Chapter 594: Republic Divorced Wife Cannon Fodder (8)
Indeed, although Luo Jun’s words infuriated Huo Mu beyond asure—she would have liked nothing better than to imdiately throw Luo Jun out—she had no choice but to bear it.
She could only harden her face and instruct a maid beside her, “Go and fetch the marriage contract between the Fifth Young Master and Lady Luo.”
After that, she looked coldly at Luo Jun, “I would ask that Miss Luo speak cautiously; our Huo Mansion is not so lowly household that covets a daughter-in-law’s dowry.”
Though she wanted to keep Luo Ning, the main reason was to find the key and combination to the safe deposit box at the bank.
But she couldn’t deny that she was also sowhat reluctant to give up Luo Ning’s substantial dowry.
The Huo Family was now large in size and business, and as such, the expenses were considerable.
Quality in clothing and living had to be the best to reflect the status of the Commander Mansion.
Luo Ning’s dowry totaled two or three hundred thousand silver coins and included several well-located shops, which were now under the Huo Family’s operation. Huo Mu was unwilling to let them go.
But feeling reluctant was one thing, and being called out for it was another.
The Huo Family needed to maintain its dignity; they couldn’t possibly be seen as desiring their daughter-in-law’s dowry.
If she hesitated any longer, given Luo Jun’s shrewish nature, it was plausible she might take the issue to the President himself.
Her husband and the President were already at odds lately; this would undoubtedly be handing them a weapon against her.
Therefore, she could only suppress her anger and agree to dissolve the marriage at the governnt office now.
She thought to herself that she would wait for Luo Ning to co begging to her.
Emboldened by Luo Jun now, she would surely regret it later.
After all, Huo Mu knew how much Luo Ning liked her son, and by having Hai Yun “guide” her daily, there wouldn’t co a day she wouldn’t return.
Even if the marriage was annulled, she would still be able to coax her back.
People outside would only say that Luo Ning was shaless for insisting on being associated with the Huo Family.
Once she returned, Huo Mu would make sure Luo Ning regretted it.
Luo Jun smiled, “I knew the Huo Family was above coveting a forr daughter-in-law’s dowry. You could have just been straightforward.”
She pulled Luo Ning along, “Little sister, let’s go!”
She was worried her little sister might waver and suddenly regret it, so a swift resolution was best.
Huo Mu completely loathed Luo Jun now.
But hearing that the latter was recently in frequent contact with the President’s secretary, she temporarily refrained from acting against her, lest she give the brazen woman a taste of her own dicine.
Luo Ning clenched her sister’s hand and stood up.
“Sister, since my engagent to the Young Master Huo is dissolved, there is no need for my dowry to remain at the Huo Mansion.”
“Otherwise, I fear others might say the Huo Family is chasing after my dowry under pretense.”
“Please have soone go to the back courtyard and move my dowry to your residence.”
Luo Ning said this as she pulled out a list of her dowry items from another sleeve, “This is the list; just move things according to it.”
She had compiled this list the previous night, so there could be no mistakes.
As for the belongings previously spent, they were freely given by her previous self, and naturally, she had no grounds to demand them from the Huo Family.
In the future, however, she would make the Huo Family repay her double.
The faces of Huo Mu and the others all turned unsightly, yet they couldn’t utter any words of objection or ridicule.
Wouldn’t that make them the covetous people the two sisters accused them of being?
Huo Mu was inwardly bleeding, but she managed to say, “Indeed, it’s best to verify and move it quickly to prevent gossip.”
Luo Jun smiled and said, “Madam Huo is correct. I’ll have soone tally up the dowry and move it right away.”
Then she instructed her people to follow Xue Liu to the back courtyard to move the dowry.
Earlier, Luo Ning had already instructed Xue Liu to move the items according to the list and ignore everything else.
After all, the truly valuable and worthwhile items had been kept by her in the spatial storage.
All this ti, Hai Yun, who had completely failed to foresee the turn of events, suddenly ca to his senses as he watched Luo Ning and the others walk out.
Imdiately following, she lifted her foot to chase after, but Luo Ning asked her to wait in the back courtyard.
Hai Yun didn’t want to leave the Huo Mansion at all, yet she knew that now was not the ti to persuade Luo Ning.
Having received a subtle glance from Huo Mu, she agreed to stay.
Luo Ning and Huo Sichen proceeded to the governnt office together.
In this period, the governnt office had already declined, and not long after, the departnt would be abolished.
The two staff mbers who were chatting saw Commander Huo enter and were utterly surprised, quickly standing up and greeting him respectfully with smiles.
Huo Sichen got straight to the point.
Regarding Commander Huo and Lady Luo’s intention to annul their marriage, the clerks were not surprised.
After all, Beicheng had been abuzz with news that, upon his return to the country, Commander Huo desired to divorce for true love, a break from the feudal dregs of the past.
To brown-nose Huo Sichen, the clerks quickly processed their papers.
Thus, the marriage certificate Luo Ning and Huo Sichen held beca void.
Upon completing the matter and reaching the entrance of the governnt office,
Huo Sichen tore the two marriage certificates into pieces right in front of Luo Ning and threw them on the ground.
“From now on, we have nothing to do with each other.”
He paused, then said, “Tomorrow, I will place an announcent of our divorce in the newspaper.”
Many passersby secretly glanced over.
Luo Ning knew he would surely place the announcent, and Ran Yinyin’s editor brother would use word gas to push most of the bla onto her.
For instance, suggesting she bore no children after several years of marriage.
Hah, how could there be children without consummation?
Luo Ning curved her lips, “Fine, announcing the divorce in the newspaper is trendy among you modern Westernized folks. I respect your choice.”
Just when Huo Sichen thought Luo Ning was softening her stance to defer to him, a hint of smugness in his eyes,
Luo Ning pulled out the divorce paper she had prepared from her sleeve.
Then, with a sleek motion and without rcy, she slapped it against Huo Sichen’s chest.
“As what you see and speak of as a traditional feudal woman, I shall use our old feudal ways to end our relationship.”
“Huo Sichen, this divorce paper is for you.”
“Not only did you deceive into marriage, but you also engaged in affairs and kept a mistress while failing to fulfill any husbandly duties, becoming a traitor instead.”
“So today, Luo Ning gives you this divorce paper. From now on, our lives will proceed separately, without any connection.”
Seeing the bystanders widen their eyes in disbelief and stop to watch,
Luo Ning further curved her lips, looked up at Huo Sichen, who wore an equally incredulous expression, and raised her chin.
She chuckled lightly, “But here, I must thank you for never consummating the marriage. Otherwise, I’d truly be disgusted, feeling tainted.”
“Now that we’re parting ways, you might have dirtied yourself with countless won behind my back, but I remain pure and untainted. I really ought to thank you, Fifth Young Master Huo, for the grace of your touch!”
After speaking, Luo Ning took Luo Jun’s arm, who stood stunned, and with her head held high and chest out, she turned and walked away without a mont’s hesitation.
As if she had finally shaken off sothing filthy.
When Huo Sichen recovered from his shock, he picked up the divorce paper that was slapped against his chest, neatly trapped between his suit and shirt without falling to the ground, and took a look.
It indeed was a divorce paper, accusing him of marriage fraud and a failure to et marital obligations, hence, dismissed.
Huo Sichen was so furious that his face twisted, he gritted his teeth, “Luo Ning, you’ve really got guts.”
Then he realized that many onlookers had stopped to witness the spectacle.
He quickly got into the car with a darkened face and ordered the driver to head back to the Huo Mansion.
How dared Luo Ning act like that, tearing his reputation to shreds in public—a sheer act of audacity.
Yet on the street, he truly couldn’t do anything to Luo Ning; he could only return ho, seething with resentnt.
