The family mber who had been brought in earlier stepped forward: "Doctor, Doctor Kang is my friend. It was who begged her to bring in. I got too excited and jumped onto my brother. It’s my fault, so please don’t bla Doctor Kang."
Luo Qiao’s face darkened: "The patient whom I spent four and a half hours rescuing nearly got into trouble because of your commotion. If sothing had gone wrong with your brother in the hospital today, who would bear the responsibility? Wouldn’t it still be us dical staff who get unlucky? You think a casual ’it’s my fault’ can smooth this over? Where do you place your brother, and where do you place us dical staff?"
After operating nonstop for over ten hours, there was no way her mood could be pleasant. Now, faced with this kind of family mber, there was no chance Luo Qiao would be in a good temper.
When she finished speaking, she turned to the nurse behind her and said, "Write a detailed report of today’s incident and submit it."
The family mber grew anxious upon hearing this: "Hey! What are you talking about? Look, I’m telling you, I’m the one who asked Doctor Kang for help. This has nothing to do with her, and you can’t let this matter drag her down. My brother is fine now, so can we just let it drop?"
"This is a hospital, not your ho. If sothing had gone wrong today, we’d all be held accountable. You, as a family mber, may not understand, but shouldn’t he, as a doctor, know better? Why would he act like this? What was his motive? This absolutely has to be reported."
The family mber was now stunned. What was this about? Could there be so hidden story behind this?
Luo Qiao had long known that Doctor Kang had a strong opinion of her—believing that a young doctor like her rising to the position of director surgeon must have been granted special treatnt by the hospital.
Thus, he often made snide remarks, which Luo Qiao simply ignored as jealousy and envy, never taking it to heart. But now, when lives were at stake, he had violated protocol by bringing family mbers into the intensive care unit, nearly causing an accident. This was absolutely intolerable.
The young nurse also understood that today’s incident was not ending peacefully. She could only return to the intensive care unit entrance and relay Director Luo’s intentions to the on-call doctor who had just stepped outside.
The on-call doctor, already brimming with frustration, agreed without hesitation upon hearing this. She went straight to her office and began writing the report.
This was absolutely ridiculous. If soone had ended up in her care and sothing had gone wrong, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
At this point, the family waiting outside the intensive care unit had already been led elsewhere by another nurse, banned from staying near the area. This family was truly infuriating.
When Luo Qiao returned to the office, Lu Yichen happened to co in from the other side.
Luo Qiao asked, "Where’s the little girl?"
Lu Yichen reached out to support her as they walked into the office: "The staff at the nurses’ station arranged for her to sleep in the duty room."
Luo Qiao nodded at his words: "That’s good."
Looking at the empty lunch box in his hand, Lu Yichen asked, "Ready to leave now?"
Luo Qiao nodded: "Let tidy up a bit first."
Lu Yichen poured her another cup of water: "Have so water first. What do you need to tidy up? I’ll help you."
Luo Qiao accepted the water, then went outside to give so instructions to the on-call dical staff. Only then did she head out. At the hospital’s first-floor entrance, she ran into other doctors who had also co to assist. Everyone nodded at each other before leaving the hospital.
Back ho, Rong Daniang heard the sound of the car and greeted them at the door: "Finally back! Co in and have sothing hot to eat first."
Luo Qiao was indeed starving. After washing her hands, she joined Lu Yichen in the kitchen to eat.
Rong Daniang had started simring the chicken the night before, keeping it on low heat. She was of an age where she didn’t sleep much anymore, waking as early as four in the morning. Worried they wouldn’t eat well outside, she prepared food early on.
Not only had she made porridge, but she had also boiled water, rolled out noodles, and kept them ready to cook at any ti.
First, she ladled out so porridge for the two: "Nibble on so side dishes to fill your stomach a bit while I cook the noodles for you."
Soon after, two steaming bowls of chicken noodle soup were ready. After eating, the two finally felt so relief and retreated to the backyard to rest.
After showering, as they lay in bed, Lu Yichen wrapped his arms around her: "Were you scared?"
Luo Qiao nestled into his arms, finding a comfortable position: "Life is so fragile in the face of disasters. We must take this as a lesson—always drive safely, never drink and drive, and never drive after drinking."
Lu Yichen kissed her forehead: "Alright, we’ll both take it to heart. Sleep now. We have work to do in the morning."
No doubt about it—this multi-car pile-up had been caused by drivers from two of the collision vehicles who were drinking before driving, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
The two must have been too exhausted, as they quickly fell asleep. Less than three hours later, the alarm rang.
Lu Yichen first dropped Luo Qiao off at the hospital before driving to the departnt.
The investigation made the accident’s responsibility clear: driving aggressively while drunk had led to the chain collision of multiple vehicles.
More than twenty people suffered severe injuries, including three in critical condition. Minor injuries were handled at nearby facilities, bringing the total number of affected victims to over thirty. The nature of the incident was exceptionally egregious.
