After talking with Jonathan, Eveline walked into her room and freshened up. Just as she stepped out of the bathroom, her phone rang.
Eveline furrowed her brows when she saw Ella's na on the screen. Without hesitation, she answered.
"Mom called," Ella said, her words montarily freezing Eveline in place.
"And?" Eveline prompted.
"And she apologized for being rude," Ella replied. Eveline let out a breath and walked over to sit on the bed.
"We all knew she was putting on an act for Jedrick. There's no way Aunt Mischelle would ever turn her back on you," Eveline stated matter-of-factly.
"Yes, that's true. But do you know how he got her to marry him? He used her trauma against her. He threatened her," Ella revealed.
She hadn't been able to ask more before Mischelle abruptly ended the call. But one thing was certain...Jedrick had the audacity to anger her even more than he already had.
"So, what's next? How do we get Aunt Mischelle out of this? And how do we figure out what Jedrick is up to?" Eveline asked.
Ella thought for a mont. She had hoped to speak with her mother more, but Mischelle's sudden departure had left her with more questions than answers.
"I don't think I can ask Mom anything. She's at her weakest when threatened. Jedrick managed to get her on his side with a lie, and if I ask her to keep an eye on him, I doubt she'll be able to find anything."
Eveline nodded in agreent. "But why would he marry your mother? What's his purpose?" she asked.
Ella had no clue. The more she tried to piece it together, the more tangled her thoughts beca.
The two continued talking for so ti before hanging up.
Eveline tossed her phone aside and lay on the bed, her mind blank, her eyes staring absentmindedly at the ceiling.
"Waiting for ?" A voice suddenly broke the silence, catching her attention. Without a word, she shifted to make room for him.
"It's better sleeping while snuggling you than staying awake the whole night," Gabriel said with a smile, pulling Eveline closer.
His fingers traced the edge of her arm as she lay beside him, her head resting on his chest, her arm draped around his torso.
"Dad told about Jedrick's secret property—the one where he allows no one," she muttered.
She looked up at him and continued, "Not even Rick knew about it."
Gabriel pondered her words before saying sothing that caught her completely off guard.
"The lady we t this morning, she was moved out of the hospital right after we left," Gabriel said.
Eveline blinked at him, still processing his words.
"But that's not the surprising part," he continued. "The doctor also ntioned that while examining her, they found bruises on her hands and legs. He doubts she got them on her own."
As much as Eveline had been unsettled by the morning's incident, Gabriel couldn't shake it off either. He knew it wasn't their responsibility to interfere in soone else's life, yet sothing about the old woman's condition lingered in his mind.
"You think she's been-" Eveline's voice caught in her throat, unable to finish the sentence. A lump ford as unease settled over her. She didn't want to assu the worst, but sothing about the old lady pulled her in, making it impossible to ignore.
Eveline silently lay next to Gabriel. She had no clue what she should be thinking. She knew it wasn't their place to invade soone's life; however, she found it hard to forget about the lady that sowhat felt familiar to her.

anwhile, inside Sherlyn's apartnt, Kaden lay on the bed, his gaze fixed on his lady love as she worked.
Sherlyn was so imrsed in the case file in her hands that she barely spared him a glance.
"How long are you going to ignore , babe?" Kaden finally asked, climbing off the bed.
After proposing to Sherlyn, Kaden had temporarily moved into her place, only leaving when work called.
They had successfully blocked many of Jedrick's illegal activities, and ever since then, he had hardly made a move that could affect their lives. The past few days had been peaceful.
Luke had also recovered and was handling matters from the base, encouraging Kaden to take a break and focus on his love life.
However, no matter how much he wanted to spend ti with his woman, she remained busy, dedicating herself to her patients rather than him.
"I told you to go to sleep, Kaden. It'll still take so ti before I can co to bed," Sherlyn said, her eyes still fixed on the file.
Kaden furrowed his brows and joined her, his eyes shifting to the file in her hands.
"Whose case papers are these?" he asked curiously.
"Valeria Lee—a new Alzheir's patient. I'm just going through her past dical reports. Her family wants to handle her case, but I'm not sure if I can. She needs dical treatnt more than psychological therapy," Sherlyn muttered.
The woman's case history was a ss, and Sherlyn wondered if she was truly ready to take it on.
She had never doubted her abilities, but when an elderly woman...an eighty-year-old patient was entrusted to her care, she hesitated.
"An aging brain is like a child's. It needs to be handled with tenderness. dication can deteriorate brain cells even further, especially when the person already forgets almost everything they did throughout the day," she explained.
"Then what's your decision? Are you ready to take in the patient's case?" Kaden asked, watching Sherlyn heaving out a sigh.
"I will. Let's see how far I can help her," she said with a faint smile and watched Kaden gently running his fingers through her hair.
Mischelle regretted not being able to talk with Ella any longer when she noticed a small cara fixed inside the room, monitoring her every move.
She had always known Jedrick was a tyrant, but installing caras inside her room was too much. Now, she felt trapped and suffocated, constantly under watch.
