"Kael, you are a very clever mage. I have co to understand your past. For a long ti, you've been competing against those stronger than you.
Of course, I know that part of this is because you have a legendary figure supporting you from behind.
However, as things develop further, even a legend is not that reliable to cover for you.
In this regard, you are undoubtedly very calm."
The previous conversation in the carriage felt more like a reminiscence between the old and the young, sharing stories from the past.
The overall atmosphere carried a sense of nostalgia and a relaxed air.
But once inside the Lord Mansion, in a private conference room, Bartlet Monarch's expression slightly changed.
At this point, Kael had already dismissed the maids of the Shadow Garden surrounding them, leaving only Lady Lin Hua to co and go in the conference room, serving tea to them.
"So, regarding what Sister Franca ntioned earlier, that you plan to share so of your past experiences with Enchantnt Magic, I am truly grateful."
In fact, anyone could see that Kael prioritizes the safety of himself and those around him far above the Duchy or the Federation.
Only when ensuring the safety of those around him would he turn his gaze to the Duchy, or even the Federation.
This approach isn't exactly problematic, but for soone like Bartlet Monarch, who is determined to return to his holand even under life-threatening circumstances, it's not particularly appealing.
Bartlet has the right to be stubborn in this regard; facing Kael now, who, although important, still pales in comparison to Bartlet, he didn't have to teach him anything.
After all, whether to impart magical knowledge is entirely Bartlet's decision. No one could possibly hold a knife to his throat and force him into it, right?
Even during his ti in the holy land of Briania, no one was crazy enough to do such a thing. The mastermind behind the Inquisition was always stern, but when eting Bartlet, they'd at least put on a symbolic smile.
It's only because Bartlet always wanted to return to the Bell Federation that he received such inhumane treatnt.
Under normal circumstances, others would be begging him for such knowledge.
So, don't you think it's why Kael told Bartlet, "I'm truly grateful"?
Clearly, Bartlet intends to genuinely teach Kael, in a capacity of giving generously.
Originally, not helping each other would already be pretty good. Who could have expected Bartlet Monarch to be willing to impart true skills? Such an unexpectedly delightful outco indeed surprises imnsely.
"You seem to find it strange, why do I want to help you?"
"Indeed, quite curious why. After all, you should be able to see that our ideologies are quite different."
Kael also looked forward to getting a chance from Bartlet Monarch to clear his confusion.
Bartlet picked up the red tea brewed by Lady Lin Hua in front of him, took a sip, and softly said:
"In your view, how is the current state of survival for Enchantnt Mages?"
"Not great."
"Speak the truth."
"Like rats choosing a career, unlike a man choosing his XP.
Such XP is known only to your partner as long as you are willing to share.
But once you choose to be an Enchantnt Mage, you naturally encounter discrimination and targeting from others, since even with different words, the core of Enchantnt is still Manipulation Magic."
"So, you should be able to understand why I do what I do."
Bartlet drank the red tea in one go, chuckled lightly, and said:
"There are three reasons why I'm willing to give you a hand.
The first, and also the most important reason, is that I am betting on the future. I bet you'll be 'selfish' enough to take action when those who have helped you fall into sches and lies.
Although most often you act based on interests, for those forces you collaborate with happily, you've never been lacking.
This is what I admire most about you."
Bartlet put down the teacup, leaned back into the chair, and shifted into a more comfortable position, saying:
"You have a family that is sort of fortunate yet not entirely lucky. Being born into this family, you have gained a clear understanding of what it's like to live in the Inglans Duchy, what you've given, and what you've received.
Therefore, you never wallow in self-pity over such matters but lean towards earning power and wealth through your efforts to change the entire environnt."
"Isn't it possible... it's simply because, often tis, I harbor a desire to curl up in the protection of this force, using it as a shelter to weather storms?"
Kael sipped so red tea, took out a small packet of sugar from the nearby jar, and directly poured it into the teacup.
He picked up a slightly soft tal stirring stick and slowly rotated it. Amidst the curling steam, the sugar lted in the teacup, and only then did he lift it, take a sip, and say:
"Lord Bartlet, my wishes are actually pretty simple, which is to live happily and peacefully in this world with those I care about.
But precisely because I know that in this era, every nation is constantly poised on the brink of explosion.
The conflict between countries has beco increasingly apparent, and in such turbulent tis, the so-called 'peaceful days' are truly a luxury.
