Bai Zhixi had lost her appetite. She put down her bowl and said, "The day after tomorrow you’ll be filling out your university preferences, but could you help mom make a trip to Wanzhou tomorrow? Boss Hu from Wanzhou wants to take over our pickle business, and after much consideration, I’ve decided to transfer the business. You and Xiao Bai will go to Wanzhou tomorrow to talk things over with Boss Hu, and if things can be settled, then let them be settled."

Bai Zhixi said all this in one breath. Boss Hu is that pickle boss from Wanzhou.

Hearing her mother’s words, Wan Chu’er was sowhat surprised. Although Bai Zhixi had ntioned selling the pickle business before, Wan Chu’er did not expect that she, together with Xiao Bai, would be the ones to go.

"Mom, aren’t you coming with ? I don’t know much about our business, what would be the right price to ask for?" Wan Chu’er spoke more and more uneasily, completely overlooking the presence of Xiao Bai.

Bai Zhixi forced a smile and said, "There are so matters here that I need to deal with and cannot leave. I’ve nearly finalized everything with Boss Hu. You’re about to be a university student; this is a good opportunity to gain so experience."

After saying this, she handed a notebook to her, "This notebook contains the general details about the pickle business. With Xiao Bai with you, there shouldn’t be any problems."

Wan Chu’er was about to say sothing more when Bai Zhixi sternly said, "I’ve raised you for eighteen years, is it so hard to do sothing I ask of you?" After speaking, she stood up, returned to her room, and slamd the door shut from inside.

What’s going on?

Wan Chu’er was dumbfounded, unable to understand what was happening. Why did Bai Zhixi suddenly get angry again?

She hastily ran to Bai Zhixi’s room door, and when she pushed it, it wouldn’t budge—it was locked from inside.

"Mom, I’m not trying to shirk, I just want you to go with so we can negotiate well."

After waiting a while, there was no response from inside. Wan Chu’er put her ear to the door but couldn’t hear anything.

She tried to coax Bai Zhixi, "Okay, mom, I will carefully read the notebook you gave , and I’ll et with Xiao Bai to go to Wanzhou tomorrow. Please don’t be angry."

She continued to coax for quite a while until Bai Zhixi finally gave a terse "mm."

So miserly, Wan Chu’er felt unhappy. She would need to find a ti to have a good chat with Bai Zhixi, to ask what was wrong with her lately.

Might it be the high school stress syndro? But she had finished her exams, and Bai Zhixi’s temper hadn’t gone back to normal.

In the room, Bai Zhixi covered her mouth tightly with a piece of clothing, convulsing in agony.

The next morning when Wan Chu’er woke up, Bai Zhixi was gone again, only a note was left on the table.

Before she could make sense of it, there ca a loud yelling from Xiao Bai outside.

Wan Chu’er was worried about Bai Zhixi and wanted to look for her, but Xiao Bai persuaded her, "If you don’t follow your mom’s instructions, searching for her is pointless, and it might even make her angrier."

Thinking it over, she felt there was so truth to it, so she got ready and went to Wanzhou with Xiao Bai.

On the way, Wan Chu’er increasingly felt that Bai Zhixi’s behavior was very problematic recently.

She’s avoiding !

That was the conclusion Wan Chu’er ca to.

But why avoid her? What was happening?

Was sothing Bai Zhixi felt necessary to hide from her?

Maybe there was so developnt with An Lian? No, that couldn’t be right; she saw An Lian last week, and he didn’t seem particularly happy.

Wan Chu’er had a lot on her mind throughout the journey, and although Xiao Bai chirped away at her side, she didn’t absorb a single word.

Upon eting Boss Hu, it seed that he knew she was coming, as he showed no surprise at her arrival—perhaps he had really almost finalized negotiations with Bai Zhixi, or perhaps it was because Xiao Bai was there to help with the conversation.

In the end, they agreed on a price of one hundred thousand yuan, with Boss Hu taking over everything related to Bai’s Pickles, including the pickle workshop, the pickle-making techniques, and partnerships.

Xiao Bai used Boss Hu’s phone to call Bai Zhixi and reported the results of their discussion.

Bai Zhixi directly instructed them to sign the contract, and Xiao Bai took out an authorization docunt that Bai Zhixi had given to Wan Chu’er.

Wan Chu’er was shocked but still followed Bai Zhixi’s instructions and signed with Boss Hu, who imdiately handed over twenty thousand yuan to Wan Chu’er, with the remaining eighty thousand to be delivered after his team fully took over Bai’s Pickles.

The whole process ended smoothly, but Wan Chu’er felt uneasy, as if sothing was amiss.

She tried hard to figure it out but couldn’t co to a conclusion, so she decided to return to Wutong.

After the business talk, Boss Hu invited them to dinner, but Wan Chu’er declined; Xiao Bai, however, pulled her along and accepted the invitation with a laugh.

Wan Chu’er glared at Xiao Bai, who taught her: "This is the basics of conducting business; our deal isn’t completely concluded yet. Boss Hu’s invitation is to discuss the takeover details during dinner."

Wan Chu’er took a deep breath, understanding what Xiao Bai ant, and agreed.

After dining, it was already eight in the evening, and they had missed the last bus back to Wutong.

The two were forced to find a hotel in Wanzhou for the night. Wan Chu’er, preoccupied with thoughts of Bai Zhixi, was visibly upset, and it showed in her words.

Xiao Bai quickly guessed her concerns and, uncharacteristically patient, consoled Wan Chu’er for a while without mocking her needless worries.

Eventually, they each returned to their rooms and slept until dawn.

The next morning, after having breakfast in Wanzhou, Wan Chu’er and Xiao Bai took a bus back to Wutong, where Xiao Bai hailed a cab.

Wan Chu’er boarded without a second thought, only to realize a couple of minutes later that the direction was wrong.

"I want to go ho, where are you taking ?"

Xiao Bai slapped her gently, laughing, "Today is the day you fill out your college preferences, let’s go to the school to fill it out first, then we can go ho. It saves us another trip. Don’t tell you’ve changed your mind because you didn’t do well?"

Wan Chu’er rolled her eyes at him, saying, "How could that be? Just wait and see strut around the streets in triumph."

That ant she was confident about getting into Beijing’s first university. In a small place like Wutong County, getting into Beijing’s first university would be heavily publicized by the county governnt.

Xiao Bai laughed, "Alright, if you really make it, I’ll give you a big red envelope."

At the school, Teacher Zhu, seeing Wan Chu’er, happily handed her an application form personally and instructed her to fill it out at his desk.

Wan Chu’er thanked him and unceremoniously began to fill it out.

Her top three choices were all Beijing’s first university. Teacher Zhu, seeing her choices, smiled even broader, full of confidence in Wan Chu’er.

Teacher Zhu said, "Once the results are out, I’ll notify you. Leave your phone number."

Wan Chu’er paused; her family didn’t have a phone, but Big Courtyard Pickles had one installed. She hesitated whether to leave that number.

While she hesitated, Xiao Bai quickly gave his own number, "Teacher Zhu, I am Wan Chu’er’s cousin, you can call my number."

Wan Chu’er glanced at him but did not object. She was confident in her scores, knowing the results sooner or later didn’t matter to her, as she would eventually find out.
