Chapter 720: Chapter 676: Distorting The Truth_1
“Stop!”
Those three years Nie Zhenbang spent training in the Xibei Military Region were not for naught. At this mont, his roar, full of rage and energy, coupled with the authoritative deanor he’d developed in his high-ranking position, had an indescribable, intimidating power.
“Huh? What’s going on today? Which damn pussy let you out? Pengcheng City is getting ssier each day. Even any damn tomcat and puppy dares to pop out.” Wen Long didn’t take Nie Zhenbang and the others seriously at all.
A while ago, after being knocked down by Xiong Taishun, Wen Long’s buddies rushed out from the nightclub. They hadn’t seen Wen Long for a while. As soon as they ca out, they saw that Wen Long was overthrown by soone. Naturally, they all rushed up and began punching and kicking Xiong Taishun.
However, Wen Long didn’t realize that his remark completely offended Nie Zhenbang. If there were children of prominent families from Jingcheng here, they would know. Nie third-brother of Jingcheng was gentle and never bullied others with his power. However, there are two things he can’t tolerate. One is causing trouble for his family. The other is the use of insulting words.
Everybody knows about the lineage of Nie third-brother. Frankly speaking, he was an illegitimate child. However, no one in Jingcheng dared to say this in front of him.
...
At this mont, Wen Long’s words undoubtedly hit Nie Zhenbang’s nerve. Looking towards Wen Long, there was a chilling flash in his eyes and an icy murderous intent directed solely at Wen Long.
Such a frosty gaze made Wen Long uncomfortable, as if he were being stared at by a wolf, like he had already beco a lump of flesh and blood.
Nie Zhenbang, at this mont, said word by word, “You better rember this. You’ll have to pay for what you said today.”
With that, Nie Zhenbang’s gaze turned to Xiong Taishun who was lying on the ground. At this mont, Xiong Taishun was curled upon the ground, holding his head in his hands. Bent at the knees, they t his abdon; this posture was an unconscious protective response.
His exposed skin was bruised in various places. There was blood around his eyes, nose and the corner of his mouth. Nie Zhenbang squatted down, his hands constantly moving and applying pressure onto Xiong Taishun’s body.
That was ergency aid learned in the military. After an overall check, Nie Zhenbang breathed a sigh of relief. Xiong Taishun looked in a pretty bad state, but fortunately, there were no internal injuries.
However, for Nie Zhenbang, it was as if he had been slapped in the face. Standing up, he turned to Huang Xudong, “Xudong, get a taxi right now and take Little Xiong to the hospital for his injuries.”
At this mont, police sirens wailed and lights flashed. Two police cars were parked by the roadside, one was a dostically produced Great Wall SUV police car, and the other was a Buick police car. They pulled over, one in front and one behind.
From the cars, four or five police officers in uniform erged and ca straight this way. The crowd, who had been watching, had already spontaneously made way.
In the eyes of the common people, police authority is remarkably powerful.
Leading them was a middle-aged police officer, around forty, of dium build, most notably with a large belly. He surveyed the scene with a solemn expression. “What’s going on? Why the fight?” he sternly asked.
At this ti, a taxi had already been hailed by the employees of the Public Utility Bureau, and Luo Quan and another colleague were about to take the injured Xiong Taishun away to the hospital.
Unexpectedly, the middle-aged police officer said, “What are you doing? Trying to run?”
Upon hearing this, Nie Zhenbang’s face grew even more grim as he addressed the officer, “Comrade, we are the injured party’s colleagues and friends. Does us being here make a difference? You’ve seen the victim’s condition. If his life is in danger, can you bear the responsibility?”
The middle-aged police officer, being an experienced law enforcer, was able to assess the situation – minor injuries, nothing life-threatening. Upon hearing Nie Zhenbang’s statents, he responded disapprovingly, “Am I to bear the responsibility? He’s not going to die from these superficial injuries. Right now, the situation at the scene still isn’t clear, and it’s yet to be determined who’s right and who’s wrong. If the injured party runs away, can you take responsibility? The police don’t need your instructions on how to handle cases.”
Upon hearing this, Nie Zhenbang smiled ironically. His gaze turned cold as he looked at the police officer and said, “Good. I’d like to see how the police in Pengcheng City handle cases.”
With that, Nie Zhenbang turned to Xiong Taishun, “Taishun, how are you doing? Can you hang on?”
At this mont, Xiong Taishun nodded slightly without saying a word. His chest and abdon still hurt a lot, to the point he couldn’t really talk. However, he knew his own situation pretty well – he definitely wasn’t going to die.
The middle-aged policeman did not take another look at them. Instead, he turned to Wen Long and his gang and asked, “Did you guys call the cops?”
Such cooperation was not new to them. Although they knew each other well, they had to act like they were not too familiar under such circumstances. This way, no one could fault them for anything. If they appeared too close right off the bat, wouldn’t it look suspicious to others? Where would the fairness and justice in handling the case be?
Wen Long, who had done this kind of thing more than once, nodded and said, “Yes, I called the police. Officer, I parked my car on the side of the road and was about to go to a nightclub. Then I rembered that I left my wallet in the car. As I stepped out, I saw this man ssing around my car’s license plate fra and even taking a few photos with his phone. I suspect that these people are part of a well-organized and preditated criminal gang. They probably scout the location first, then commit the theft.”
“You’re falsely accusing ! Wen Long, don’t think I don’t know. You were the one who called this cop. His surna is Qian. You guys are in this together!” This unexpected accusation infuriated Xiong Taishun, who voiced out what he had overheard earlier.
At this response, the middle-aged police officer’s face darkened. He turned to Xiong Taishun and said, “Handcuff them. I suspect your involvent in the recent car theft cases in Pengcheng City. Take them all back to the station for investigation.”
Nie Zhenbang was not intimidated by such administrative jargon. He stepped forward and said to the middle-aged man, “Officer, it’s within your power to arrest us and make accusations. But, you should show us your badge, right? You can’t just claim that you’re a cop. These days, even military officers have fake IDs, let alone police.”
If the progeny of the prominent families in Jingcheng saw Nie Zhenbang in this state, they would definitely be crying out, wondering which poor soul had gotten on his bad side.
Those familiar with Nie Zhenbang knew that if he directly flared up and started hitting people or acting disdainful, it ant the situation was not that severe. But if Nie Zhen moved to deride and ridicule, it indicated that he was ready to play hardball.
Even in Jingcheng, where powerful families like the Li family resided, hadn’t Guohua, the direct grandson of the Li family, fallen victim to Nie Zhen’s gas?
At the side, Huang Xudong had a pretty good idea of Nie Zhenbang’s intentions when he saw that he hadn’t disclosed his identity. He turned to Li Jupeng and said, “Secretary Li, you’ll have to handle this matter. I’m worried about the director getting hard. Can you contact soone familiar in Pengcheng City?”
Li Jupeng cogitated carefully, then had a flash of insight. He whispered, “Director Nie’s second brother, Nie Jiamin, used to be a soldier in the Jiangzhou Military District. I think we should contact him.”
With that, Li Jupeng nodded and said, “Director Huang, I’ll leave the director in your care. I’ll be leaving first.”
With all eyes on Nie Zhenbang amidst the sizeable crowd, no one noticed Li Jupeng’s departure.
At this mont, the middle-aged policeman laughed. The look in his eyes as he stared at Nie Zhenbang was filled with gloom. He then took out his police badge and showed it to Nie Zhenbang, saying, “Of course you can see my badge. It’s part of the procedure.”
Nie Zhenbang briefly scanned the rest of the details on the badge but morized the na, Qian Dongmao. It seed that Xiong Taishun was right: this so-called ‘Old Qian’ was indeed part of Wen Long’s gang.
After returning the badge to Qian Dongmao, Nie Zhenbang spoke impassively, “Officer Qian, even so, on what grounds do you claim that we are related to the car theft cases? What reason do you have to suspect us? You can eat your food without thinking, but you can’t talk without thinking. If you slander us like this, we can sue you.”
Nie Zhenbang’s resilience was beyond Qian Dongmao’s expectation. In his many years of service, few dared to confront him. At that mont, Qian Dongmao felt that he had t a tough nut to crack. Just as he was about to say sothing—
Nie Zhenbang continued, “Officer Qian, it’s not right to listen to only one side of the story. Can I also say that this guy nad Wen Long was intentionally causing trouble and attacked my companion? There must be several assault cases in a city, right? So, can I take it that you would consider them suspects in several assault cases and want to take them back for investigation?”
Nie Zhenbang’s words were not loud, but they were clear. To Qian Dongmao, they sounded like a piercing noise.
Such words indeed hinted at so bias. Just as Qian Dongmao was about to respond, a slightly younger middle-aged policeman walked up, laughed, and said, “These are all hypothetical. We’re not quarrelling like shrews on the street; we’re handling a case. Even in ordinary public security cases, I think both parties involved have to go to the police station and provide a written record, don’t they?”
