Old Master Gu laughed, “With these, I’ll be able to drink for a long ti. After having your tea, I find other teas just don’t compare.”
Gu Qianru called several children over to eat the shrimp and stead egg, “Qiaoqiao, Yipin sent over a lot of big shrimp today, they’re really fresh.”

As Gu Qianru watched the sisters-in-law headed to the kitchen together, she said to Old Master Gu, “Dad, don’t they get along well?”
Old Master Gu watched the backs of his granddaughters-in-law as they walked away, “When you’re good, I’m good, then everyone is good. Xiaoxin is blunt and protective, Qiaoqiao is attentive and generous – they’re both good.”
Auntie Tang had already prepared most things. Luo Qiao ca in to take over the shrimp ball soup Auntie Tang was making, while Wang Xiaoxin peeled garlic to prepare a dipping sauce.
Auntie Tang rembered sothing and, seeing that no one was outside, said in a low voice, “The neighbors had a fight yesterday; they nearly went at it again this morning. I’m not sure if we’ll be able to have a peaceful New Year’s Eve dinner.”
As soon as Luo Qiao heard this, her first concern was that sothing might happen to Yiting in the evening.
Wang Xiaoxin, being gossipy, asked, “Auntie Tang, tell us, what happened?”
Without stopping her hands, Auntie Tang said, “It’s all because of Fu Lanhua. She’s such a headache. She already split the household apart, to each their own, but with the New Year coming up, both her eldest daughter-in-law and the second one bought a lot of New Year goods.
When they split up the family, Kong Cunlai had said they should still celebrate the New Year together. But it’s not like the New Year is only about dinner on New Year’s Eve. Fu Lanhua, coveting the New Year goods the daughters-in-law brought, indirectly suggested they should bring the goods over and eat together on New Year’s Eve. None of the daughters-in-law were fools; they just said they’d bring sothing over at that ti.
But this morning, Fu Lanhua’s careless older brother ca over crying poor, saying that they can’t even afford to eat pure wheat flour dumplings during the New Year. Fu Lanhua, god knows what she was thinking, went to her eldest and second sons to ask for things.
The daughters-in-law wouldn’t stand for that. The eldest daughter-in-law said it’s only right for a son to support his parents, but never heard of a nephew maintaining his entire uncle’s household. The second daughter-in-law agreed, saying we can barely support our own children, let alone the uncle’s family – it’s outrageous.
One word led to another, and they started arguing. It wasn’t until Kong Cunlai got back from outside that the quarrel was halted. Otherwise, they might have ended up fighting.”
Wang Xiaoxin continued peeling garlic, glancing outside, “Luckily our younger aunt moved out to live on her own, or she’d have to endure so much.”
Luo Qiao nodded, “We should still prepare a al for Yiting and Xiangrui tonight, just in case.”
Just as they finished talking, they heard Lu Yiting calling from outside, “Big Sister, Second Sister, Xiangrui and I are heading back.”

Lu Yiting didn’t understand what was going on with her sisters-in-law, but Auntie Tang ca out, pulled her aside, and whispered to her about what had happened yesterday and today, also telling her to be careful.
