Chapter 41: Nightmares (1)
The goblins bowed their heads in sorrow.
Lake lay lifeless next to the puddle that had ford due to the sudden rain.
It was almost as if the land itself was mourning.
But Azeth knew that it was the Shaman’s doing.
The Shaman had used so kind of skill, or maybe a spell that caused the raindrops to pitter-patter across the ground.
Maybe he wanted everyone to see how great of a Shaman he was.
Or maybe he simply did it out of respect for Lake.
Either way, Azeth didn’t care.
He looked left and right as the other goblins seed disheartened.
Almost all of them had at least so mory of Lake.
He was the oldest and had been there for everyone.
So when he died, bits and pieces of mories appeared in their minds.
So fell to their knees as they recalled the sad tis.
Others rembered Lake’s sacrifices.
There were tis when Lake had saved them from wild attacks.
Tis when he went alone to bring back babies that had been kidnapped by humans.
They rembered it all.
Azeth couldn’t help but feel the heavy sadness hanging in the air.
He had to gain their trust.
And he wanted to do that before his master arrived.
So he decided to speak.
"My master is kind."
His words were not loud, and the rain partially masked them.
But many still heard him.
After all, no one else was speaking.
A few goblins raised their heads.
Others opened their eyes wide.
But rainwater splashed into their faces, forcing them to close their eyes again.
The half-paralyzed goblin could still move his hands.
He ford makeshift goggles to see more clearly.
The sky was dark.
But darker was Azeth.
"He is kind enough to grant rciful deaths."
Several goblins flinched when they heard that.
"You see, he is soone with very little patience. So when he told to eliminate the foes that were attacking you, I ca running to help you..."
Azeth then pointed at the Shaman, who was still levitating in the air along with his chair.
The man had so kind of small barrier around him.
No droplets touched him.
They splashed away before they could even reach him.
Azeth’s gaze locked onto the Shaman.
He wore a robe blacker than the night sky.
The hood hung over his face and covered everything.
It seed too large for him, swallowing his entire body.
His hands, legs, and form were completely hidden.
The only visible parts were the black gloves the Shaman wore and the staff he held.
The staff was nothing more than a wooden stick with a small stone embedded at the top.
And finally, Azeth noticed one more thing.
A pair of crimson red eyes glowing faintly.
Their intensity changed with the Shaman’s emotions.
Especially now.
The Shaman was angry.
His eyes glowed so brightly that they almost beca a source of illumination.
Thin rays of red light touched the ground.
Azeth continued speaking.
"Instead, you colluded with that Shaman and tried to kill ."
He tilted his head slightly.
"Are your heads just for decoration?"
His voice carried clear mockery.
"Did you really think you could kill ?"
Azeth scoffed and let out a slow sigh.
"And on what basis?"
"Did none of you feel even a little doubt?"
His eyes moved across the goblins standing before him.
The nad goblins remained still.
Their heads were lowered.
Dark shadows covered their faces.
Then Azeth looked to the sides.
The female goblins were far fewer in number.
They had fear clearly written on their faces.
Finally, Azeth turned and looked further into the crowd.
The goblins were not entirely trembling.
Not openly. It was not that obvious but there were signs.
Scratch marks on the ground. Dusty palms of many and so even clenched handful of it.
The other sign was that their eyeballs were shaking haphazardly all while at the corner of their eyes, they were glancing second by second at the Shaman.
He was the root problem and Azeth understood that.
Almost instantly he gave out a declaration.
"You bastard," he raised his voice, which was louder than the sound of rain, at least this ti.
"Co down here and fight !!! How dare you enslave these innocent goblins!? Today I will fight for their freedom!!!"
All the young goblins, especially the half paralyzed one, clenched their fists when they heard that.
But there were those that thought the Shaman’s rule was better.
They were not hungry anymore. They didn’t have to hunt anymore. And they didn’t have to die due to illness anymore.
The Shaman had helped them progress. So if anything, they would side with the known devil than go with an unknown angel!
Azeth smirked internally as he noticed the adults ready to bare fangs at him.
’It would be a problem if I kill them all.’
Part of him thought that it was best to remove all the old tirs who dared to go against his master’s will. But he also thought that the young ones might have thoughts of rebellion.
Heck, they wouldn’t have learnt much yet and with the elders passing, they would be like newborns thrown into the wild.
So Azeth, nodded his head to his thoughts and then opened his mouth wide.
Black Flas burst forward straight towards the Shaman.
The rain drops were turning into vapours almost instantly. Just like the Shaman and his barrier, the flas themselves had a heat barrier. The drops never touched the flas...
BOOM!
The black flas hit the Shaman’s barrier and engulfed it entirely in flas.
"ROARRRR!!!"
Azeth’s terrifying roar had echoed in the forest and no rain’s sound was able to match that.
The goblins closed their ears tight and more than half of them were paralyzed.
And then...
...kaboom!
A large explosion took place right after which white steam covered the entire entrance of the village.
Cough-
Cough-
There were sounds of coughing which belonged to the goblins.
And there were more sounds...
Black silhouettes jumped out from the steam. They were the adults who decided to take Azeth out with a surprise.
’Sigh, what a nightmare...’ and Azeth was fed up. It was dragging on unnecessarily.
