With the addition of twenty or so mbers of the Secret Sect to the fight, the situation on the battlefield underwent an overwhelming shift.
Many mbers of the Baiyue Clan fell almost simultaneously.
"Poison Elder, why haven’t you used your poison yet? If this continues, all our people will be wiped out!" Anger burned in Xi Chentian as he leaped to Poison Elder’s side and yelled at him.
At such a crucial ti, Poison Elder was still concerned about his precious container. With all the clansn dead, cultivating his cursed insects would be pointless. Would he expect to seize the world as a lone general without an army and enjoy its fruits all by himself?
Startled by the roar, Poison Elder reluctantly unleashed his poisons towards the mbers of the Secret Sect, Wuqing, and her group.
Gu Qingli, who had been watching Poison Elder intently, called Da Bai back after the Secret Sect arrived. She mounted its back, ready to sprinkle the Antidote Powder at any mont.
This Antidote Powder was a byproduct from her process of making the Detoxification Pill; she had collected the leftover powder for future use.
Although it wasn’t as potent as the Detoxification Pill, it was still effective against common poisons. However, it wouldn’t work on incredibly strong ones.
Only her Detoxification Pill could neutralize such potent toxins.
She had previously considered using poison but worried that if Poison Elder also dispersed his, the interaction between the two substances could result in a mutated, unknown poison. Such a mutation could lead to a new toxin that would take effect very quickly. In particular, the combination of her self-made poison and Poison Elder’s could cause death within a few breaths. In such a chaotic situation, forget a few breaths; even twenty breaths might not be enough ti for her people to take the Detoxification Pill before they succumbed to the poison. Therefore, she would not resort to poison unless absolutely necessary.
However, she could still use itching powder and muscle relaxer powder. It would an her own people would suffer sowhat, but it was a small price to pay.
At that mont, seeing Poison Elder unleash his poison, she imdiately ordered Da Bai to rush into the crowd, and she spread the Antidote Powder with utmost speed.
The combatants, completely unaware, had been poisoned and then swiftly detoxified.
The fierce battle continued, deadlocked.
Seeing his poison neutralized so easily, Poison Elder’s beard trembled with rage. He wanted to capture Gu Qingli, but Da Bai, slippery as an eel, prevented him from getting close.
Xi Chentian, observing from the side that Poison Elder’s poison had no effect, knew the situation was dire and urgently called out.
"Retreat!"
If they didn’t retreat now, they would be annihilated.
Upon hearing the order, the Baiyue Clan mbers, ignoring their fallen kinsn on the ground, executed a feint against their opponents and then hastily fled.
"Give no chase to a desperate enemy!" Mr. Xiao yelled from behind.
The Secret Sect mbers did not pursue. Instead, they returned to bind the wounded Baiyue Clan mbers on the ground who had not yet died.
"Miss!" Wuqing and the three other won flew back to Gu Qingli’s side.
"Let’s rest here for a while, then we’ll talk." Gu Qingli signaled them to sit down. They all had injuries of varying degrees, and she imdiately began applying dicine and bandages.
"Rest a bit, eat sothing," Gu Qingli said, finishing Wuyou’s bandages last and admiring the neat butterfly bow she had tied.
"Yes, thank you, Miss," the four won chorused.
Gu Qingli waved her hand and then went to bandage the wounds of the other Secret Sect mbers.
「Within the Baiyue Clan」
Xi Chentian left a portion of his n to guard the village entrance. He then sent people to take the injured to the Master for treatnt before returning to the clan’s main hall. This was the Council Hall, the place where important clan matters were usually discussed.
Currently, in the Council Hall, Xi Chentian, Poison Elder, the First Elder, Second Elder, and Fourth Elder sat around a table.
The Third Elder had led a dozen or so people out today, and not a single one had returned.
"Poison Elder, why didn’t you use that thing?" Xi Chentian asked, fuming.
This old codger! Every ti I ask him for that thing, it’s as if I’m asking for his life. This ti, the clan suffered such heavy losses, and he was still reluctant to use it. The cursed insect eggs on the clan’s arrows hadn’t even used any of the clan’s resources. They were cultivated by his daughter, Xi Chenqing. She had caught all these poisonous insects in the mountains and nurtured them herself.
A sharp glint flashed in Poison Elder’s murky eyes. His sinister old gaze fixed on Xi Chentian, making the latter’s hair stand on end.
"All you think about is that thing! Is that thing so easy to cultivate? Do you have any idea how long it takes to nurture a King of cursed insects?"
Poison Elder held up a finger and continued, "Ten years! And even then, success isn’t guaranteed. This place isn’t suitable for cursed insects to survive. It’s already quite an achievent to have cultivated one King of cursed insects in all these years. The hundred or so cursed insect eggs that have been laid are still in the nurturing phase. Otherwise, do you think those people outside would stand a chance against the cursed insects? A single one could take their lives!"
"Now is not the ti to bicker about this," the First Elder quickly interjected to smooth things over. "Poison Elder’s intention was likely that poison alone would be enough to handle them. Who could have known so many highly skilled martial artists would appear, including a woman whose abilities with poison and antidotes rival Poison Elder’s?"
If he didn’t get them to cool down, the two of them would end up fighting. This external threat hadn’t been resolved, and now internal disputes were erupting! Plus, they still had to face the clansn and provide an explanation. With so many deaths, they had to give everyone an account.
Xi Chentian and Poison Elder listened and indeed cald down.
Xi Chentian asked, "First Elder, do you have any solutions?"
The First Elder said, "Poison is useless. We can only resort to the cursed insects..."
The First Elder explained his idea and then waited for everyone’s approval.
As they discussed in the Council Hall, chaos reigned where the Master was treating the injured.
Dozens of people were wounded, and the Master was too overwheld to handle them all alone, so he had to call Xi Chenyu to help.
At this ti, Xiao Yunjing, who was at Xi Chenyu’s house, also woke up. Upon opening his eyes, he still saw that sa sweet and lovely face.
"Xi Chenqing?" Xiao Yunjing called out her na.
"Yes, Brother Yunjing has such a good mory! You rembered Chenqing’s na right away." Xi Chenqing smiled sweetly. Seeing Xiao Yunjing’s attitude, she was in a good mood. Her cursed insect had taken effect.
Xiao Yunjing no longer looked at her with disdain; his eyes were filled with affection for her.
Xiao Yunjing smiled and said, "Rembering a na isn’t that difficult."
Xi Chenqing cupped her face with her hands, looked at him, and asked, "Does Brother Yunjing rember what Chenqing told you before?"
"What is it?" Xiao Yunjing asked in high spirits. Looking at Xi Chenqing’s adorable face, he felt a sudden urge to pinch her cheek.
He reached out to do so, but his hand stopped halfway, and he suddenly retracted it.
Sothing about this felt wrong. That’s right, he was a married man; he had a wife!
Xiao Yunjing’s brow furrowed as mories flickered through his mind.
"What’s wrong, Brother Yunjing?" Xi Chenqing asked, noticing his expression had changed.
"Nothing," Xiao Yunjing said gently, snapping back to reality. He knew the girl before him had saved his life, so he felt grateful to her, even fond of her.
