Mavis struggled even harder when she saw the journalist approaching, "Martin, let go of , I must clear Director Locke’s na, I can’t let that woman continue to malign him!"
Seeing the journalists already surrounding them, Martin set his mind, using brute force to shove Mavis into the car. Before she could struggle, he locked the door, jumped into the car himself, and started it up quickly, zooming out of the encirclent as the journalists’ caras pointed at them.
After shaking off the reporters, Martin looked at Mavis, whose eyes were red, "Sis, calm down. The lady isn’t the type of person you think she is. Things haven’t been clarified yet, let’s not jump to conclusions..."
"What type isn’t she? Isn’t what she’s done today clear enough? She wants to ruin Director Locke, could it be Director Locke is bewitched by her, and you too?"
"Mavis!" Martin’s voice took on an unprecedented severity.
Mavis was stopped by her brother’s shout, first stunned, then realizing what she had said, she lowered her head apologetically, but still felt disgruntled towards Mary Scott.
Martin, while driving, looked at his sister, thinking of her years of dedication beside Director Locke, sighed softly, "Let’s leave it at that, take care of yourself."
Mavis didn’t expect her brother to still side with Mary Scott at this mont, and the phrase ’take care of yourself’ made her feel utterly embarrassed, "Let out of the car!"
Saying this, Mavis tried to claw at the door.
This thoroughly angered Martin, who looked at the struggling figure in the rearview mirror, "Mavis Jonah, do you rember your profession? Have you looked at the lady’s approach from a professional PR manager’s perspective? If you have, you should know the lady’s approach isn’t really maligning Director Locke, you..."
At this point, Martin paused, his tone softened a bit, "Don’t mix too much personal emotion into your work, otherwise even I can’t protect you."
Mavis was taken aback by her brother’s words, her hand hovering on the door handle froze, her mouth opened as if to defend herself, but even to her, what she was about to say sounded like an excuse, and she finally lowered her eyes, feeling dejected.
Martin felt a twinge of guilt but knew that continuing like this wouldn’t be good for anyone. So things are better said sooner than later, "You should be able to see that Director Locke loves Mary Scott, even more than himself, he might allow others to hurt him but will never allow anyone to hurt his wife. If you insist on this attitude towards her, the only outco is you’ll leave."
After saying that, Martin no longer paid attention to his sister, nor did he care if she had listened, he just drove towards the company.
At the company, they avoided the reporters and went directly from the parking lot to the company’s private elevator.
In the elevator, the siblings remained silent.
Though Martin had consoled his sister earlier by saying Mary Scott wasn’t really maligning David Locke, he himself was busy pursuing people and hadn’t seen the follow-up content of the live interview, so he wasn’t sure if Mary Scott was actually maligning David Locke.
So now Martin was very nervous.
As for Mavis, she had taken in her brother’s words, knowing that if she continued to be biased against Mary Scott, she risked being shunned by David Locke, possibly not even able to stay on at the company.
But understanding is one thing, deep down, Mavis held Mary Scott in contempt.
Originally an obscure, barely-known actress, her rise to a popular young female star was thanks to Director Locke, even though she had no real talent. The previous scandal about her background had already cost Director Locke millions to clear her na.
And the result? She wasn’t grateful, and now she’s adding to Director Locke’s troubles.
What’s this if not maligning, claiming Director Locke not only insulted won but also n, even elders and children? If this isn’t creating negative publicity for Director Locke, then what is?
Moreover, with her years in public relations, how could she not see the terrible consequences of Mary Scott’s reckless words?
Mavis, having been in the entertainnt industry for years, had seen too many actors and actresses with empty bravado and no substance; Mary Scott was just another among them.
She believed that eventually, Director Locke would see Mary Scott’s true colors, at which point there would be no need for her to deliberately expose her.
With these thoughts, Mavis adjusted her mood and followed her brother into the company, ready to apologize to Director Locke for her earlier impulsiveness.
But as soon as they entered, they realized sothing was off.
When they left, the whole company had a heavy atmosphere, everyone seed like they were facing doomsday, and many were even readying themselves for the company’s bankruptcy and getting laid off.
But now, why was everyone smiling with joy?
"What happened? Why aren’t you busy working, instead having tea? Where is Director Locke?" Mavis asked one of the subordinates with a discontented face.
The subordinate, upon seeing it was Mavis, bead with happiness, "Mavis, you’re finally back. Does this an we can leave on ti today?"
"The issue isn’t resolved, why are you talking about leaving!" Mavis scolded lightly, confused.
The subordinate realized that Mavis might not be aware yet, "Mavis, have you checked the trending topics? Go have a look."
Mavis frowned, but behind her, Martin already opened the trending page.
After watching a bit, Martin realized the issue, he raised his head in amazent, "Is this real?"
Mavis, annoyed, asked, "What is real? Can you speak clearly!"
"The lady’s thod worked," Martin said to Mavis lightly as he put away his phone, heading towards David Locke’s office.
Completely puzzled, Mavis watched her brother’s disappearing figure and grabbed the staff mber from before, "What exactly happened?"
"The public opinion on Director Locke has shifted!" the staff mber quickly replied.
Only then did Mavis rember, she took out her phone from her bag, and opened the trending topics, seeing seven or eight items related to Mary Scott and David Locke.
The first one was questioning what Mary Scott had done to David Locke, filled with bizarre comnts, with the most popular being soone betting three packs of spicy strips that Mary Scott surely beat up David Locke.
But a bunch of opposing opinions said Mary Scott appeared so gentle, how could she possibly hit Director Locke?
But one hot comnt had been pushed to the top," I’m usually gentle, virtuous, sensible, and cute, but only if my husband behaves, otherwise, a frying pan it is!"
This comnt was followed by a bunch of laughter and agreent, others even started a topic on whether to hit upon discovering a husband’s premarital indiscretions.
The comnts were varied, but one thing was clear, these discussions uniformly redirected David Locke’s alleged infidelity to his premarital flirtations.
There were also quite a few n stepping in to defend David Locke, claiming everyone has a past.
Although this situation couldn’t be said to completely rehabilitate David Locke’s image, it was certainly better than the previous overwhelming criticism.
Finishing this, Mavis frowned and clicked on #David Locke Scolding People#.
The first one was a screenshot of Mary Scott’s interview by a blogger, "He constantly scolded people on set. Scolded won, scolded n, scolded kids, scolded elders, scolded the utility man, even scolded the props..."
"I think people saying he insults won for real are overestimating him. He doesn’t just insult won, everything and everyone not eting his standards is subjected to insults."
"I heard he once scolded a popular male actor, questioning if he trained his chest so big to beco a wet nurse at the palace..."
"In any case, cherish your life and stay away from Director Locke."
"..."
As Mavis read, she beca increasingly alard; just from these things Mary Scott said, who knows how much criticism she’s brought to Director Locke. How could she malign David Locke this way?
Brimming with rage, Mavis Jonah clicked on the comnts section. The top comnt read, "Oh my god, I have a ntal image now. What kind of temperantal director persona is this? Indeed, geniuses are never perfect!"
"Did he really make Mary Scott cry on set? Oh god, how did he manage to win her back later?"
"To the person above, ’fighting one thing with another’ — maybe Mary Scott cried while hitting Director Locke and subdued him that way?"
"Hahaha, crying while hitting? Mary Scott is a little fairy, can you all stop making her sound like a shrew?"
"Damn, a petite fiery starlet paired with a temperantal, flamboyant director; is there a novel about this? I’d be the first to read it!"
"Who the hell can endure such a director? Does having a bit of talent give him the right to insult people? Why? I think one is pervy, and the other is despicable..."
"To be honest, if getting scolded by him could make a top-tier star, I’d take it!"
"I would too. 1."
" 1!"
"..."
Mavis Jonah’s anger gradually turned into surprise as she browsed the comnts, her face full of disbelief. Wasn’t Mary Scott trying to sar David Locke? Why was the comnt section heading in this direction!
Filled with question marks, she suddenly rembered the Twitter post that had redirected David Locke’s video into a feminist incident. She wanted to see the latest comnts, but the mont she opened the first tweet, there was a heated argunt going on beneath it.
Utterly perplexed, Mavis Jonah watched for a while before she understood: these feminist fans went to attack David Locke but ended up arguing with the Best Actor’s fans because the feminists couldn’t win against them.
How did the Best Actor get dragged into this?
And what is this "nanny" thing about?
Certainly curious, Mavis Jonah opened another trending topic #WhoIsTheNanny and as she read more, she was shocked to find out that Mary Scott had revealed the star scolded by David Locke was none other than the Best Actor. Is she out to ruin Director Locke?
Mavis Jonah’s face broke out in a cold sweat montarily, but what she saw was interesting. Though many Best Actor fans were cursing David Locke, bystanders were all making jokes, and with the Best Actor fans’ involvent, the feminist fans were too occupied to continue attacking David Locke.
This led to a new developnt where, despite the amount of news regarding David Locke and Mary Scott, the crisis which once threatened him was resolved.
The first being infidelity; guided by Mary Scott, it turned into a story about Director Locke’s premarital flings, and she even clarified that she had nothing going on with him.
Had Mary Scott plainly explained it, netizens would think she was defending David Locke, suffering silently to clear him. But for so reason, after her explanation, she disdainfully stated that "do not trust man".
This made everyone question the affair between David Locke and Miss Saxton, yet not suspect that Mary Scott was trying to clean David Locke’s slate.
Moreover, it diverted the issue into a national discourse on poking fun at n, which in turn diluted the essence of the scandal.
The toughest issue, however, had been the allegations of insulting won.
With won’s empowernt becoming increasingly popular over the past two years, any minor involvent in won’s topics easily escalated into gender issues.
Mary Scott cleverly guided the allegations of insulting won into insulting n, the elderly, children, even props, eventually proving that David Locke was rely dedicated to his work.
This changed the nature of the issue entirely.
Mavis Jonah continued watching, her expression extrely complex. She couldn’t tell if this was all Mary Scott’s careful arrangent or a fluke, but it must be admitted that her interview was extraordinarily successful.
Even more so than what their professional PR team could do.
"Mavis, you must be at ease now, right?" a staff mber beside her softly asked after seeing that she’d read enough.
Mavis Jonah gave a complicated nod and then headed towards David Locke’s office.
David Locke just finished reading online comnts and dia reports, his mouth opened slightly, not knowing what to say.
Martin Jonah, unrestrained by such concerns, imdiately praised, "The madam is truly brilliant, now as soon as the video cos back up, all those rumors can be cleared."
David Locke nodded, his feelings exceptionally complicated.
At this mont, Mavis Jonah knocked and entered, "Director Locke, I’m sorry."
David Locke glanced at Mavis Jonah’s attitude, gave a slight nod, and didn’t speak much.
Mavis Jonah, seeing David Locke’s response, felt uneasy, "Director Locke, I was too impulsive this ti; punish as you see fit."
"What do you think of Mary’s PR results this ti?" David Locke disregarded Mavis Jonah’s words and posed his own question.
Mavis Jonah’s expression soured. As a veteran PR manager, Mavis felt her pride injured, having been defeated by Mary Scott’s so-called random stroke of luck. She pursed her lips, "Miss Scott’s random strike..."
"Random strike? You think it was random?" David Locke abruptly interrupted her before she could finish.
Mavis Jonah was taken aback, wondering if it wasn’t random after all.
"Haven’t you rested for a while? Take three days off, and if you still think it was random when you co back, you can vacate the PR manager position," David Locke spoke with cold authority.
Mavis Jonah turned pale, "Director Locke..."
"I don’t want to repeat myself," David Locke gave Mavis no room for argunt.
Mavis Jonah left the office feeling extrely frustrated, an unintelligible murmur escaping her lips as she exited.
After she left, Martin Jonah curiously asked, "Director Locke, you an the madam’s live interview was thoroughly planned?"
"Not just planned, she even graciously hired a PR team and used ghostwriters," David Locke chuckled, his face revealing pride in her actions.
Martin was stunned, initially holding a similar view as his sister; he thought Mary’s interview was rely a fluke. But to think it was a calculated move involving a PR team and ghostwriters, sothing he hadn’t caught on to.
David Locke seed to sense Martin Jonah’s confusion, a hint of amusent in his eyes, "That’s why I said, she’s generously exceptional this ti."
Martin felt a wave of sha, realizing that Mavis Jonah’s suspension wasn’t uncalled for. As a professional PR person, she failed to see the massive operation Mary Scott conducted, sharing the sa belief as him, a layman, that it was a re coincidence.
Nevertheless, it was a testant to Mary Scott’s successful public relations strategy.
However, wouldn’t this disrupt Director Locke’s plans? Martin looked at David Locke with concern, "Director Locke, what about those behind the scenes..."
"Don’t worry, they won’t easily give up."
"Then what about the madam... won’t she be in danger?"
Before Martin Jonah could finish his question, David Locke had already stood up putting on his coat; Martin trailed behind, "Director Locke, where are you off to?"
"To seek justice," David Locke replied.
