Chapter 96: Chapter 97: Afraid of You Being Bullied
Xia Zhaohe’s face darkened, and her voice was low and hoarse as she said, “The Commandery Princess only wants to know why Brother An would save you.”
Brother An had never been one to ddle in others’ affairs, let alone save a woman, which filled her eyes with hostility. No one could take Brother An away from her.
“Because Young Master Pei’s leg ailnt needs my treatnt,” Shao He said with an extrely calm tone. “Didn’t I tell the Commandery Princess last ti? Young Master Pei has been here all along for the treatnt of his ailnt. If sothing were to happen to , it might be difficult to find soone else to treat his leg.”
Her words held no falsehood. Aside from herself, no one else would be able to cure Pei Huaian’s illness. Not to ntion how difficult it was to eradicate the cold poison, the act of acupuncture itself posed a challenge.
Xia Zhaohe’s eyes were firmly fixed on her, attempting to discern sothing from her face; but there was nothing but calmness, no sign of panic or cover-up, suggesting that her words were probably true.
“Can you really cure Brother An’s leg ailnt?” Xia Zhaohe’s attitude softened a bit this ti.
...
“Mhm.” Shao He responded in a mild tone.
Upon hearing this, Xia Zhaohe placed her hands on the table and leaned in to ask, “I wonder what the condition of Brother An’s leg is? Is there a chance it can be fully treated? And how long will it take?”
“It’s quite serious and will require long-term acupuncture,” Shao He replied ambiguously.
Xia Zhaohe arrogantly lifted her head, “Look at all the commonplace dicine ingredients in this shop. Since you’re treating Brother An, naturally the best ingredients are required. If you need any precious dicinal materials, you can co to .”
Shao He chuckled softly to herself, truly ignorant. While the precious dicine materials are indeed rare, the common ones also have their value and are not useless.
Just as with people, there are talents in all professions, and everyone has their necessary place in the world.
“Many thanks, Commandery Princess.” Shao He didn’t want to invite trouble and verbally agreed, following the adage of not refusing what is freely offered.
Xia Zhaohe was about to ask further questions when suddenly she heard a familiar voice from behind.
“What is the Princess Ninghe doing here?”
Xia Zhaohe turned excitedly, seeing the cor, she happily got up and ran over.
“Brother An, what brings you here?”
“Naturally, I am here for treatnt. Why? Are you sick as well?” Pei Huaian glanced at Shao He from the corner of his eye and seeing that she remained calm, he breathed a sigh of relief.
It was fortunate that he had arrived in ti after receiving the news, or who knows what earth-shattering remarks Xia Zhaohe might have made.
Xia Zhaohe didn’t pick up on the sarcasm in his words, her face flushed with bashfulness, “Brother An, are you showing concern for ?”
Ah Mo, who was standing behind, couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth. He thought his master had changed, but it seed he was only different towards Doctor Shao and the sa as ever towards everyone else.
Pei Huaian didn’t answer her question and didn’t even spare her an extra glance. Instead, he approached Shao He and upon seeing she was alright, he turned and asked,”Why are you here?”
Xia Zhaohe ran up to Pei Huaian’s side,” Brother An, I was just…”
“Regardless of the reason, one should not disturb others during a consultation. If Prince Jing hears of this, you’re likely to be confined again,” Pei Huaian kindly reminded her.
Pei Huaian knew Xia Zhaohe’s temper very well. She’s not the kind to suffer a loss and is often overbearing with those around her; he was concerned that Shao He might be bullied.
Xia Zhaohe naturally didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be with Huaian and dragged her feet, reluctant to leave.
“Brother An, you’ll help explain, right?” Xia Zhaohe tugged at Pei Huaian’s sleeve and whined with a pout.
“If you leave promptly now, I might consider explaining on your behalf,” Pei Huaian said as he withdrew his sleeve from her grasp, his tone cold.
Xia Zhaohe left reluctantly, her mouth turned down, “Understood.”
After saying so, she left, looking back three tis with each step she took.
Shao He was about to go to the back yard to fetch so dicinal herbs to dry in the sun, and Pei Huaian naturally followed her.
Seeing the busy person, Pei Huaian expressed his concern,”Why don’t you rest for a few more days?”
“I’m fine,” Shao He took out the dicinal herbs to sun.
Pei Huaian dissatisfied with her answer, furrowed his brows and said,”You shouldn’t ignore your own health. You were extrely weak that day and should be properly recuperating.”
Shao He, hearing the concern in his voice, smiled gently,”That day, it was rely due to prolonged hunger that led to dizziness and weakness. I am fine now.”
Pei Huaian suddenly fell silent, recalling a promise he had made not to visit Anji Hall to seek Shao He, spoke guiltily, “I’m sorry for today’s sudden intrusion. I should have looked for you at your ho for treatnt. I ca here in haste fearing that you might be bullied by the Princess Ninghe.”
Ward by his words, Shao He wasn’t angry but rather gave a tender smile, speaking softly,”It’s alright, acupuncture works the sa regardless of location.”
The sunlight filtered through the trees, casting mottled shadows, forming rows on the ground. The two stood there, gazing at each other, with a faint affection swirling in their eyes. Sothing between them seed to lt away…
After Shao He had perford the acupuncture again, looking into those deep black eyes, she always felt a sense of familiarity. She might have thought it was to conceal a birthmark, but ever since learning of Pei Huaian’s identity, she felt as though she had seen him sowhere before.
“Why do you always wear a mask? Is it really to cover a birthmark, or to hide your identity?” Shao He finally couldn’t restrain the question in her heart and asked.
