Chapter 1595: Chapter 1597: Seeking Justice

“Cousin-in-law, can I co in?”

Nian Mutong hugged herself tightly, shrinking her neck, and looked at Chiang Xiao with a pitiful and pleading expression.

Chiang Xiao noticed that the huge gash on her clothes was already failing to cover her exposed skin. She frowned, stepped back, and let her enter the room.

“Thank you, cousin-in-law!” Nian Mutong quickly entered the door.

Chiang Xiao shut the door and turned to look at her. “Nian Mutong, what are you here for?”

“I ca to find you, but I ran into a thug ahead. He touched

and chased after . I ran and ran desperately, but I ended up falling into a ditch, which tore my clothes and soaked my pants.”

Nian Mutong sniffled and suddenly sneezed. “Achoo!”

“If soone hadn’t happened to pass by and pulled

out, chased off that man, I don’t know what could have happened. Achoo! Achoo!”

It was already late autumn in November, the weather was cold, and the wind chilled Nian Mutong until she trembled.

“Co inside first.”

Chiang Xiao’s face remained cold.

Although she didn’t particularly want to deal with Nian Mutong, seeing Mutong in such a state and encountering that kind of situation, Chiang Xiao couldn’t just send her away.

Nian Mutong followed her inside and breathed a small sigh of relief. She had actually feared that Chiang Xiao might turn her away.

Earlier, after she climbed out of the ditch, she discovered her money was gone. Maybe it fell while she was running, or got lost in the ditch. Her clothes were ruined, her pants soaked, and she didn’t have a single coin on her. If Chiang Xiao hadn’t let her in, she truly wouldn’t know what to do.

What if she encountered another thug?

Thankfully, even though Chiang Xiao seed indifferent, at least she wasn’t the type to abandon soone in need.

“The bathroom’s over there. Go clean up.” Chiang Xiao pointed towards the bathroom.

“Cousin-in-law, could I borrow a set of clothes? Don’t worry, I promise I’ll wash them thoroughly and return them to you!” Nian Mutong clasped her hands together in a pleading gesture.

Chiang Xiao gave her a glance, turned, and retrieved a set of old clothes she wasn’t planning to wear anymore and tossed them to her. Since arriving in the Capital City, she felt she had grown a bit more. These clothes were from last year; she wore them for a day and thought they were slightly short, intending to repurpose them as cleaning rags.

In any case, she wasn’t about to lend clothes she still wanted to wear to soone she didn’t like.

“Thank you, cousin-in-law.”

“Just call

by my na. I don’t really like being addressed like that.”

Nian Mutong bit her lip lightly. “Okay.”

In the bathroom, she quickly washed up and changed into Chiang Xiao’s clothes, which miraculously fit her perfectly.

Those clothes carried Chiang Xiao’s unique faint fragrance.

Normally, Nian Mutong disliked wearing other people’s clothes, especially Chiang Xiao’s. But now she had no choice.

She returned to the living room and sat across from Chiang Xiao.

“Alright, speak. Why are you looking for ?” Chiang Xiao asked coolly.

Nian Mutong sniffled again, realizing Chiang Xiao wasn’t planning to even pour her a cup of warm water. She licked her lips and said, “I’ve moved out of the ng Family ho for a long ti.”

“And then?”

“And then, living alone outside has been a bit frightening,” Nian Mutong sniffled again, feeling she was probably catching a cold. “My uncle keeps insisting I move back to the ng Family. He says that if Grandpa ng doesn’t let

return, he’ll co back and confront Grandpa ng to demand an explanation, asking whether the promises made back then still count or not. I know that whether or not I can move back to the ng Family ho isn’t up to Grandpa ng or my uncle—it depends on you.”
