Xiao Bai has always been clever and quick-witted, and he imdiately thought of a possibility.

He turned around to look at Bai Zhixi who was still in a deep sleep, the words he wanted to say stopped abruptly in his throat.

Now is not a good ti to say it, it’s unlucky.

Wan Chu’er, this bastard!

Xiao Bai gave Wan Chu’er a furious stare for a long while, then turned his head and stord off angrily.

Dabai was confused, thought about it, and then left too, knowing that Bai Zhixi was just asleep and with Wan Chu’er around, she probably wouldn’t be discharged from the hospital anyti soon. There was no use for him to stick around here.

Upon leaving the ward, he went to the doctor’s office, asked about Bai Zhixi’s condition, instructed them a few things, deposited so money into her hospital account, and then left the hospital.

Xiao Bai, fuming, rushed to Heavenly World and asked the bartender to pour him a drink.

Liu Li had just seen off a client, turned around, and saw the boss sitting alone at the bar drinking. She adjusted her clothes slightly, then sashayed over.

Slling the nauseating scent of cheap perfu, Xiao Bai didn’t even turn his head and coldly said, "Scram."

Liu Li’s flirtatious smile froze, then she shook her teeth, emboldened like a calf not fearing the tiger, continued to move closer to Xiao Bai.

"Boss, drinking alone is so boring, let Lily keep you company, okay?"

Her voice was exceedingly coquettish, but it only made Xiao Bai even angrier.

"Scram!"

His roar startled Liu Li, who reflexively ran off in panic.

After a while, Xiao Bai called Lu Lu over, repressed his anger, and coldly said, "Introduce more clients to that Liu Li." He then left Heavenly World.

He rushed ho like the wind. As soon as he entered, seeing his dad drinking tea and reading the newspaper, his anger could no longer be contained, and he kicked the door.

Old Bai looked up leisurely and said, "Don’t break my door."

This comnt was like poking a hornet’s nest, leading Xiao Bai to shout:

"How can you still sit here reading the newspaper, drinking tea, do you know Bai Zhixi is about to die! If Bai Zhixi dies, Wan Chu’er will die too!"

Old Bai’s hand that held the newspaper shook slightly, his breathing slowed down for a couple of beats, and after a few seconds, he faintly "Hmm"ed.

Xiao Bai almost burst into laughter from his dad’s reaction, "Hmm? Hearing your sister and niece are about to die, and you just ’Hmm’? Truly deserving of a businessman, unflappable indeed!"

Old Bai frowned, put down the newspaper, and said, "I have neither a sister nor a niece."

"Fuck!" Xiao Bai swore in front of his dad.

"Slap!" Old Bai slamd his hand on the table, causing a loud bang, the old man was furious, and roared, "Get lost!"

Clearly, a man with a fiery temper.

Xiao Bai snorted and didn’t dare to talk back to his dad again, but he was still angry inside. He grabbed his jacket thrown on the sofa, and walked out, passing his brother without a glance.

Dabai paused, then continued into the living room, saw his father catching his breath from anger, and realized Xiao Bai had angered him.

He didn’t feel like diating anything, sat down on the sofa, and began staring blankly ahead.

After a long wait, Old Bai didn’t hear his sensible elder son’s voice, he turned his head and saw his son looking dejected.

Old Bai could not help but say, "What’s wrong? Do you also think I’m too indifferent, not caring about the life and death of others?"

Dabai did not move.

"When your grandfather passed away, you were also there. He made swear never to acknowledge your aunt and your grandmother. I can’t just take the words I said as nothing, that would bring retribution."

Old Bai now particularly believed in such retribution. A few years ago, he once made a business deal swearing on his wife’s na, then he didn’t take it seriously and directly broke the oath. As a result, his wife passed away.

He thought it over and felt it was because of his reckless swearing. Later, he spent a lot of money to make up for it and thereafter dared not swear carelessly or break it rashly.

When his father died, he swore on his two sons, so he dared not acknowledge Bai Zhixi.

This was one reason, and another was his male chauvinism. He felt that his mother had betrayed his father, and Bai Zhixi was the evidence of that betrayal.

No man would be able to endure this, though it was his mother’s and father’s affair, he still could not internally accept it.

Whenever Old Bai thought of Bai Zhixi and Wan Chu’er, he felt indignant for his father, also felt uncomfortable in his heart, let alone to acknowledge them.

After Old Bai explained, seeing that his son still had no reaction, he beca a little annoyed and said, "What do you expect to do?"

It was then Dabai sat up properly and said leisurely, "I was just thinking of when my mother passed away."

ntioning his wife, Old Bai imdiately beca quiet; he felt that his wife’s death was all because he had violated the oath, so every ti his deceased wife was ntioned, he felt very guilty.

After a while, Old Bai sowhat reluctantly asked, "What happened to Bai Zhixi?"

"Advanced cancer, only a month or two left."

Old Bai gasped, montarily stunned, with so mixed feelings as images flashed through his mind.

A while later, Old Bai asked again, "Just now your brother said Bai Zhixi died, Wan Chu’er will die too, what’s wrong with that girl? Wasn’t it said her college entrance examination scores were very good?"

Dabai’s expression dimd as he said, "Don’t know, probably from excessive grief."

Old Bai sat for a while, then said, "I can’t go to see them, mother and daughter. You and your brother can do as you wish," then he went back to his own room.

Looking at his back as he walked away, it seed sowhat stooped, and more desolate.

The next morning, Bai Zhixi finally woke up.

"Mom, how are you feeling?" Wan Chu’er was the first to notice her mother stirring and anxiously asked.

Upon hearing her daughter’s voice, Bai Zhixi instinctively managed a smile, which looked quite bleak, "Mom’s fine."

Attentively, Wan Chu’er asked, "Want to sit up a bit? I can crank the bed up, okay?"

"Okay."

Then Wan Chu’er started to get busy, first adjusting the bed to a suitable angle, then asking Bai Zhixi if she wanted to eat. Knowing Bai Zhixi had no appetite, she gave her a few sips of water, then went to fetch hot water and gently helped her wash her face and hands.

Being refreshed always feels more comfortable.

After washing her face, Wan Chu’er even went out to borrow a nail clipper from a nurse to trim Bai Zhixi’s nails.

"Mom, your nail shape is really nice. Do you want to paint them? It would look pretty. What color do you like? I’ll buy one on my way ho in the afternoon."

While cutting Bai Zhixi’s nails, Wan Chu’er spoke softly, her tone calm as if discussing girl things with a friend.

Watching her daughter’s changed deanor from previously being upset, Bai Zhixi felt uneasy inside. She carefully observed every move and every word of her daughter, trying to discern sothing.
