Hungry.

Wen Yun took a shower and usually fell asleep the mont she hit the pillow, but with her stomach empty, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

Since her mother left, Wen Yun’s als had been irregular, and she developed stomach pain because of it. If she went to bed late, she had to eat sothing, or else her stomach felt unbearably hungry.

She was already exhausted from working overti today, but when she got ho, she couldn’t eat the bread she had saved for herself, and now her whole body felt uncomfortable, her stomach especially.

She rolled back and forth in bed.

’Knock knock.’

The door suddenly knocked, and Wen Yun, who was feeling unwell, was startled.

"Wen Yun, are you feeling unwell?"

Passing by Wen Yun’s room on his way back, ng Yanzhi felt he heard faint noises from inside, and felt as if Wen Yun might be in discomfort.

"No."

Wen Yun replied weakly, adding in her heart: Because I’m hungry.

ng Yanzhi still couldn’t shake his concern upon hearing her reply, as her voice sounded weak.

He said, "I’m coming in."

ng Yanzhi tried the door, but found it wouldn’t turn; it must be locked from the inside.

"What’s going on?"

Thinking ng Yanzhi had sothing to do, Wen Yun struggled to open the door, completely forgetting the earlier awkwardness.

"Why do you look so pale?"

Upon seeing Wen Yun, ng Yanzhi noticed her face was incredibly pale, without a hint of color.

"No."

Wen Yun shook her head, leaning against the door, asked, "Do you need sothing?"

"You’re not looking well. I’ll call a doctor for you." ng Yanzhi felt she was just trying to hold on, so he pulled out his phone to call the family doctor.

Yet, before he made the call, Wen Yun snatched the phone away.

"Don’t call, I’m really okay, just hungry, unbearably hungry."

Wen Yun hurriedly snatched his phone, disregarding her embarrassnt.

ng Yanzhi: "..."

Fifteen minutes later.

Wen Yun looked at the appealing bowl of egg noodles and couldn’t help but glance at ng Yanzhi, then at the noodles, seemingly wondering how he could cook noodles.

"Didn’t you say you were starving? Hurry and eat."

ng Yanzhi wiped his hands clean and sat down across from her.

Wen Yun didn’t nitpick; under the circumstances of being so hungry, having a bowl of steaming egg noodles was happiness in itself.

Perhaps it was her illusion, but this bowl of egg noodles tasted exceptionally good, so much so that Wen Yun drank all the soup.

"Delicious."

Wen Yun patted her warm belly, feeling her stomach all cozy and full, all her discomfort gone as if it disappeared in an instant, now brimming with energy.

"Of course, I made it myself, how could it not be good?" ng Yanzhi said coolly, looking proud.

"Impressive."

Wen Yun continued to praise, "I didn’t expect you could cook such delicious noodles."

"Hmm."

ng Yanzhi had also eaten a big bowl of noodles, looking at the uncleaned bowls and chopsticks.

Wen Yun imdiately got up, saying, "You made the noodles, I’ll wash the bowls."

After Wen Yun finished washing the bowls and ca out, ng Yanzhi was still sitting in the living room. Wen Yun pondered whether ng Yanzhi had sothing else to say. As she passed through the living room, she casually greeted him before returning to her room to rest.

ng Yanzhi sat in the empty living room, watching Wen Yun’s departing figure, silently wondering if, as a couple who hadn’t seen each other for half a year, there was really nothing to talk about.

...

The next day, when ng Yanzhi woke up, he waited for Wen Yun. But when he got to the living room, he found a note left on the dining table.

"Thank you for the noodles last night. I made porridge, it’s in the rice cooker."

A line of delicate handwriting, followed by a smiley face.

Who needs porridge?

ng Yanzhi tucked the note into his pocket, his feet unconsciously heading towards the kitchen.

In the rice cooker, there was plain porridge, with a dish of pickled vegetables beside it?

Though ng Yanzhi said he wouldn’t eat, he automatically served himself porridge. With the pickled vegetables, the porridge tasted pretty good.

Night.

"Mr. ng, where to?" The assistant asked as he drove.

"Huayuan Small Building."

ng Yanzhi replied, pondering: Didn’t Grandpa want him to co ho?

He would go ho; now Grandpa would surely not be upset?

When he arrived ho at eight o’clock, the house at Huayuan Small Building was dark. He furrowed his brows and asked, "What ti does she get off work?"

"Uh... "

The assistant looked blankly at ng Yanzhi, completely missing who he was referring to.

"Wen Yun." ng Yanzhi impatiently ntioned her na again.

"Madam likely has to work overti."

The assistant wasn’t quite sure either.

ng Yanzhi pursed his lips and said nothing, and after returning ho gave instructions, "Send over so food in a bit."

The assistant nodded in agreent, wanting to ask what to send, but ng Yanzhi had already gone upstairs, leaving the assistant in a dilemma. Finally, he rembered ng Yanzhi’s usual favorites and ordered a bunch.

Soon, the food was delivered from restaurants ng Yanzhi frequented, the aroma wafting through.

When ng Yanzhi saw this, he couldn’t help but twitch his mouth: "Did I not eat dinner tonight?"

Seeing this, the assistant realized he ordered the wrong thing and quickly said, "Mr. ng, what if I get sothing else?"

"No need."

ng Yanzhi glanced at the dishes. Though they were als, they were suitable for night and could be eaten as a late-night snack.

Especially that plate of stir-fried noodles; it tasted quite nice, with just the right amount of chili for him.

Ten o’clock.

When Wen Yun returned, she saw ng Yanzhi sitting in the dining room, preparing to eat.

"Would you like so?"

ng Yanzhi glanced at her, offering.

"Sure."

Wen Yun was hungry, looking at the aromatic, steaming dishes, her mouth watered instantly. As she ate, she asked, "You’re not so busy that you haven’t eaten dinner by this ti, right?"

"Yeah."

ng Yanzhi replied vaguely.

Wen Yun thought it was true and imdiately said, "Your dinner timing is too irregular; you need to eat three regular als a day, or else, you’ll know how uncomfortable stomach problems are..."

After speaking, Wen Yun belatedly realized she wasn’t talking with a friend but with her nominal husband.

Wen Yun paused for a mont and quickly added, "Well, I’m a nurse, perhaps I often say things like that."

"I have three regular als, but you, on the other hand, feel uncomfortable when hungry at night; what’s wrong with you?" ng Yanzhi retorted, "As a nurse, why do you frequently finish work so late?"

"Because I’ve been..." hungry since childhood.

Wen Yun’s latter part of the sentence faded out automatically. She changed her response, "Recently, the departnt’s been too busy, so I’ve been working overti. But starting tomorrow, I’ll have a normal shift rotation."
