Chapter 476: Chapter 478: The Suddenly Appearing Young Man
The youth, sowhat afraid, stepped forward and handed over the water bottle.
“Thank you.”
He said shyly, not daring to look up at Shao He.
“There is water in the creek, so why did you snatch my water bottle to drink?” Shao He asked the question he had in mind.
The youth nervously fiddled with the hem of his clothes nonstop and stamred, “Not clean, all not clean.”
“Are you saying that the water in this creek isn’t clean?”
Qingxia interjected, “But the water in our bottles also cos from the creek, doesn’t it?”
“That’s right, the water here is from the creek; I think he’s clearly lying,” Qing Shan said sharply.
Qing Shan was filled with caution towards this suddenly erging youth.
Shao He stood up and looked at the youth with cold eyes, demanding sternly, “Who are you exactly, and why are you here at my house?”
Hearing Shao He’s question, Qingxia also stared warily at the youth nad Xiao Quan, silently observing their surroundings.
This place was unfamiliar, and she felt that the youth nad Xiao Quan must have had a purpose in coming here.
The youth, having been questioned so directly, turned pale with fright and stuttered, “I… I just want to go ho.”
Hearing the youth’s explanation, everyone frowned.
“Where is your ho?” Qing Shan huffed coldly.
The youth looked back at a place not far away and said despondently, “In Jingzhou.”
“But I can’t go back anymore, my father told to run, my mother too, and there are people constantly chasing , I’m so scared.”
Saying so, the youth, gripped by fear, hugged his arms tightly and kept looking back, his eyes filled with terror.
Upon hearing that he was from Jingzhou, Shao He was initially stunned, then leaping off the carriage, she approached him to ask, “What is happening in Jingzhou now, why do you need to run, and who are chasing you?”
“The general said no survivors should be left,” the youth said sowhat nervously.
Shao He finally noticed sothing amiss about him; the youth seed a bit ntally slow, not severely but evidently slow-witted.
“Miss, you better stay away from him for now, this person’s identity is unknown, we need to verify it first,” Qing Shan pulled both of them back.
“Yes, if he truly is from Jingzhou, we need to inspect him thoroughly, what if he carries so plague?”
Hearing their words, the youth’s face showed panic, and he hastily said, “Don’t! Don’t catch , please don’t catch .”
“First tell , what exactly is happening in Jingzhou? Who are chasing you? And why are you fleeing?”
Listening to her words, the youth’s eyes flickered with complex emotions, and finally, he slowly closed his eyes and murmured softly, “I don’t know, I don’t rember, only that my father and mother were forcing to escape.”
Shao He furrowed her brows and continued to press, “Then do you recognize Fifth Prince Pei Huaian?”
“Him?” The youth’s eyes widened: “He… who is he?”
“He is the one sent by the Emperor to save you,” Shao He explained.
Hearing her words, confusion flashed across the youth’s face, then he shook his head, “I don’t rember, my head is hurting badly, it’s killing …”
Seeing this, Shao He and the others exchanged glances, and after a mont of contemplation, Shao He said, “He doesn’t seem to have the plague; rather, he seems a bit ntally slow.”
Then she had the youth sit down on a rock and checked his pulse, but found nothing unusual.
“Who is this person?” Pei Hanze returned and asked upon seeing the additional youth.
Shao He briefly explained what had happened, and Pei Hanze stroked his chin, saying, “Did you say he escaped from the city?”
“Probably,” Shao He was not very sure, since the man was sowhat unintelligent and his words could not all be believed.
“How did your inquiries go on your end?”
Pei Hanze shook his head, “The city gates are sealed; I don’t know what the situation inside is.”
It seed the situation was more complicated than he had imagined; thankfully, he had co along, otherwise how could Shao He handle it alone.
“What should we do now?” Qingxia asked anxiously.
“Let’s go, first try to enter the city,” Pei Hanze said with a faint smile.
Now, having no other choice, they could only try to see if they would be able to enter the city.
“What should we do with this youth?” Shao He asked, looking at the person clenching tightly onto her sleeve.
“Since he is from Jingzhou City, let’s bring him along,” Pei Hanze looked up at the youth and after confirming he had no Inner Strength, he reassured Shao He to bring him along.
However, when they approached the city gate, they were stopped by the patrolling guards on the wall.
“Who are you? Jingzhou is currently under lockdown; no one is allowed to enter,” a guard in armor, clutching a spear, stared at them coldly.
“We are ordered to enter Jingzhou City,” Pei Hanze bowed and declared loudly.
The guard, taken aback and unaware of their origins, then asked, “On whose authority?”
“On the Emperor’s authority,” Pei Hanze answered.
Upon hearing it was by the Emperor’s command, the guard’s attitude imdiately changed and he was about to let them through when Luo Cheng intervened, saying, “Nonsense, it is the Fifth Prince who was commanded by His Majesty the Emperor to co to Jingzhou; who exactly are you?”
Pei Hanze fumbled in his robe for a while before he rembered that he had forgotten to ask for the token.
