Chapter 473 Part 1
"Ling Yi"
"Brother—"
"Master Ling Yi—" Soone’s voice, an unknown trembling fear shattered in an instant, ti seed to stop, roars like thunder, as if in the realm of Asura Hell, everyone froze.
Master Ling Yi was dead?
People watched with their own eyes as Master Ling Yi’s head fell, no earth-shattering battle, no cries to heaven or hell. At the mont when Master Ling Yi’s head dropped, what people witnessed more was disbelief.
How could it be, the shining glory of Qiandao Temple, the beacon that illuminated every disciple of the master, just like that... dead?
Shock, fear, unwillingness, even unprecedented doubt about their proud and honorable identities.
"Brother—" Master Chang Yu was about to rush forward but was held back by Bao Xing. Although he had just arrived, he could see that there were not many left now who could take charge. If this one rushed out to die, Qiandao Temple would be completely scattered.
"Mage, quickly take the people and escape—" Bao Xing made an imdiate decision, pulling Master Chang Yu to flee. But before he could finish speaking, a dark red wave of heat and fire swept through, instantly engulfing the nearest disciples of Qiandao Temple, without even a chance to scream.
"Run—"
"Run for it—" The ones who reacted had no confidence left, just fear and panic.
Countless monstrosities leaped out and pounced towards the defenseless crowd, like hungry wolves upon sheep, screams and wails engulfed the camp in an instant.
"Deputy General Bao, this won’t work—" The soldiers of the Northwest Camp finally realized and had already ford a close-knit group, using their sparse shields to form a tight circle, holding back the monsters’ attacks.
The monsters preferred the panicking and fleeing disciples of Qiandao Temple, whose bodies carried the heaven and earth energy absorbed by the temple, emitting an enticing aroma, a deadly temptation for those beasts.
"Retreat—" Bao Xing gritted his teeth. Their group of more than ten people, who had also saved two mages sitting paralyzed on the ground, now slowly retreated towards the outskirts of the camp. Other temporary groups of soldiers, imitating Bao Xing’s side, also banded together. However, this seed like futile resistance to the increasingly frenzied monsters.
"Ah—" The cries of agony were incessant. Bao Xing watched his soldiers fall one after another, anxious in his heart, yet he commanded calmly. As people kept falling, others filled the gaps, and the few mages within the circle started to co to their senses, setting up a Formation above their heads.
"General, General, we need to find a place with water," said Qin Liang who had just been pulled in, his hat long gone, his Magic Artifact lost during a stumble. That Magic Artifact was of little use; Qin Liang couldn’t care less about anything else. He had intended to run, but his own legs couldn’t outrun those beast-like marauding creatures.
"Water?" Bao Xing took a look at the mage who was speaking, recognizing one with a clear head. "Why?"
"These creatures are fiery by nature and naturally afraid of water—" Qin Liang said, stating the obvious. Bao Xing sowhat believed him and imdiately shoved the item in his hands towards Qin Liang.
"Here—"
Qin Liang froze, and his outstretched hand, intending to catch it, fumbled in panic. The Golden Whip, Master Ling Yi’s Magic Artifact, the Golden Whip preserved at Qiandao Temple, he, Qin Liang, hesitated for no more than a second before directly taking hold of it, his entire arm trembling with excitent.
"What are you dawdling for, move—" Bao Xing imdiately roared, "There is a water ditch less than a mile behind us." He had thought Qin Liang was sharp-witted, yet here he was freezing up unexpectedly.
"Thud thud thud—" Monsters continued pounding the Formation shield above their heads. Although the Formation was barely holding together, riddled with holes, the surrounding area was full of prey, scattering like grains of sand in the wind, so their speed had increased significantly.
"Over there—" Qin Liang imdiately spotted the frozen river, and glancing at the several monsters still unwilling to leave the area above their heads, an idea suddenly sprang to his mind.
With the Golden Whip in hand, Qin Liang felt much braver. The circling monsters seed to be looking for the perfect opportunity to break through their Formation and swallow them whole. At this point, Qin Liang could no longer afford to hesitate. Death was certain either way, how could he know if there was a chance for survival without trying?
Qin Liang tid it perfectly as a monster dove down; he suddenly withdrew the Formation. As the other mages were puzzled and about to exclaim in surprise, Qin Liang wielded the Golden Whip in his hand, instantly ensnaring a monster. The creature imdiately let out a sharp, agonizing scream. With a mighty swing, Qin Liang flung the monster away. When it hit the ice, the flas on it did not extinguish but blazed even more fiercely. However, at a visibly quick rate, it turned into a puff of smoke, and a perfectly round hole, neither too big nor too small, was lted into the ice, revealing the lake water beneath.
Bao Xing imdiately grasped Qin Liang’s idea and cast him an approving look. He swiftly ordered all the n to follow Qin Liang’s directives.
Having dealt with one monster, Qin Liang gained so confidence. He squeezed the Golden Whip in his hand and pointed at the next target.
After a brief period of adjustnt, the well-trained soldiers picked up speed. The next monster dropped quickly onto the ice, enlarging the hole considerably.
However, no one dared to relax, and across the vast area of the camp, there were fewer and fewer living figures on the move.
General Ling, who had rushed over, beheld such a wreckage of despair. Everyone on horseback did not dare to dismount, but it was already too late to retreat.
The monsters, having absorbed the remaining mages’ energy, were now ferociously tearing at the soldiers of the Northwest Camp on the ground. Amid the wailing, the ground was soaked with fresh sprays of blood and scattered with limbs, and the screams were enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
"General, Deputy General Bao—" General Ling’s trusted aide suddenly pointed towards a few moving silhouettes in the distance and shouted loudly.
General Ling imdiately looked in that direction.
"Save the people—" Without any further concern, General Ling spurred his horse with a flick of the whip, charging towards Bao Xing’s location, and soon saw several soldiers fleeing around Bao Xing, not far from him.
"General, General—" Several soldiers saw General Ling first, which greatly boosted their morale. General Ling glanced at the monsters above, finding that there were fewer of them on this side, as if the monsters were fearful of sothing.
"Gather everyone here—" General Ling shouted loudly, and soldiers went back to summon others. In no ti, more and more soldiers were rallying towards the riverside. Their spirits were rising, and having understood Qin Liang’s tactic, they eagerly took their turns at the task. They managed to get another monster into the water, erupting in cheers of triumph.
