So he really was here on a date with a woman?

lissa sat in the seat the waiter had specially arranged for her, gritting her teeth so hard she could barely suppress the urge to storm over and confront him right then and there.

But a sliver of rationality held her back. Wait a little longer.

Maybe they’re just ordinary friends.

After taking a few deep breaths, she lifted the nu to shield her face and stole a glance in Vicente’s direction.

Fortunately, plenty of won in the restaurant were eyeing him, so no one paid her any attention.

At the table—

"About Fanny’s matter," Camilla poured tea with practiced elegance, her movents fluid and poised.

"I haven’t had the chance to thank you properly, Mr. Vincent."

After all, this was a foreign country.

Without Vicente’s connections to people familiar with the area, their rescue of Fanny would have taken much longer.

This gratitude couldn’t be skipped.

Though Vicente was in a foul mood, he maintained perfect composure in front of Camilla.

Narrowing his eyes slightly, he replied in a gentle tone, "President Calvin paid handsoly for my services.

I was just doing my job."

Camilla had heard Taylor ntion it before.

Vicente’s underground influence was far more extensive than they had imagined.

A man like him certainly wasn’t short on money.

"Money can buy service, but only if Mr. Vincent is willing to take the job.

Otherwise, no amount of wealth would make a difference."

She poured tea for Vicente and placed the cup before him, then filled one for herself.

"Let toast you with tea instead of wine as a token of my gratitude.

I hope you won’t find it too humble, Mr. Vincent."

"You flatter , Mrs. Luther."

At this point, Vicente saw no reason to refuse further.

Vincent raised his cup, lightly clinking it against Camilla’s before taking a sip.

A toast?

Since when did Vicente have such a habit?

lissa watched their exchange, gritting her teeth in silent frustration.

Setting down his cup, Vicente lifted his gaze from beneath the brim of his cap and t Camilla’s eyes, his voice low and steady.

"You called here today about your grandfather’s matter, didn’t you, Mrs. Luther?"

"That’s right."

Camilla nodded, her bright eyes narrowing slightly, a glimr of anticipation flickering in their depths.

"Have you uncovered any leads about my grandfather, Mr. Vincent?"

Vicente lowered his gaze, carefully choosing his words before speaking slowly. "your grandpa’s identity...

I suspect it’s far from ordinary."

Camilla had braced herself for various possible responses from Vicente, but this wasn’t one of them.

Her clear, bright eyes flickered with surprise, and it took her a few seconds to process his words.

"What do you an by ’not ordinary’?" she pressed, her voice steady but her heart suspended midair—unable to rise or fall.

"Please explain, Mr. Vincent."

Vicente refilled both their teacups, taking a deliberate sip before continuing in a asured tone.

"After returning to the border, I mobilized considerable resources to track your grandpa’s movents.

Logically, since he appeared in our territory six months ago—though few have seen him, so have—it shouldn’t have been impossible to follow the trail, even if it was troubleso."

Vincent paused, his sharp brows furrowing slightly before he went on.

"But strangely, every ti the clues were on the verge of connecting, sothing unexpected would sever them again."

Camilla narrowed her eyes but remained silent, waiting for him to elaborate.

"Once or twice could be coincidence, but this pattern is too consistent to be accidental.

It’s as if an invisible force is deliberately obstructing the investigation into your grandpa’s whereabouts."

Vicente t her gaze, his expression darkening.

"I sent people to dig deeper, but they found no trace of whoever—or whatever—is behind this."

*Vincent just keeps talking.*

Though lissa couldn’t hear Vicente’s words, she could clearly see his lips moving incessantly.

Her fury simred, rising to a boiling point.

Weren’t you always the quiet type when we were together?

How co you can’t stop talking with soone else?

At this mont, lissa was like a balloon filled to the brim, just waiting for the slightest spark to explode.

That infuriating jerk!

Her anger flared uncontrollably, and she didn’t even notice the nu she had been using to hide her face slipping from her grasp.

Vicente suddenly sensed an intense gaze fixed on him.

His sharp brows furrowed slightly.

In an instant, his piercing dark eyes swept toward lissa’s direction.

Oh no!

lissa hadn’t expected Vicente to look over so abruptly. Her heart skipped a beat as she frantically grabbed the nu again, clumsily shielding herself behind it.

Luckily, just as Vicente’s gaze landed on her, a server carrying tea happened to step in front of lissa, blocking that keen scrutiny.

"Miss, your tea."

That was close. lissa exhaled in relief, forcing a small, grateful smile at the server who had appeared at just the right mont.

"Thank you."

Those two words carried more sincerity than she had ever mustered before.

"You’re welco," The waiter glanced at lissa, then stole a discreet look at Vicente before lowering his voice.

"Miss, from what I can see, your husband and that lady are just having a normal conversation—nothing intimate at all.

They might really just be friends.

Could it be a misunderstanding on your part?"

*What kind of friend makes him abandon and even consider not coming ho tonight?*

lissa scoffed inwardly but kept her thoughts to herself.

"I’m not sure.

Let’s see how it goes."

She took a sip of the warm tea, but it tasted oddly sour in her mouth.

The waiter sighed sympathetically.

"Miss, anger harms the body. No matter what, you should think about the baby in your belly."

*Baby in my belly?!*

lissa nearly choked on her tea, barely managing to swallow it at the last second.

Under the waiter’s concerned gaze, she blushed and nodded.

"Uh-huh, I understand.

Thank you."

*One lie really does lead to a thousand more.

Lying was no easy task—she’d have to do less of it from now on.

The waiter said nothing and walked away.

With the obstructing view now gone, lissa cautiously peeked in Vicente’s direction again, only to find his gaze fixed on the woman across from him, completely oblivious to her presence.

A wave of relief washed over her, but it was quickly replaced by a sour pang in her chest.

anwhile, on the other side of the room... Camilla’s eyes narrowed as she ticulously replayed Vicente’s words in her mind, her delicate features hardening with tension.

"The fact that you found nothing only proves how powerful and elusive this resistance is.

And based on that, you think my grandfather’s identity is... unusual?"

"Exactly," Vicente nodded, his gaze flickering briefly toward a distant figure before continuing. His tone was cool, analytical.

"The connections and influence I’ve built here may not be the absolute best, but they’re certainly not weak."

His voice dropped slightly, carrying a weight of certainty.

"Yet, whoever is behind this manages to cut off every lead before my people can reach it—without leaving a single trace.

In all of E Country, only two kinds of power could pull that off."

Camilla’s frosty eyes sharpened.

"Which two?"

"Either one of E Country’s top three elite families..."

Vicente paused, his expression turning graver.

"Or soone even higher up."

"The royal family of Eland," Vincent leaned back slightly against the sofa, his tone casual yet deliberate.

"Whichever faction among these made a move, it only proves that your grandpa is no ordinary man."

The three elite families.

The Eland royal family.

To her, Grandpa had always been just a simple physician.

How could he possibly be connected to any of this?

Camilla felt as though dense layers of fog had enveloped her vision—impenetrable, obscuring everything in a haze.
