"Swindler!" Jian Xi slamd the docunts on the table and cast a glare at Si Yuhuan.

"I did help you," Si Yuhuan said, leaving Jian Xi at a loss for words.

"You didn’t help ; you helped Mrs. Si. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming to make feel grateful. Dream on," Jian Xi sneered coldly. "If it weren’t for your ’White Moonlight,’ I wouldn’t be in this ss, getting savagely berated and even dragging Zhou Yan into it."

"Was it her deliberate plan to have you both co to this place?"

The retort from Si Yuhuan left Jian Xi speechless again.

He could always twist the truth, as if everything was her fault.

"Si Yuhuan, are you saying that if I’m with any man, it ans I’m cheating?" she snapped.

The man lifted an eyebrow provocatively. "So, if I’m with Jiang Qing, that’s cheating then?"

Jian Xi bit her red lip, unable to think of anything to say, and the room fell silent.

Yan Qing knocked on the door. "The person downstairs wants to see you."

Si Yuhuan looked up at Jian Xi. "Let’s go."

Is he planning to take with him? Who exactly is this person?

She followed him. As they left the hotel, a light drizzle began to fall. The early winter wind was biting, cutting to the bone, and Jian Xi was soaked through almost imdiately after stepping outside. Si Yuhuan, enveloped by the fierce, cold wind, strode towards the private club downstairs like a shooting star. His retreating figure, like a towering mountain, exuded an inexplicable yet convincing sense of security at that mont.

Jian Xi quickened her pace to catch up.

After they entered, a personal attendant was there to serve them.

The private room they chose was also relatively secure, its air filled with a faint, delicate fragrance.

"Miss, right this way."

Jian Xi, montarily lost in thought, found herself left behind. That damned man, deliberately trying to embarrass ! She hurried to catch up.

Upon entering, she saw a middle-aged man, not yet fifty, sitting in the seat of honor. His serious face was lined with wrinkles. His temples, belying his age, were entirely white, and his lips had a bluish tinge, making him look as though he was in poor health.

"Miss Jian, you’re staring at as if you’ve completely forgotten who I am," he said.

Did they know each other?

Jian Xi searched her mory, and suddenly, a face from her past rged with the man before her.

She pointed at Si Yuhuan, too agitated to utter a single word for a long mont.

It’s the Vice Chancellor! Zhou Bo! Beijing University, the best university in the country—Si Yuhuan and I both graduated from there. At the graduation ceremony, it was this very man who adjusted the tassel on my academic cap!

"Rumor has it that you’ve been steadily rising in ranks, and now you’ve beco..." Jian Xi covered her mouth, her mind flashing to the bodyguard who had acted so swiftly and decisively just monts ago.

Connecting this revelation about Zhou Bo to Zhou Yan, it was like another bolt of thunder striking her. She finally understood why Si Yuhuan wouldn’t even spare Chu Xiao, yet repeatedly tolerated Zhou Yan’s provocations. She should have known! Zhou Yan’s identity was clearly special; she just hadn’t expected his background to be so significant. That important person her fourth brother had rushed off to see last ti, the one introduced by her second brother for surgery—that must have been Vice Chancellor Zhou Bo as well.

"I apologize for keeping this from you for so long. This old life of mine was saved by your fourth brother. Please thank him for ," Zhou Bo said, gesturing for her to sit. Jian Xi took a seat.

Zhou Bo was no ordinary person. After carefully choosing his words, he began, "I called you both down for two reasons. First, to express my gratitude. Thankfully, Director Si, you managed to turn the tide; otherwise, I don’t know what kind of major trouble that rascal Zhou Yan would have caused."

Si Yuhuan maintained his dignified and noble deanor, his expression unchanging. His extraordinary presence was in no way inferior to the profound and reserved Zhou Bo opposite him.

"Second, to apologize," Zhou Bo continued. "He’s caused you a lot of trouble recently, especially you, Jian Xi. It’s been hard on you. He’s young and doesn’t know any better, so please don’t hold it against him."

His words held multiple layers of aning, but Jian Xi understood one thing clearly: he wanted to draw a line. She imdiately stated her position, "An employer-employee relationship inherently involves mutual benefits. We flourish together and suffer losses together."

"HAHAHA! It’s good that you can think of it that way." Zhou Bo raised his teacup, toasting them with tea in place of wine.

...

When Jian Xi ca out, she couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

Speaking with soone of such high status is truly suffocating.

"It seems you’re destined never to beco the wife of a second-generation official. Being tactfully rejected doesn’t feel good, does it?"

Jian Xi ignored Si Yuhuan’s cold taunts.

"Zhou Bo will never agree to a divorced woman marrying into the Zhou family as a daughter-in-law," Si Yuhuan warned, his cold eyes shooting a chilling light as he spoke from behind her.

Jian Xi had never even considered marrying Zhou Yan. She only wanted to be friends, use his resources to strengthen herself, and sche to extract more benefits from Si Yuhuan after their divorce. When had she ever thought about becoming so ’wife of a second-generation official’? Fine, he’s deliberately trying to provoke , is he? Then I’ll play along and go crazy!

"I’m determined to divorce you and beco the wife of a second-generation official! Think how prestigious that will sound! And yes, it absolutely has to be Zhou Yan!"

Anger surged in Si Yuhuan’s eyes.

Jian Xi continued to fan the flas. "Zhou Yan is the one who likes . He’s risked his life for . Zhou Bo only has this one son; how could he not yield to his wishes? You truly underestimate my charm, Director Si! Just you watch, I definitely won’t disappoint you."

HISS!

Her arm was gripped tightly by Si Yuhuan.

"Hey, that really hurts! Let go of !"

"Jian Xi, how many tis have I taught you, yet you still don’t learn? Are the consequences of angering sothing you can truly bear?" His eyes looked as if they could devour her.

Jian Xi felt a wave of fear wash over her at her own reckless words, the hairs on her arms standing on end.

Am I an idiot? Why did I have to provoke him in this unfamiliar place?

"It hurts... let go." Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her stomach, and Jian Xi’s small face contorted in agony.

What a habitual liar! Si Yuhuan thought, his grip tightening further.

Jian Xi was drenched in a cold sweat from the pain. "Si Yuhuan, let go! I’m in so much pain, really!"

She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her.

"Jian Xi?"

Jian Xi fainted. Just before losing consciousness, she saw Si Yuhuan’s panicked face as he repeatedly called her na. I want to answer, but I really have no strength left.

「Soti later.」

When Jian Xi regained consciousness, she found herself in a hotel room.

A young nurse approached her. "Miss, how are you feeling now? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?"

As her mories returned, Jian Xi shook her head. "Where is he?"

BANG.

The door burst open, and Zhou Yan rushed in anxiously. "Senior, are you okay?"

"Why is it you?"

Before I fainted, wasn’t Si Yuhuan there...?

Zhou Yan said resentfully, "Yesterday, when I ca out, I saw you fainting in his arms, so I fought him."

The nurse quickly added, "They fought so fiercely that they were both taken to separate rooms to be treated by our Director Zhou’s private doctor."

After saying this, she hurriedly tried to shoo Zhou Yan away. "Director Zhou said you’re not allowed in this room! Get out now!"

She kept pushing him, and Zhou Yan cried out in pain, "OW, OW, OW! Xiaoxing, if you keep this up, you’ll completely break my arm!"

Jian Xi’s lips twitched; she sensed the situation was indeed serious.

Nurse Xiaoxing said, "Our Young Master Zhou’s arm is broken. As for that other one, his face is all bruised and cut too. The famous Director Si is so skilled with his fists, yet he almost beat soone to death. He’s truly vicious when he strikes."
