It turns out that the two children’s parents were both in law enforcent. The mother sacrificed her life on a mission the year before Luo Qiao returned to the country, and their father, Luo Feng, never remarried since then.
However, due to the nature of their father’s work, he couldn’t live with them, so he sent them to live with their grandparents, who lived with their big uncle’s family. Of course, he paid for their living expenses every month.
In recent years, many people tried to introduce soone to Luo Feng, but he never agreed. First, he couldn’t forget his wife, and second, he was afraid remarriage would hurt his children, so he kept delaying.
Originally, living with their grandparents was manageable, but at the end of last year, Patriarch Luo fell ill and was hospitalized, causing the grandmother to fall ill from the stress. Not long after, both of them passed away one after the other.
Without the care of their grandparents, their aunt wasn’t as attentive and even bullied the two children in secret.
They ntioned it a few tis to Luo Feng before, but his sister-in-law always said the children were too naughty and that she just scolded them a bit. Helping to look after the kids didn’t win her any gratitude either.
Luo Feng thought maybe the children weren’t explaining themselves clearly, considering besides the sister-in-law, there was also the big brother overseeing them. Plus, he was paying for their living expenses every month, so he didn’t pay much mind to it.
At this point, Lu Yichen took a sip of tea and said, "A few days ago, I finished a task early, went to see the kids with so gifts, and only then found out what kind of life his son and daughter were living.
His brother sat there drinking tea, while a few of the big brother’s children were doing their howork. The sister-in-law was scolding her two children, commanding them to do chores.
In anger, Luo Feng hit his brother and took the two children back ho.
But today, he went out on duty again. He left money for the two children so they could go to the cafeteria for als. Earlier, a few kids in the courtyard tried to snatch the slingshot from him,
that boy is a fierce one, even with their combined effort, they couldn’t beat him."
Luo Qiao said calmly, "It’s fortunate this was discovered early. If it had been any later, the two children’s temperants might have developed issues."
Lu Yichen nodded in agreent, "Indeed, if that boy has a good person guiding him, he surely won’t go astray. That little girl has likely been bullied a lot by the big uncle’s family, making her very timid. Without her brother’s protection, she might just cry like a quail at the slightest encounter. But luckily, she has a loving brother."
Luo Qiao said, "But this can’t go on forever like this either."
Lu Yichen laughed, "Luo Feng might have figured this out too. Recently, the sisters at the bureau have been looking for a suitable match for him."
Luo Qiao listened, "Hopefully, they find soone with a gentle temperant."
Lu Yichen stood up, embraced Luo Qiao, and kissed her forehead, "I know what you’re thinking, but honestly, this is not sothing we can control. You can always invite them over for als during these days at the residential compound."
Luo Qiao nodded, "This afternoon, I’ll prepare so food for them to keep at ho, so if they are hungry, they have sothing. With the cafeteria, they certainly won’t starve."
Lu Yichen gently patted Luo Qiao’s head, "Thank you, my dear wife."
Luo Qiao pinched both of Lu Yichen’s ears, "Alright, even if you weren’t the head of the bureau, I wouldn’t stand idly by since we’ve co across this. Lend a helping hand, and the kids will have a better ti."
Lu Yichen drew her closer, resting his forehead against hers, "You’re truly wonderful, my wife. Thank you for your hard work."
The two lingered for a while before Lu Yichen needed to return to work at the bureau.
After sending Lu Yichen off, Luo Qiao secured the front door and returned inside to sort out the space.
The afternoon was understandably busy. By the ti Lu Yichen returned, she had already prepared food and drinks to take back, including a large package of food for the Luo siblings.
She handed the items to Lu Yichen, "Take these to those two children. Once you’re back, we’ll leave. I’ve called Grandma but told her not to ntion it to the kids. Let’s see how those little ones react."
The place wasn’t too far, so Lu Yichen returned quickly.
Luo Qiao saw him return, "You are quite swift."
Lu Yichen smiled, "It’s not far. I’ll point out which house it is to you, let’s go."
They walked out together, and Lu Yichen specifically pointed out to Luo Qiao where Luo Feng’s courtyard was, "When I went there, the two kids had the door closed and were studying."
Luo Qiao asked, "How old are Luo Chen and Luo Xin?"
Lu Yichen thought for a mont before saying, "Luo Chen is two to three years older than our Yanyan and Yueyue. Luo Xin is older than our son; the exact ages I’m not very sure."
Luo Qiao said gently, "Those two kids really have had a hard ti. Thankfully, Luo Feng discovered it. Otherwise, who knows how much more suffering they would have endured?"
While they were talking, they had already reached the car.
Driving out of the residential compound, it took more than forty minutes to reach the Luo family. If this were after work hours in the future, it would probably take over an hour to get there.
