Chapter 598: The Day of Year’s Glory

Two weeks later, I watched the Day of Year’s Glory happen around from a window inside the head of the only cha modelled in my likeness, Nectus II.

It has been used for the first ti to officially unite the Bee Empire, but it has appeared several tis on various ceremonies since then. Mostly for the sake of humans who attended them.

Nectus II was upgraded several tis with more advanced technical parts, including one-way windows in place of its eyes. They weren’t made from an actual modern one-way glass, but used clever shading and darkness inside the area behind them to appear dark and hide whoever watched from the other side.

This ant that although I perfectly saw everything around, nobody outside saw —unless they could see heat or in the dark. But here, only bees had these abilities, and I wasn’t hiding from THEM.

Nectus II was standing on a raised and decorated stage in the middle of the main square in the Naregan capital city. Next to Nectus II were ten Queen-class chas that served as its honour guard. All of them looked wonderfully majestic with all their elaborate golden adornnts and clothing prepared just for today.

And there was an eleventh Queen-class cha that represented Ambrosia and stood at the side of Nectus II. But Amby wasn’t inside of it; she was right next to , watching everything from the sa window.

The square was many kilotres wide, and today, the place was crowded with countless humans and had so many bees flying around that they created dark clouds that partially blocked the sun.

Human guards kept the humans in check, while above, Foren Bees kept especially enthusiastic spectators far enough from humans to not get smacked by accident.

Millions of bees were given special leave today to watch the spectacle.

So parts of it already happened—like a grand parade with humans and chas that travelled around the streets, female dancers that danced on a cart that was pulled down the streets by six chas, and countless performances by smaller artists, both human and bee ones.

There was an entire theatre play written by bees and played by human actors, which told a story about how the evil gods threw nine plagues at the world, but the good gods sent the divine guardians to help humanity and lead it away from the darkness.

Plain propaganda. But they ca up with so cool special effects. Especially choreographed bee flying.

When a swarm of half a million bees moved in almost perfect synchrony to imitate gods, devils and whatever else the theatre play needed, it looked like a shadow play in 3D. Even I was impressed, and I saw several rehearsals of this beforehand. Humans?

Humans were totally awed!

Worriesgone and her Artists have outdone themselves today. And I knew that they just got enough joy and appreciation to last them another decade.

Now the final mont was approaching.

After all these activities that I and other humans went through, the most important guests of the celebration were slowly approaching Nectus II and other chas.

Those were Ramwill, his posse, and other royalty from kingdoms that were a part of the Bee Empire. But mostly Ramwill.

Even though I was bad at reading humans’ faces, I could tell that he was pretty damn awed. He had a dazed look in his eyes as he turned his head left and right.

Other humans near him were even worse. They might’ve been better at keeping appearances (at least so of them), but I could feel their emotions directly. I could hear their thoughts.

They were too shocked and awed to think about anything but how astounding everything was!

And this made smile broadly.

“It looks like my plan, as expensive as it was, is a success. Right now, Ramwill will probably say and agree to everything we ask him to do. Even more than usual, I an,” I said to Amby over the regular noise of people working in the control booth of our cha.

“But what about later?” she said, frowning. “You read Explanatory’s reports…”

I nodded, because I did.

Over the last three weeks, as Ramwill travelled here and experienced more festivities (with asured breaks in between so he wouldn’t get tired of them), Explanatory carefully asured his mood and thoughts.

By now, Ramwill believed that bees were even more powerful and magical than he had always thought, but speaking with Naregan people didn’t diminish his resentnt toward the power bees had over him.

Instead, it made him despair. And celebrate harder—to distract himself, I believed.

“He will agree to anything now, he will obey later, but eventually his mind will beco full of worms, unpredictable and dangerous. This person cannot be given any power in the Bee Empire,” Ambrosia concluded.

I didn’t reply, just stared at the man in question as he approached.

What Ambrosia was saying between the lines was that I should use the Sound Web on him, because Ramwill had already beco unstable. The way things went, I wouldn’t be surprised if he beca an alcoholic to distract himself.

So, breaking his mind one way or another, was there any difference? At least one way he’d be useful to the Bee Empire. I had billions of daughters to think about, after all.

As Ramwill stepped onto the stage and broke a knee in front of Nectus II, the cha moved. The crew followed the established schedule, and the dynamics inside spoke prerecorded words of the Naregan language.

It was an ordinary speech about the greatness of the Bee Empire and the honour I, Nectus, was bestowing upon Ramwill and the entire Vardish Empire, and how I would lead it to greatness… And so on.

I could tell Ramwill wasn’t really listening, anyway.

So I reached toward his mind and spoke with him myself.

‘Ignore the spectacle around us, Ramwill. It’s for the crowd, not for you,’ I started, playing a little on his sense of importance. ‘I am Nectus, the Emperor of Bees, and I can see that your spirit is ailing and your body is rotting in wine…’
