Chapter 477: Chapter 479: Understanding the Situation in the City
Shao He descended from the carriage and called out loudly to the figure above, “Luo Cheng!”
The sound made the person who was about to turn away and leave halt, and he joyfully looked down.
“Doctor Shao?”
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, and upon confirming the identity of the person below, he imdiately said to the guard beside him, “What are you waiting for? Hurry up and open the city gate, the person outside is the Divine Doctor!”
The guard hurriedly ordered the city gate to be opened.
Shao He quickly made her way to the top of the city wall and smiled at Luo Cheng as she said, “Long ti no see.”
Seeing the familiar face in front of him, Luo Cheng was overwheld with excitent, his eyes moist, and he choked up, “Doctor Shao, what brings you here?”
“Where is Pei Huaian?”
Luo Cheng quickly explained everything that had happened after their arrival in Jingzhou.
Pei Hanze and Shao He listened as they walked inside, followed closely by Qingxia and the others.
“Doctor Shao, this is…” Luo Cheng noticed Pei Hanze by her side.
“This is Prince Chen.”
“So it is the Prince, my apologies for the oversight earlier, I hope the Prince will forgive my offense,” Luo Cheng said.
Pei Hanze gestured with his hand for him not to worry too much and then asked, “How are the citizens inside the city faring now?”
At the ntion of this, Luo Cheng’s expression turned very awkward, “Not very well.”
Shao He slightly furrowed her brows, having already anticipated this outco.
“What specifically is the situation?”
Luo Cheng sighed, “The food we have found is not plentiful, and there is also a severe shortage of various dicinal herbs, and the Fifth Prince is nowhere to be found.”
“How many people in the city are affected by the plague?”
“The number of plague-affected people in Jingzhou City is only a few dozen, and it has not spread, but countless citizens have been used as test subjects for dicines,” Luo Cheng sighed.
It was disheartening to see that the once bustling Jingzhou had beco so bleak, and the warm-hearted citizens were being treated as dicine test subjects, a truly despicable act.
“Regarding the dicines and food, I will figure sothing out. As for Pei Huaian…”
“I suspect the Fifth Prince might have gone to Naless Village, which is a peculiar place, and probably many there are afflicted with the plague,” Luo Cheng continued.
“Naless Village, yes, father is in Naless Village,” the young man behind suddenly rushed forward, grabbing Shao He’s hand excitedly.
“We will rest here tonight and head to Naless Village tomorrow,” Pei Hanze said.
Shao He nodded in agreent, taking the opportunity to learn more about the condition of the citizens.
In one afternoon, Shao He did not rest for a mont, constantly diagnosing the citizens, comforting the sick, and writing prescriptions.
For so patients with minor ailnts, Shao He directly applied acupuncture, curing years of hemiplegia and stroke.
Grateful citizens knelt down to thank her, and even the Imperial Physicians could not help but praise her.
“I never expected that a young lady could possess such superb dical skills, truly making us feel ashad,” said an elderly Imperial Physician.
Shao He modestly smiled and replied, “You flatter too much; my dical skills are not nearly as good as those of the Imperial Physicians.”
Upon hearing this, everyone nodded in agreent and showed her even more respect.
As the light of day gradually faded, Shao He, depleted of energy, appeared sowhat feeble.
Pei Hanze, concerned, supported her and asked, “Are you alright?”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
She shook her head, pushed Pei Hanze away, and stood up to continue.
Her form wobbled, and she almost fell, but Pei Hanze quickly swept her up horizontally and carried her to a room.
Shao He’s face was pale, and her forehead was covered in sweat, clearly extrely fatigued.
“If you continue like this, not to ntion finding Pei Huaian, you are likely to lose your life here,” Pei Hanze scolded irritably.
“Huaian…” Shao He murmured to herself.
Pei Huaian, where on earth have you gone?
“You should rest for a while, I will go get so food for you,” Pei Hanze said and then went out to instruct the kitchen to cook porridge.
Outside, Luo Cheng was discussing the dicinal materials needed for dical treatnt, and seeing Pei Hanze co out, he approached and said, “Prince, Doctor Shao…”
“She is exhausted, let her sleep,” Pei Hanze interrupted him.
Hearing Pei Hanze say this, Luo Cheng said no more.
As night quietly fell, Pei Hanze, carrying a bowl of well-simred porridge, entered the room and approached the bed.
Seeing Shao He on the bed, her hair was spread out, covering her face, obscuring her features, revealing only her smooth forehead and elegant nose bridge, her skin fine and delicate, as if it could break with a touch, her dark eyes frad by long, thick, and curled eyelashes.
He stared at her for a while, slowly reached out his hand in mid-air, then stopped, no, she was not her.
Shao He slowly opened her eyes and saw the person by the bed propping herself up to sit, snapping Pei Hanze back to reality.
“Awake?”
“Yes,” Shao He nodded.
“Drink it while it’s warm, it’ll sll if it cools,” Pei Hanze’s gentle voice rang in her ears.
Shao He reached out for it, the porridge was the flavor she loved to drink usually, but now she had no appetite at all.
Shao He glanced at him and slowly took the spoon, drinking.
Pei Hanze gazed at her intently, fearing he might miss any detail.
Once the bowl of porridge was finished, Shao He said, “Thank you, Prince.”
“It doesn’t sound all that sincere,” the corner of Pei Hanze’s mouth lifted, his eyes twinkling with an unusual light.
