Recently, she had been avoiding Long Wu, trying not to et him because Mrs. Long went to Sing a while ago to talk to her and said many things.
Mrs. Long didn’t behave too forcefully; instead, she spoke gently about Long Wu’s excellence and the complex interpersonal relationships behind his family.
Su ng wasn’t foolish—this ti, she saw even more clearly the distance between the two of them. To call it a gulf as vast as heaven and earth wouldn’t be an exaggeration, especially when there’s the matter of infertility lying between them.
If she could get pregnant, perhaps she would have the courage to stand firmly by Long Wu’s side, but alas, she couldn’t. It seed as though the ending had already been sealed many years ago.
The only reason this conclusion was delayed was because her misfortune kept Long Wu unable to let go of her.
Mrs. Long then asked about Su ng’s family situation, which thoroughly shattered Su ng’s last shred of fantasy. She had a mother to take care of—in her life, aside from love, there was also kinship and responsibility.
What’s more, since she loved Long Wu, she wanted him to be happy. For soone in his thirties, it was ti he had a family and a child.
Yet, she couldn’t give him any of this. Even though Mrs. Long refrained from acting excessively and remained polite the entire ti, Su ng could feel that within her courtesy lay estrangent, disdain, and deep-seated contempt.
"Isn’t that what you’re here for! I don’t have the energy or mood to manage all this right now! From now on, I appoint you as both Chairwoman and General Manager. Big shot. We split the profits fifty-fifty; fair deal, right?" Li Si laughed, holding her hand.
She trusted Su ng’s abilities and genuinely wanted to hand everything over to her in the future.
After she had her baby, she would want to focus on raising the child. Managing business wasn’t sothing she would have ti for.
Su ng pulled herself back from her thoughts, speaking in her usual tone, "You! You’re just sweet-talking to trap ! Fine, since I can’t resist your tricks, I’ll accept. But Sisi, let make this clear, huh? I’ll help you manage things at Sing, but no need for the fifty-fifty split. Just give a salary and commission, that’s enough for ."
She wasn’t the greedy type. Without Li Si, there wouldn’t be her today.
She felt grateful—what she said earlier had only been a joke.
"That won’t do! You must follow what I said. Besides, who knows, you might end up marrying Brother Wu one day. Don’t you need to save up a dowry for yourself?" Li Si teased.
Su ng stiffened, a trace of bitterness flashing across her face. In a small voice, she said, "Sisi, I won’t hide it from you anymore. There’s no chance for and him!"
In that mont, she suddenly didn’t want to keep pretending. She was too tired. Facing Long Wu’s pursuit wore her down; facing Mrs. Su’s expectant gaze wore her down even more.
Better to just speak the truth—it wasn’t anything worth being afraid of.
"Why?" Li Si remarked. Surely, there must’ve been so conflict between the two.
Su ng shook her head helplessly. "No reason, just that I’m tired."
"ng ng, you know —I speak straightforwardly. We’re close, so I’ll just say it: sothing must’ve happened to make you say this. What’s really going on?"
Li Si gripped her hand tightly, only to feel how cold it was. Su ng must really be feeling awful.
Su ng glanced at Leng Mochen, who was driving ahead, and softly leaned over to whisper in Li Si’s ear, "His mom ca to see !"
Li Si couldn’t help but complain. Why does it always have to play out this way? Can’t they co up with sothing new?
"Did she give you a check?" Isn’t that how it’s always portrayed in TV dramas? A few elegant strokes, then tossing the check, saying, ’As long as you leave my son, this few million is yours.’
"No!" Su ng shook her head earnestly.
"What did she say then?"
"What she said doesn’t matter. What matters is, Sisi, you know—I’m infertile. I’m not a match for him!" Su ng confessed with resignation, as if she’d finally let go of the burden in her heart.
Li Si leaned close to her ear, in a mysterious tone. "You and Brother Wu gave it a try?"
Seeing her blush and shake her head, Li Si’s smile widened.
"Did you drink that bottle of juice I mixed for you?"
Back then, she had mixed so powdered drink especially for Su ng. As long as she’d drunk it, there shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Su ng didn’t expect her to change topics so quickly. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she answered softly, "Don’t bring that up. I drank it, but maybe my stomach wasn’t good. I ended up going to the bathroom several tis afterward. Luckily, I was at the shop at the ti, or I would’ve been utterly mortified."
Still, afterward, she actually felt a lot better. Maybe, as Zhang Qian from the shop had said, having a good cleansing was healthy—just treat it as detoxing!
If Li Si knew these remarks, she’d surely comnt, Zhang Qian truly got the point!
"ng ng, do you trust ? Go for a check-up tomorrow. Whether there’s a problem—it’s up to the doctor, not you!"
