Chapter 177: Chapter 177: The Arrogance of the Upper Class
After the competition ended, Xiao Yu had more ti and had been imrsing himself in the studio since coming back from the neighboring city.
His senior partner, seeing his hard work, felt sowhat ashad.
“Xiao Yu, just like with studies, work requires a balance of rest and labor. Don’t exhaust yourself,” the senior partner said caringly, seeing him spending all his ti in the studio. “You could also go out with Wen Li once in a while. How long has it been since you two went on a date?”
At the ntion of Wen Li’s na, Xiao Yu’s expression softened for a mont, and his typing halted briefly.
He realized that he had indeed been neglecting Wen Li recently.
Xiao Yu took out his phone and opened his chat with Wen Li, only to find their conversation had dwindled for an unknown period.
...
Their last conversation was three days ago.
Wen Li: “Shall we go eat sothing behind the school tonight?”
Xiao Yu: “I’ve been really busy with the studio recently, I have to head back soon and won’t be able to join you.”
Wen Li: “Okay, then good luck with your work.”
There was no follow-up after that.
Xiao Yu pursed his lips, the conflict in his heart lingering only for a mont before dissipating.
“It’s alright, she will understand,” he said to himself as he put his phone back in his pocket and continued working on the project proposal on his computer. “Getting this project is the most important thing right now.”
Securing this big project would not only ensure funding for their operations for the upcoming year but might even allow them to move into a better office.
Then they could take on more projects, hire staff, and expand the size of their studio…
Xiao Yu could even imagine how their studio would grow and thrive in the future.
With this thought, his fingers flew even faster over the keyboard.
Seeing him like this, the senior partner didn’t feel it was his place to advise further, just reminded him, “President Wang has scheduled a eting with us at Wangjiang Pavilion tomorrow to discuss this project; make sure you’re not late.”
Xiao Yu: “Okay.”
The next day.
Xiao Yu and his senior partner arrived early at the gates of Wangjiang Pavilion to wait.
Under the glaring sun, they had been waiting for almost two hours when President Wang finally arrived, late, apologizing, “I’m so sorry, there was so traffic on the road which delayed .”
It wasn’t even peak traffic hours. How could there be traffic?
But what else could they say besides “It’s alright”?
“Why didn’t you sit inside and wait, being out in such harsh sunlight?” President Wang casually ntioned as he walked inside.
Xiao Yu and the senior partner followed behind him, not taking his words seriously.
If he had really wanted them to wait inside, he would have called ahead to let security let them through.
Once inside the private room, President Wang didn’t even glance at the nu, just told the waiter, “The usual.”
It was only after the waiter left that he seed to rember the other two, “I’m sorry, I got used to eating by myself; I forgot to ask what you guys wanted. I’ll have the waiter bring the nu back.”
The senior partner hurriedly waved his hand, “It’s okay, it’s okay. We’re not picky, whatever you’ve ordered is fine.”
President Wang nodded nonchalantly.
“President Wang, while we wait for the food to arrive, let share our project ideas with you,” Xiao Yu said as he brought out the docunts.
No sooner had he handed them over than President Wang frowned, “Let’s not talk about this during the al. We’ll talk after we eat.”
Xiao Yu’s hand, suspended in mid-air, stiffened for a mont.
The senior hastily pulled his hand back and said to President Wang, “President Wang is right. Let’s talk after we eat, after we eat…”
Throughout the al, the senior drank quite a bit of alcohol.
No matter what President Wang said, he would nod in agreent, his posture for toasting almost bowing to the ground.
The bowing and scraping posture just to secure a contract was so painful to watch that Xiao Yu felt as if his eyes were stinging and his chest was blocked by sothing.
“Xiao Xiao, why haven’t you touched the glass of wine in your hand?” President Wang noticed the silent Xiao Yu.
The senior secretly kicked Xiao Yu under the table, giving him a look that urged him to toast.
Xiao Yu gripped the wine glass slightly harder, forcing himself to toast to President Wang.
The red wine poured down his throat, its bitterness spreading in his mouth, overtaking his taste buds.
“This is a ’98 Aleurites Wine Estate red wine. You probably don’t get the chance to taste this often; take advantage of the opportunity and drink more.” President Wang’s eyes carried the arrogance of the upper class.
Xiao Yu clenched his fists, his fingernails digging into his palm, the pain spreading from his hand to his whole body.
After the al, Xiao Yu took out the docunts again, “President Wang, about this project we…”
“Ah.” President Wang frowned slightly, “Young man, don’t be in such a rush. By the way, there are a lot of entertainnt facilities here. Since it’s your first visit, why don’t we go have a look?”
“Sure, thank you for the trouble, President Wang.” The senior hurriedly agreed.
Xiao Yu’s expression darkened.
If he really didn’t want to sign a contract with them, then why invite them out for a al; but if he was interested in signing, why did he always change the subject whenever the project was ntioned.
They followed President Wang around Wangjiang Pavilion. When they passed by the bowling area, they heard noises from inside, as if soone was there.
President Wang looked inside and his eyes suddenly brightened, his steps quickly leading him that way.
“Young Master Xie, didn’t expect you to be here today as well, what a coincidence!” President Wang’s face was full of smiles, his respectful words tainted with flattery.
Xie Changyan glanced back at him and responded in an indifferent tone.
“Young Master Xie, I don’t know if you are free now. I ntioned a project in the west of the city to you last ti, and would like to discuss it with you,” President Wang said, bending over as he spoke.
“It’s my rest ti now, let’s not talk shop.” Xie Changyan averted his gaze, looking back at the two people in front of him.
“Yes, yes, you are right. Shall I co to Xie’s tomorrow?” President Wang said cautiously.
Before he even received a response, he heard the sound of a bowling ball hitting pins followed by a cheer.
“Strike! See how good I am!” Ji Yuqiao stood with her hands on her hips, proudly.
“No way, one more ga.” Lin Xu protested.
Xie Changyan chuckled and walked over, his fingertips brushing through Lin Xu’s hair damp with sweat, “You’re sweating a lot. Take a rest first; I’ll win it back for you.”
“No way, no cheating!” Ji Yuqiao’s head shook vehently. Suddenly, her gaze swept to Xiao Yu nearby, her body instantly stiffening.
Lin Xu noticed her reaction and followed her gaze to Xiao Yu, her eyebrows knitting together.
Why is he here?
Xiao Yu had noticed Ji Yuqiao earlier.
Watching President Wang trying to talk to Xie Changyan with the sa respectful manner they had shown at the dinner table, he could only feel a sense of mockery inside.
