"You okay, Grandpa?" Cyrus held Grayson’s hand gently, his gaze soft, missing their usual spite.
Kyle stood near the window, ready to order his n to look into the matter if Grayson gave them a hint about who did it.
Alia stayed outside to talk to the doctor, trying to gain insight into the severity of the situation.
Cyrus’s lips trembled slightly, and he shook his head to steady his heart from feeling emotional.
He couldn’t break like this. He wasn’t allowed to.
He was about to ask Kyle if he wanted to sit near the man who was their grandfather when the door of the room hit the wall after getting pushed so forcefully.
Amora stood at the entrance, tears brimming in her eyes as she looked at her husband, who was so brutally injured and covered in bandages.
"What happened to him, Cyrus? Who did this? Who dared to lay a hand on the forr Alpha King?" Amora asked, caressing Grayson’s cheeks with a concerned, sad, and affectionate gaze.
"We are tracking the area for any suspicious activity. However, we hoped to get so help from Grandfather himself. His secretary and driver are dead. He is the only one who can tell us what exactly happened," Cyrus said.
Her eyes weren’t normal. They turned a shade of gold, and she turned towards the window.
"Who is this man?" She asked Cyrus, and the latter cleared his throat.
"One of my own," He said, not elaborating.
Amora nodded before taking a deep breath.
"Your wife— princess is outside. She shouldn’t be out of the chambers, decided the candidates. You know that, right?" Amora asked.
Cyrus narrowed his brows.
He was about to leave when Amora’s words stopped him.
"Just because she is married to you doesn’t put her above the rituals, Cyrus. She will be treated equally and judged with fairness," Amora said.
Kyle scoffed at the choice of Amora’s words.
Amora looked at Kyle with raised brows.
"You have a problem with what I said, young lad?" She asked.
Kyle shook his head.
"Of course not, your highness. It’s just funny how you are reprimanding your grandson for sothing that he did to save your husband. You know Alia is a prodigy healer.
You should be thanking her for taking over the process right in ti and giving him a composition that stabilized his situation," Kyle said.
Amora froze for a second.
"Is that true, Cyrus?" She looked at her grandson for an answer.
Cyrus didn’t say anything and simply walked out, followed by Amora, who hurried behind him.
"I am asking you sothing, Cyrus," Amora kept calling, but the man didn’t stop.
Instead, he walked to where Alia was looking at the reports of Grayson and discussing his next dose with the senior surgeon in his cabin.
He entered the cabin, catching the doctor’s and Alia’s attention.
"You are here. How is your grandfather doing? Did he gain his consciousness?" Alia asked.
Cyrus grabbed Alia’s hand and pulled her out without explaining.
"Why did you have to co and poke your nose everywhere? Don’t you have any sha? There were set rules for queen trials. Why did you risk it all and co here? Let’s go," Cyrus said, his words loud enough for Amora to hear.
The lady’s ears turned red with embarrassnt and sha.
She looked down at her feet for a brief second, feeling troubled.
"Cyrus, that’s not–" Amora started, but was cut off when Cyrus raised his hand to stop her from speaking.
"My wife is not a joke over here. She ca here because she was worried about her grandfather. But judging from your reaction, it doesn’t look like you are worried about your mate. You are more interested in what my wife is doing here," Cyrus said.
"Cyrus Valentino! He is my mate!" Amora raised her voice.
"Silence!" Cyrus said, and Amora shook in her place at the dominance in his voice, swallowing hard.
Alia looked between the duo and furrowed her brows in confusion.
However, rather than indulging in the fight, she turned and gave the doctor the instructions to bring the necessary dicine. She would prepare the composition with precision to prevent contamination.
Amora looked at the girl and thinned her lips.
"I am sorry," she said.
Cyrus scoffed.
"You better be. This is the last ti I’ll bear disrespect towards my wife. And let be very clear, Grandmother. I am just entertaining your rituals. Alia was, is, and will always be my wife, the only one for ," Cyrus said.
Amora looked at the girl and nodded in understanding.
"I am sorry for causing the ruckus. I should’ve asked the reason first before jumping to the conclusions," Amora said.
Alia, unbothered by their conversation even if it was about them, turned to her left when she felt a cold whoosh of wind touching her neck.
Sothing was weird. She walked towards the window and was about to look outside to see what it was when she heard a shrill scream down the corridor.
Her gaze t Cyrus, and she rushed towards the storage room, for the corridor, along with the staff room.
To say she was surprised at the sight would be an understatent.
In front of her, the nurse who was supposed to change into her uniform for the night shift lay on the floor in her pool of blood, a deep gash on her neck that was still oozing blood.
This was a clear case of murder, and while blood should be normal for people like those, it was not when it was a human’s blood, and especially not when the lingering sll in the room indicated a shapeshifter.
Now the real question was, what was a shapeshifter doing here in the hospital? Was it just a coincidence that it happened at the sa hospital where Grayson was admitted, or were there incidents that the supernaturals were unaware of?
Cyrus looked at Alia, and she nodded in understanding.
She walked over to the human and closed her eyes, placing her hand on her heart.
She didn’t feel anything weird. If her intuition was correct, the death of the nurse was slick and by this neck would only.
What was the shapeshifter exactly here for? And why the hell did it attack a human?
"I think you should leave, Grandmother. It’s not safe for you here. I’ll call you when Grandfather is awake," Cyrus said, his gaze not drifting away from the window.
"I am not –" Amora started to argue, but Cyrus looked at her once, and it was enough for her to stop speaking.
She knew he was doing it for her. And didn’t want to risk her life when they already had Grayson to take care of.
"Should I bring Alia with ?" Amora asked, and Cyrus shook his head in denial.
"Is it because you think I hate her or sothing? I don’t hate her, Cyrus. As the forr Luna queen, it’s my duty to ensure only the deserving person sits on the throne besides you," Amora said.
"I am not suspecting you. She still has so work here," Cyrus said.
Amora gave them one last look before nodding and leaving.
Alia turned to Cyrus, and they both decided to check on Grayson.
"What happened, guys? I heard a scream but didn’t want to leave him alone, and thus, stayed here," Kyle said when he saw Alia and Cyrus entering.
Alia explained everything that had happened before she resigned, then lay down on the couch to rest, feeling tired.
So much for a happy birthday, she sighed, wondering about the battle she was supposed to fight the next day.
She looked at the ceiling of the hospital room with knitted brows.
"You know, I felt it," she said out of the blue, catching Kyle’s and Cyrus’s attention.
"What do you an?" Kyle asked.
Alia turned to look at them.
"Sothing bad was about to happen. And this attack on the grandfather is not a vendetta. It’s a warning. But why now, out of all the tis?" Alia thought loudly.
"Why would they target Grayson for that?" Kyle asked before clearing his throat when Cyrus looked at him.
"I an, Grandfather," He corrected himself.
"That’s what I need to find indeed. Any leads?" Alia asked.
Cyrus shook his head.
"Let’s wait till next evening to see the results. We will form another search team if it doesn’t work. And let’s hope Grandfather wakes up and knows a little of it at least," Cyrus said.
Alia sighed and licked her lips.
That feeling, that cold wind, almost felt like it was slithering on her skin, like sothing dangerous, like a serpent’s hiss had echoed in her ear.
"I think I should leave. Can you arrange for my departure? I have a battle to fight in the morning, and I don’t have an excellent feeling about it, given how today was my eighteenth birthday and I was supposed to unlock a thing and two," Alia said.
Cyrus walked to her and kissed her forehead, cupping her face between his hands.
"Everything is going to be alright. You’ll win. I love you," Cyrus smiled.
"I too, love you," Alia said before pecking his lips.
" too," Kyle said, and Alia shook her head.
She walked to him and stood on her tiptoes, crossing her hands around his neck before pecking his lips, shocking Kyle.
"I have kept you away from your rights for too long. I’ll make up for it, to both of you, once this is over," she said, earning a smirk from two n before she left with Trevor.
