The mont I stepped out of my room, Natasha was standing outside, leaning on the wall just opposite my door with her head lowered. She must have co here but lacked the courage to knock, which is ironic because her arrogant and snobbish attitude was what earned her the title ’Witch of the West’ in class, yet she was nothing but a pitiful cat in my presence.
’Love disarms and weakens people. Avoid it at all cost,’ I reminded myself.
She quickly noticed my appearance, looking up to et my gaze.
"Can–" Natasha froze as she noticed the clothes I had on weren’t for normal outings.
It was a turtleneck leather sleeveless shirt, complented by cargo pants fastened with a utility belt from which my Rai’ki blades hung, finalized with boots—all black. She noticed I had my Rai’ki gloves on before looking back up to et my gaze with a questioning look.
"What’s going on?" she asked with a slight gasp.
Our eyes stayed connected for three seconds before I looked away and used my palm print on the door sensor to lock it.
"It’s none of your business." My response was simple and cold.
I began walking down the lonely corridor, hearing all manner of noises from everywhere—ranging from loud laughs to chatters and even moaning sounds from couples who wanted the entire building to know they were making love. This reminded of the reason why barely over five out of fifty Limitless graduate and make it out of this academy alive.
There were far too many useless people wielding powers they aren’t able to use properly. If I had my way, I would have dragged them back to Nightfall Dominion territory and slaughtered them there like the animals they are. That way, a being of greater calling would be able to use their abilities for sothing aningful.
Ding!
The bell sound rang as the elevator doors slid open with a hiss, and I stepped in. However, before it could close, Natasha slipped in. She leaned on the wall with her face covered in sweat while gasping heavily.
"You walk really fast... It’s as fast as most people’s running!" she said between gasps.
This revelation stunned because I didn’t seem to notice, but it made sense since my speed stat was 10 points. Even an hour back when I was still in my weakened state, my stats were still at 7 points at the barest minimum, which ant I was still physically stronger than most humans.
Stealing a glance at my wristwatch, it was already 11 a.m.—a bit late, but this was the best ti to make a dramatic entry and steal the spotlight at the Limitless recruitnt event.
Yes, I plan to personally take part in the invasion of Louisiana. I’ll move with the army and when I find an opportunity, I will kill Lee Bai, or at least set him up to be killed by the military.
"Only one GateKeeper is allowed to exist in this world." I muttered under my breath and inhaled deeply.
Natasha seed to pay attention to my every move like she always did. Based on the look in her eyes, she always had questions to ask but was too afraid to voice them. She knew if she beca too much of a nuisance, I would completely push her away and never look back.
Natasha was well aware that her love was one-sided and her dream was to have reciprocate this love, but God knows that will never happen.
"I won’t speak to Pala about it." She seed to have mustered up so courage as she saw selecting the ground floor on the elevator controls.
"Please tell what you are planning to do by this ti of the night," Natasha requested in a pleading voice filled with fear.
To this, I raised an eyebrow in confusion at first, wondering why she was overreacting, but my brain worked fast, putting two and two together in an instant. My eyes widened in realization as the full image was painted before my eyes and although I found it stupid, it wasn’t unreasonable.
Hahahaha!
I laughed out and facepald, amused by her thought process. She jerked back a bit, bewildered by my sudden outburst, but maintained composure and silence until I was done laughing.
"Don’t tell you think I’m going to pick a fight with Dayvon?" I asked in an amused tone.
Natasha’s face reddened with embarrassnt and she slowly nodded to my words, not denying anything. If there is one thing I appreciated about her, it was her honesty. Having soone willing to tell her thoughts no matter how embarrassing was quite refreshing since the entire world is filled with suffocating lies.
"After last night, you were clearly angry and you refused to pick our calls. Then, I find you leaving the dormitory, fully kitted up like you are heading into battle in the middle of the night. What am I supposed to think?" she muttered with her head lowered.
I simply nodded at her words because it made sense. If I had nothing else to do, I probably would be making plans to hunt down Dayvon and get revenge for the sha I suffered last night. Fortunately, I’m not that jobless. By the way, I still planned to make him pay, just not in the way Natasha was thinking.
"Let ask you a question..." A thought ca to mind.
Natasha blinked and raised her head to et my gaze, slightly confused by my request, but she nodded regardless.
"Go on..." she said.
"Who do you think would have died if Pala and William didn’t interfere last night?"
Buzz!
I noticed Natasha’s brows furrow and she quickly avoided eye contact. This was all I needed to see to know her answer and I didn’t hold it against her.
I just needed to understand the kind of image Dayvon has built in the hearts and minds of these people, and it seems it’s an image of invincibility.
Ding!
The elevator stopped and the doors hissed open. Not waiting for a response, I walked out, heading straight to the hostel exit while Natasha’s hurried footsteps trailed my movents. I briefly nodded at the lady seated behind the counter and she stood up and bowed fully.
"Good day, Master Black." Her tone was filled with respect. "If I may ask, where could you be going all dressed up tonight?"
It has been this way since I saved 3,000 civilians from Louisiana, earning 2,000 contribution points—twice as much as what Pala had promised. Currently, I had 2,300 contribution points, just 2,700 points away from ascending to the second floor of the academy.
"To lend my strength in the Louisiana retake effort..." I said with a friendly smile while still walking. "Since I have so free ti, I might as well lend my strength."
The receptionist’s eyes widened and her face lit up like a light bulb as she bowed deeply a second ti.
"THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT!" she yelled, and I just chuckled and walked past.
Building a strong image is necessary for my future plans. While I am a mber of the Watchers, it doesn’t an I should isolate myself from the governnt. Yes, they are cruel and evil, but those under them reap quite a lot of benefits, which I am also interested in. I will simply make myself of use to both sides and ultimately consu both when I have accumulated enough strength to challenge the world.
As soon as I stepped outside, a black sedan was already parked in front of the building with Mandy seated on the bonnet in her usual black suit.
She hopped to her feet upon seeing and bowed slightly, and I simply nodded while heading toward the front seat.
"YOU CAN’T!" Natasha yelled as soon as I touched the door handle, and I stopped, my brows furrowing.
Mandy glanced past once before eting my gaze. She quickly opened her door and slid into the car, acting like she heard nothing.
Letting out a sigh, I turned around to et Natasha’s gaze. Her nightgown was already soaked with sweat and her breathing heavy, but none of these mattered to .
"I can’t what?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"You can’t take part in that war... It’s too dangerous... You will die!" she yelled, causing my brow to knit together.
At this point, I was going to assu Natasha was looking down on , and I didn’t find it amusing. She noticed my annoyance and quickly voiced her explanation for the statent.
"If you had never left last night, you would have known why you shouldn’t go there. It’s too dangerous for you!" she said, causing my furrowed brows to relax a bit.
Judging based off her words, it ant the eting on Louisiana actually happened, so Pala wasn’t necessarily lying. However, I believe I understand the situation better than anyone else. No matter how much they knew, they shouldn’t be aware of the existence of GateKeepers, and even if they were aware, it ant we had the sa level of information.
In conclusion, Natasha’s fears are baseless.
"Watch ."
That was all I said before opening the door and entering the car. From the tinted windows, I watched Natasha stand there, gazing at our vehicle like a lost puppy as we left the dormitory premises.
