In just a short while, he guessed it was probably sothing about the store that was troubling her.
Li Si looked at the scenery speeding past the car window. After a mont of silence, she turned her head seriously to look at his profile. "Do you still rember the last ti I told you about the woman Xiao Ning and I ran into at the mall, the one with a child? I just ran into her at the store! Isn’t that a coincidence? She said her surna is Qian!"
As she spoke, she was secretly observing his expression. If this person were truly soone significant, Leng Ning should have ntioned her to him long ago.
Leng Mochen felt a stir inside but kept his expression unchanged, responding calmly, "What did she say to you?"
In his mind, he was calculating. It seed this matter needed to be addressed quickly—this person was clearly trouble.
"She just said hello! But I couldn’t shake the feeling that the way she looked at was strange. How should I put it? Even though she was smiling, it felt cold!" Li Si couldn’t pinpoint what she felt, but it was definitely unsettling.
Although Leng Mochen showed no unusual reaction, her sixth sense told her that the woman was not ordinary.
"Why are you focusing so much on a stranger? Can you guess why Long Wu was looking for just now?" Leng Mochen seized the opportunity to change the subject.
True to form, Li Si’s curiosity was piqued. "Oh right, he did seem rather urgent. What did he need you for?"
Leng Mochen’s lips twitched slightly into a smirk. "He wants to throw a birthday party for Su ng’s mom this Friday at his Western restaurant."
Li Si rubbed her chin and chuckled. "Brother Wu is really sothing now, resorting to backdoor diplomacy!"
Just as she finished speaking, a thought suddenly struck her. "Oh no! I think Shasha is coming on Friday. She told a few days ago on Q that she’s already secured an internship."
"Then just bring her directly to the party. The more, the rrier!" Leng Mochen said with a smile. "Will she co alone or with her fiancé?" He asked because he knew Bai Shasha was already engaged.
"She’s coming alone. She’s having so issues with her fiancé." Thinking of this, Li Si grew a bit worried, unsure how Shasha was really doing.
On Q the other day, Shasha hadn’t seed in the best spirits. She only ntioned that her parents had agreed to let her move to Beijing this ti, and when pressed for more details, she simply said she’d explain in person. Sigh, such a headache!
At this ti, the Bai Shasha everyone was worried about was shopping for clothes at the mall with Mrs. Bai. She sneezed twice in quick succession, muttering to herself, "Soone must be talking about !"
Mrs. Bai picked up a professional black-and-white outfit and held it against her daughter’s complexion, feeling it was a good match. "Shasha, go try this on! Starting work is different from school; you need to dress appropriately and look sharp!"
Bai Shasha looked at the garnt, clearly far from her sense of style, and reluctantly took it into the dressing room with gritted teeth. After changing, she stood in front of the mirror, looking noticeably five years older. Seriously?
Frowning and pouting, Shasha was about to say sothing when Mrs. Bai nodded in satisfaction. With so light makeup, her daughter’s transformation into a professional woman was complete. Pleased, Mrs. Bai called out to the salesperson, "We’ll take it!"
Fine. Since her family wouldn’t be around in Beijing, it didn’t matter if they bought the outfit. She could always choose not to wear it later!
With this thought, mother and daughter finished buying the items needed for her move to Beijing and headed ho.
As they approached the entrance to their apartnt building, they saw an exhausted-looking Cao Yufan waiting for them. Spotting Bai Shasha and her mother, he wore a complicated smile. "Shasha! Ma’am! You..."
Bai Shasha shot him a fierce glare, giving him no hint of kindness. She opened the door and slamd it shut with a "Bang!" leaving the two of them outside.
Maintaining her smile, Mrs. Bai gripped the shopping bag tightly in her hand. "Yufan, what brings you here? Let’s talk over there."
She silently led Cao Yufan to the side of the building, a quieter place for conversation. Unlike the apartnt entrance, which bustled with neighbors coming and going, this was more discreet. She didn’t want others overhearing, as it wouldn’t reflect well on anyone.
The matter between him and her daughter—while parents shouldn’t interfere too much—it was hard to just let go. She was already unhappy that, even before marriage, he had been entangled with another woman. Kissing, of all things—it was unacceptable.
Initially, with him being a colleague’s son from her workplace, a family she knew well, she thought the arrangent was reliable. His mother had a good personality, and the two families were close. The children grew up together, playing harmoniously.
When they started dating and eventually got engaged, Mrs. Bai believed her daughter’s marriage would be relatively smooth, with minimal issues between in-laws.
But who would’ve thought... it was Yufan who ssed up first.
Early that morning, Yufan had tried to contact the Bai family. Recently, Bai Shasha had stopped answering his calls and refused to reply to his ssages. Even when he knocked on their door, she ignored him completely, giving him no chance to explain himself.
Today, after finally getting the door open, Mr. Bai was ho. Yufan explained the situation to him, but after speaking, he wasn’t even sure if anyone believed him. He himself found it strange how he had been so sure of his supposed innocence before.
Finding no way to stay any longer in the apartnt, he decided to wait downstairs to intercept the two.
"Aunt Hui, I ca today to properly explain things to Shasha..." Cao Yufan began, trying to explain his reasons for showing up.
Hearing him address her as "Aunt Hui," Mrs. Bai felt turmoil in her heart. She waved her hand helplessly. "Yufan, just call Aunt Hui. You know that both Mr. Bai and I respect Shasha’s decisions.
I’ve caught bits and pieces from what Shasha has said. While I don’t know the full details, they say flies don’t land on seamless eggs. If you hadn’t given the other girl a chance, such a situation wouldn’t have occurred!"
"Aunt Hui, I was wrong! I ca today to sincerely explain to Shasha. That day, it really wasn’t what she thought it was! I..."
Cao Yufan forced a bitter smile. Back then, when ng Xi kissed him, he had been stunned and failed to react. Unfortunately, Shasha caught him in that very mont, and from there, she resolutely decided to break up, leaving no room for negotiation.
Mrs. Bai couldn’t help feeling upset as well. However, what’s done was done. The fact that she could still talk to Yufan calmly today was already a significant concession, mainly because his mother was her colleague. Otherwise, with her past temper, she would’ve chased him off long ago.
During that period, the atmosphere in the Bai household had been stifling. Shasha, their engaged daughter, personally saw Yufan kissing another girl at school—such a blow. Thankfully, their daughter had a heart open enough to pack up her grief after a few days of sadness and start preparing for her internship in Beijing. (To be continued.
