The room was engulfed in darkness, only faint light infiltrating from the cracks in the ceiling. In the center of the gigantic room, they saw a colossal dragon lying gracefully on a stone-paved floor.
The standard image of dragons was of creatures with dark, sinister scales. But the thing before them was different. It had pale blue scales with antlers like deer. There were no fangs in its mouth, just a five-10 foot long white beard.
The dragon was in a deep sleep, but its breath did not snore like dragons in most movies. Instead, this legendary monster looked more graceful.
Still, a dragon was a dragon. No matter how graceful it was, it would bring fear to anyone who saw it. Noah was living proof. This man could not help but shake his leg as he saw the legendary monster before his eyes.
"Klaus! We'd better get the hell out of here. We'll die if that monster wakes up!" Noah whispered in fear.
"Nah. We ca all this way just for it."
"Are you fucking kidding ? Do you want to kill that big thing with just the two of us? Don't be ridiculous! We should call the backup."
"No, we don't. You can't tell the others. Or our plan will fail. Do you want to forever curry favor with that man who looks down on you?"
Klaus looked into Noah's eyes, trying to convince him with his gaze. And Noah himself was silent, biting his lip. Doubt was written all over his face.
After their eyes locked for a long ti, a sigh escaped Noah.
"I can't," Noah said, shaking his head. "This makes no sense Klaus. If you want to die, die alone." He then walked away.
"Hey! Wait!" Klaus exclaid.
But Noah didn't look back. Instead, he accelerated his walks. This man wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a rumble echoed through the room. Noah naturally stopped moving. His hair stood on end as he felt a spine-chilling terror behind him.
As he looked back, the dragon's head towered over him. Its neck was long, and its body was so massive that it filled the room.
Noah couldn't help but tremble. He stood still with his eyes open. No sound escaped his mouth other than a gasp in fear.
The dragon finally woke up from his sleep.
"Kl... Klaus... you bastard," Noah muttered.
anwhile, Klaus was smiling broadly.
Instead of attacking or spitting fire, the dragon just watched them. Its amber crescent-like eyes did not show a bloodthirsty aura like most monsters in the dungeon. It was very calm and gentle.
However, Noah was still afraid.
The man quickly ran with all his might towards the gate. Surprisingly, the dragon still did nothing to him.
"Hey! Wait! Noah!"
Seeing that his cousin continued running away, Klaus clicked his tongue. Then, he aid at Noah and flicked his finger.
Phew!
"Arghhhh!"
Thud.
Noah collapsed. Klaus had just sent [Sleep Wave] to him. He didn't want his cousin to tell everyone and ss things up.
"You humans are unique. You cast magic on your friend."
An old man's raspy voice caught Klaus' attention. He looked back, and the dragon looked at him with a curious gaze.
Yes, it was talking to Klaus.
"Ah, the wisest being in the universe has finally awakened from his nap. Sorry if I bothered you."
As Klaus said, dragons were one of the creatures with a high intelligence level. They were one level higher than humans and elves. And they were also aesthetic creatures, loving beauty, especially art.
Also, these creatures had a very long life. And the dragon in front of Klaus right now was one of them. The white beard dangling from its chin was proof of that.
When the awakeners set foot in this castle, Klaus imdiately knew that a dragon was the alpha that ruled this dungeon.
He ca here to negotiate with it.
The dragon snorted. "You're not afraid when you talk to . You are different from other humans I have t. You're very calm, unlike your friend."
"Yeah, the irony is that he's my cousin."
Suddenly, the dragon lowered its head. Its eyes scanned Klaus from top to bottom.
"Every ti I et a human, they want sothing from ."
Klaus smirked. "Yeah, I want you to do a favor."
Suddenly, the dragon drew close to his face. "Favor? We just t, but you already demanded . You didn't even introduce your na. What an arrogant human."
"Should we introduce ourselves when you and I know we will never et again?"
The dragon fell silent. Its eyes narrowed, and a long sigh escaped from its nose. "You're right. I don't usually ask my food for nas. But I am listening."
A grin appeared on Klaus' face.I think you should take a look at
He told the dragon that awakeners were infiltrating the castle. He wanted them to kill Morning Star and Sunstrike. Of course, including their troubleso guild master.
After that, he wanted the dragon to pretend to lose to one of his guild mbers.
The plan was not to get rid of Vincent or Hugo but to gain credit. If two giant guilds died, leaving a single Rays of Hope surviving, surely all the spotlights would be on his guild. In an instant, Rays of Hope's reputation would skyrocket.
In other words, Klaus aid to gain popularity.
To make that happen, Klaus needed so of the awakeners in this raid to live as eyewitnesses to see how Rays of Hope defeated the alpha of the yellow dungeon. People wouldn't believe it if only the Rays of Hope survived. They would think his guild was lucky after the top two sacrificed themselves.
However, it was plan A.
After hearing Klaus' long explanation, the dragon was silent. No sound escaped it other than breathing.
Not long after, the dragon said, "Besides telling to close the dinsional rift between our worlds, you want to pretend to lose? And how can a dragon like pretend to die before them?"
Klaus sighed. "I'm not stupid. The thick fog on this island, the maze inside the castle, and how you set traps to hypnotize intruders; you have illusion magic, don't you?"
His answer made the dragon open its eyes wide. The shock was written all over its face. It never crossed its mind that a human would know its power.
Just like humans, dragons had great pride. They hated it when other creatures were able to read them.
"How's it gonna be, lord dragon?"
The dragon exhaled. Suddenly, the atmosphere changed, and its head rose high. Klaus' size was like an insect compared to it.
"Human. It's interesting to hear your plan. You don't mind taking your kind's life for your own sake. But you made a mistake. I am a mighty dragon. I will not put down my pride for the sake of a human's cunning ga."
Klaus raised his eyebrows. He sensed the dragon's oppressive aura.
"Well, I take it you refuse my favors. How unfortunate."
"Why do you think I'll lose out if I refuse your favors?" asked the dragon.
"If you reject it, I have no choice but to execute plan B."
"What's plan B?"
Klaus smirked. "Slaying the dragon."
Naturally, the legendary monster glared. Its mouth emitted sparks as it snorted. "You arrogant bastard."
The negotiation failed. The battle between Klaus and the dragon was inevitable.
Swoooshhh!
The dragon spewed burning flas at Klaus. However, Klaus easily dodged the fla with agile and nimble movents.
Using the distraction caused by the flas, Klaus quickly approached the dragon. He threw his tal spheres with pinpoint accuracy, targeting its weak points.
Phew! Phew! Phew!
KRIIIIIEEEKK!
Each sphere struck with a force that shook its body, eliciting groans of pain.
"Human bastard!"
Swooosh!
The dragon spewed fire, but Klaus was undeterred. Darkness was part of him. He used his dark power, diving into the shadows.
Phew! Phew! Phew!
KRIEEEKKKKK
Inside the shadows, he hurled his tal sphere with lightning speed, causing a wave of energy to hurtle toward the dragon. Each strike hit its target precisely, triggering chaos and damage to its body.
The dragon tried to fight back, letting out powerful fire gusts and wind. However, Klaus could evade each attack by hiding in the shadows.
Sphere shot after sphere shot rushed out, overwhelming the dragon.
"Eat this!"
With a finger flick, Klaus sent the last tal sphere wrapped in darkness slamming into the dragon.
Bam!
The dragon instantly fell to the ground, helpless and defeated.
As the sounds of battle died, Klaus looked up at the ceiling.
"Get out. I know you're hiding up there."
"Hehe, so you know you've been fighting my illusions. Not bad."
