Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Hoping for Reconciliation Between the Two Sons
Worried about Xie Changyan upstairs, Lin Xu couldn’t help but look anxiously towards the upper floor even during dinner.
“Mother, you don’t have to worry so much,” Ji Yuqiao comforted, “Didn’t the doctor say it’s nothing serious?”
Lin Xu nodded, but after a while, she expressed her concerns again, “I don’t know if he’s had dinner or not. Maybe I should take so food upstairs.”
She took a large bowl, filled it with so food, and was just about to take it upstairs when—
In a flash, it seed Lin Xu thought of sothing, paused, and handed the bowl to Ji Zeqiu, “Can you go upstairs to check on your dad, and take him so food while you’re at it?”
Ji Zeqiu, who had been quietly eating his al, suddenly exploded, “Why should I go? I’m not going.”
Thinking back to what had happened in the room earlier, his ears were still hot with embarrassnt, and he turned his head away in anger.
“I’d like to bring it myself, but I’ve been outside all day and haven’t eaten, I’m so hungry,” Lin Xu said, with pitiful stars shining in her eyes.
Ji Zeqiu’s expression softened a bit, but he still resisted, “Let Ji Tingyang go then.”
“Your brother is also hungry,” Lin Xu said.
Ji Tingyang looked up at Lin Xu and, in a very cooperative manner, shoveled a couple of mouthfuls of food into his mouth.
“Then… then let sister go,” Ji Zeqiu grumbled.
“Okay, let go, let go. I just so happen to want to go upstairs to see Father!” Ji Yuqiao eagerly raised her hand.
“Cough, cough!!” With her mouth covered, Lin Xu coughed forcefully a few tis, while giving her a look.
Ji Yuqiao imdiately got the ssage, took two big mouthfuls of rice from the bowl she held, “Ah, suddenly I feel so hungry, it’s better if second brother goes himself.”
Lin Xu nudged Ji Zeqiu’s shoulder, “Go on, otherwise he might not die from illness but starve to death upstairs.”
“Let him starve then,” Ji Zeqiu said, but despite his words, he still carried the bowl and chopsticks upstairs.
Soon after, Lin Xu took out her phone and sent a ssage.
[ZeQiu is bringing food upstairs for you. Have a good talk with your son, try to reconcile soon.]
When Xie Changyan saw the ssage, Ji Zeqiu had just entered the room, reluctantly placing the bowl and chopsticks on the bedside table.
“Eat,” his tone was a bit stiff, “If it weren’t for Lin Xu insisting I bring you food, I wouldn’t co up here.”
Xie Changyan smiled and tried to get out of bed, “No need for all this trouble, I can just go downstairs.”
Seeing his haggard face, Ji Zeqiu hesitated for a mont, his expression awkwardly pressing him back onto the bed, “If you’re sick, you should rest properly in bed. What if you collapse downstairs and scare everyone?”
While saying this, he caught Xie Changyan’s eyes, which held a teasing smile, and a blush spread from Ji Zeqiu’s ears to his cheeks, “I… I’m not concerned about you, don’t get the wrong idea.”
A deeper smile filled Xie Changyan’s eyes. He reached out and ruffled Ji Zeqiu’s hair, his voice tinged with resignation, “You used to be so forthright when you were little, how co you’ve grown up to be so stubborn?”
His palm was warm, softening sothing rigid inside Ji Zeqiu.
Xie Changyan sighed as if reminiscing, “Just recently, you were in my arms, hugging and kissing , calling daddy. Now you’ve beco so distant.”
“Why don’t you hug and kiss again?”
Hearing this, Ji Zeqiu’s ears burned even hotter, the redness intense and his voice stuttering, “You wish!”
Confronted with Xie Changyan’s mocking eyes, Ji Zeqiu suddenly realized he had been played again.
Ignoring Xie Changyan, he angrily turned and stomped downstairs, slamming the door behind him so hard that the entire villa seed to tremble.
Looking at Ji Zeqiu, who had returned to the dining table and was gritting his teeth as he ate, Lin Xu beca puzzled once again.
Wasn’t it about letting the two of them have so alone ti to strengthen their father-son relationship? So why did Ji Zeqiu seem even angrier?
Xie Changyan had rested upstairs for a while, but when it was ti to cut the cake and celebrate Lin Xu’s birthday, he ca down from the second floor.
The lights in the villa were extinguished, leaving only a few faint candle flas on the cake.
A gentle breeze blew, causing the candlelight to flicker.
The orange glow cast a light on Lin Xu’s face, making the smile at the corner of her lips appear even softer and warr.
Ji Yuqiao stopped Lin Xu, who was about to blow out the candles. “Mother, you haven’t made a wish yet.”
“Do I have to?” Lin Xu hesitated.
After all, she wasn’t a child anymore and had long surpassed the age for birthday wishes.
“It is essential,” insisted Ji Yuqiao.
“Alright,” Lin Xu closed her eyes and clasped her hands together.
After a mont, she opened her eyes and just as she was about to blow out the candles again, Ji Yuqiao stopped her.
“No, no, you have to say your wish out loud so that the fairies know. That way, they can help you fulfill it.”
How could she help her mother fulfill her wish if she wouldn’t say it out loud?
Lin Xu was sowhat surprised. “How co everything I’ve heard before says that a wish won’t co true if you say it out loud?”
“Uh… that’s because their fairies aren’t effective. Our family’s fairies need to hear it to make it co true,” Ji Yuqiao poked her two brothers beside her. “Big Brother, Second Brother, am I right?”
Ji Tingyang and Ji Zeqiu imdiately nodded in agreent.
Although Lin Xu was still a little confused, she followed Ji Yuqiao’s words and closed her eyes to make a wish again.
“I hope our family will always be safe, happy, and together forever…”
The people present slightly curled up the corners of their lips.
Then they heard her add, “I also hope that my two sons will make up soon, just like when they were little, living together in harmony.”
Ji Tingyang and Ji Zeqiu’s smiles froze for a mont, and they exchanged a silent glance.
Eventually, Ji Zeqiu snorted disdainfully and shook his head.
Seeing the interaction between her two sons, Lin Xu let out a soft sigh. “See, I told you that wishes don’t co true if you say them out loud.”
“Who says? Big Brother and Second Brother get along really well,” Ji Yuqiao pulled their hands together, placing them on top of each other.
A chill ran through Ji Zeqiu’s body, but in the face of Lin Xu’s hopeful gaze, he still endured, “Yes… yes, we do.”
Ji Tingyang’s situation wasn’t much different; he managed a stiff smile and said, “Right, we get along very well.”
“That’s good to hear. You don’t know how worried I was about you two after I got back,” Lin Xu said with a beaming smile and happily blew out the candles.
Ji Tingyang got up to turn on the lights, and by the ti he returned, they had started cutting the cake.
Ji Zeqiu glanced at Ji Tingyang, his eyes seeming to struggle slightly. But, rembering Lin Xu’s wish and bent on playing his part to the fullest, he still grudgingly handed him a piece of cake with a sour face.
Ji Tingyang looked at him with a deep gaze.
“Do you think I want to give you a piece of cake? If it weren’t for Mother, I wouldn’t bother dealing with you at all,” huffed Ji Zeqiu angrily.
