t be tangled in a ss like they were now.

"I know that you bla fate, but rember this: that there is not one fate, but fates, in plural," explained Tracy as she walked past her and headed over to the lodge where Inez lived. "I know that your kind often says that if you are fated to sothing, no matter what you do or how hard you fight, there is no escaping it. That your destiny is already set in stone, but I believe that’s incorrect."

"In fact, even the fates believe that it is quite incorrect."
