Gaoliang County.

The smile on Jiang Wanru’s face was so faint it was almost invisible; her eyes revealed a deep pain.

Xu Nianhua withdrew her smile, not knowing why Jiang Wanru suddenly beca unhappy. Could it be so unhappy mories from Gaoliang County?

Beside her, Su Xi knew that her aunt must have rembered her cousin who passed away early.

"Aunt, you should quickly try the dried bayberry made by Nianhua’s mom, it’s sweet and sour, so delicious!" Su Xi took the opportunity to change the topic.

"Xiaoxi, you don’t have to change the topic." Jiang Wanru’s gaze fell on Su Xi, knowing why she was trying to veer off-topic, not in vain had she loved Su Xi so much.

She said: "My grandmother’s ho is in South City, and I lived there for a few years when I was a child." Jiang Wanru’s eyes shone with mories, saying with emotion: "In a blink, it’s been twenty-one years."

Twenty-one years.

Xu Nianhua felt her heart skip a beat; inexplicably, she felt that number was the sa as her age.

Soon, Xu Nianhua thought she might be overthinking.

"Twenty-one years ago, I saw my grandmother off for the last ti." Despite her efforts to restrain her emotions, the pain in Jiang Wanru’s eyes still showed.

"Aunt Jiang, I’m sorry." Xu Nianhua apologized sincerely, not knowing about Aunt Jiang’s sorrow. She wondered if it was her illusion, always feeling there seed to be sothing else in Aunt Jiang’s restrained pain.

"It’s okay." Jiang Wanru looked at her apologetic eyes and felt even more fond of her. She said, "My grandmother lived a long life and had a peaceful passing. She held my hand and was very calm when she passed away."

"Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. I’ll try the dried bayberry that Xiaoxi has been recomnding." Jiang Wanru proactively changed the subject, looking at the dried bayberry under the sun. Sure enough, it was sweet and sour, and the taste was superb.

As she tasted it, Jiang Wanru praised: "Nianhua’s mom is indeed skillful; not only did she raise such a good daughter but also made such delicious dried bayberry."

"Aunt Jiang, if you like it, I’ll dry more next year."

Xu Nianhua said imdiately; she also liked Jiang Wanru very much. After hearing Su Xi say that Jiang Wanru fell ill one sumr, and couldn’t eat much, this dried bayberry and vinegar ginger were sour and sweet, while vinegar ginger had a bit of spice, making it very appetizing.

Indeed, at lunchti, Jiang Wanru ate half a bowl more rice than usual.

"Nianhua, thank your mom for ." Jiang Wanru felt her appetite was much better than before when she couldn’t eat anything.

"No need, Aunt Jiang likes them, that’s enough. My mom has been nagging all the ti, saying to bring more food along, though not worth much, it’s clean and tasty." Xu Nianhua said playfully, her eyes filled with smiling delight.

"I really like it, I haven’t had these things for many years." Jiang Wanru said nostalgically, recalling how she used to enjoy picking bayberries at her grandmother’s place, and to them, even those not fully red were a rare delicacy, truly sour then.

"Hongen, slow down." Fang Manyin watched Su Hong’en run off quickly and hurried to chase after him.

When she reached the living room, she saw her son Hongen standing next to Xu Nianhua, his eyes sparkling as he looked at her.

Fang Manyin wondered in her heart: Could her son be so young and already know how to appreciate beauty?

"Oh, Hongen!" Xu Nianhua looked at Little Hong’en with surprise. Today he was wearing a green shirt, paired with black knee-length shorts and black leather sandals, looking even more adorable.
