During our ti with the Rebels, Dexter and I stayed in our room. We did not go out other than during altis.
I mostly just did not want to see Carol as she made disgusted. In order to avoid conflict, I would rather stay together with Dexter.
"Why is Geno Society so quiet recently? Why aren’t they doing anything?" Lying on the bed, I asked Dexter, who was calculating sothing in his wheelchair.
He looked up at and said, "They won’t be idle for long. They should be doing sothing soon."
Dexter was right on the money. Soon enough, we heard noises outside-it was Ewan.
"Joel got caught by Geno Society, Mr. Black!" he said.
As expected, sothing ca up.
"Alright, we got it." Dexter seed unexpectedly calm. It was as if he had expected this to happen.
"Did he lose so of his IQ after his reincarnation? Or did sothing happen during the reincarnation and his brain got fried?" I frowned, not expecting Sion to ss things up.
"It’s easy for humans to turn into lovestruck fools when they’re in love," Dexter helplessly said as he opened the door for Ewan.
"Eason’s team was ambushed during their mission. Joel ignored your warning and insisted on going. As expected, he fell into Geno Society’s trap." Ewan sighed with a frown.
Before Joel went to look for Eason, Dexter had reminded him not to act on his own. He could either bring soone along or go with Zion and the other officers.
Despite this, Joel couldn’t help but worry and his lovestruckness ended up getting himself in trouble.
I said disdainfully, "He has it coming. We’re not rescuing him."
Dexter chuckled. "Geno Society is planning to use Sion to control Carol or to ask for in exchange for him."
"We’re not exchanging you for him!" I glanced at Ewan warily. "Tell Carol to save her brother on her own and don’t involve Dexter."
Sion wouldn’t be in any real danger, but I couldn’t risk letting Dexter be in danger. Humans were all selfish, and I only cared for Dexter.
Ewan glanced at before nodding. "We’ll work on a rescue plan."
After he left, I quickly got up and shut the door, locking it right away.
Dexter placed his notebook down and looked up at . "Sion isn’t that stupid, Sophia. He might just be able to save himself."
I glanced at him worriedly. "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking."
As long as Geno Society threatened Sion’s life, Dexter would definitely offer to rescue him.
"I’m not thinking about anything," he softly coaxed.
"Who’s more important-Sion or ?" I asked in a fit of jealousy.
Back then, Sion used to ask Dexter silly questions like this—if or him was more important, or if Dexter would choose between his friend or his loved one.
I always thought Sion was crazy and childish to ask such aningless questions. Yet I had beco the childish one now.
"Sophia." Dexter reached out to hold my wrist, but I avoided him.
"You’re always the most important to ," he softly replied.
Comfort washed over as I looked at him.
"You shouldn’t worry about it, then. Since Carol is so full of herself thinking that she’s capable, we’ll let her figure things out on her own," I whispered while sitting on the bed.
Dexter propped himself up and sat next to . "Sion will be fine, Sophia-and so will you."
Soone was banging at the door from outside. It was obviously Carol.
I felt sowhat annoyed. I knew she would take this opportunity to look for Dexter. "Co out, Dexter! Sion is in danger!" Carol yelled from the outside.
Dexter instinctively glanced at .
I knew he was asking for my permission-one which I would never give.
I got up to open the door and gave Carol a warning glare. ’Sion is your brother. Why are you calling my husband for help?"
She looked at with a jealous expression before saying, ’Sion is in danger, Dexter!"
Dexter said nothing.
"Is his years of friendship with you not worth a thing before this woman?’ Carol asked angrily. ’Geno Society took him away. Even if they won’t kill him, they’d experint on him. You know best how they’ll tornt him!"
"Aren’t you very capable yourself? Can’t you rescue your brother on your own?" I questioned her.
"Shut up, you!" Carol glared at angrily. "It’s all because of you! Why aren’t you dead yet? If it weren’t for you, Sion, Dexter, and I would’ve been the perfect trio together!"
She had always believed that my appearance had disrupted their relationship. Sion used to have the sa thought, but he ended up accepting my existence.
"Everything changed because of you!" Carol said defiantly.
Dexter got up and made his way over on his crutches. "It wouldn’t be you even if she wasn’t around."
Carol looked at him, upset. "So, are you going to listen to her and ignore Sion, then?"
"If you’re truly worried about Sion, you should be thinking about how to rescue him instead of guilt tripping Dexter here." I shielded Dexter behind and frowned at her.
Carol coldly chuckled before she reigned her emotions in. "I just need your word for it, Dexter."
She only wanted to know whether he would help her rescue Sion.
"Geno Society will surely contact you now that they’ve gotten Sion. Let’s wait to see what they want before making decisions,’ Dexter replied in a deep voice.
Carol looked at provocatively, as if she was smugly showing that he still cared about her and Sion.
I said nothing, only turning back to look at Dexter once she was gone.
I knew he wouldn’t ignore Sion’s situation, but I refused to let him risk himself anymore.
"Give the reincarnation data and the genetic codes ’I closed the door and picked up the notebook on the table, asking Dexter to write them all down for .
He remained standing as he looked at pleadingly. He knew that it was a hot potato. It wouldn’t be good getting involved.
"Give them to ," I demanded again. My voice was low and threatening.
I would never allow him to go rescue Sion. If soone had to go to Geno Society, I would do it.
"Sophia." Dexter shook his head, refusing to tell .
"Fine. If Geno Society insists for you to go over, I’ll go with you." I tossed the notebook aside, looking at the numbers written all over.
I did not know what he was calculating, but sohow, I felt as if he was still hiding sothing from .
"We’ll be wiped out once the laws of nature are broken, Sophia,’ Dexter said softly. "Humans will never win against the laws."
I sat by the bed, saying nothing.
Geno Society had already gained the upper hand by capturing Joel. Yet we hadn’t found out the identity of the mastermind yet.
We had allowed them to be in control now.
Dexter walked over to with the help of his crutches. He then pulled my head into his embrace. "Don’t be afraid, Sophia. I’m here."
What was I afraid of? Was it Geno Society or death?
I was only afraid that he might leave .
