[Cedric’s POV:]

This is so fucked up.

I never wanted to be part of this chaos. I’m not so hero out here to save people.

Risking my life to rescue that old bastard?

Yeah, no thanks. That’s not who I am.

But still... I ca here.

Why?

Because Rinne was dragged into this.

The love of my life.

She doesn’t belong on a battlefield. A woman like her should be shielded from the sun, pampered, admired—not sent out to fight monsters in the dirt.

She’s delicate. Refined. Flawless.

Her beauty should be preserved like fine art. And I’ve sworn to always protect her.

She may not love yet... but she will.

One day, she’ll see.

And today, I had the perfect chance to impress her. Take down so drakes, save a few lives, and walk away with her admiration.

But then—

"Ghuok!"

The damn tank in front of collapsed like a sack of potatoes.

Seriously?

Do your job and hold the damn line!

I almost kicked him in the face out of frustration—but then I rembered Rinne might be watching.

No. Not now. Keep it cool.

So I pulled him back and started firing ice lances at the drake charging toward us.

"Thank you, Your Highness," he mumbled, barely standing.

Yeah, save it.

If it weren’t for Rinne, I’d have fed you to that thing. Useless.

"Cedric, watch out!"

The shout snapped out of it. I ducked just in ti—sothing huge passed right over my head.

Then—

"Ghuaaaa—ahhh!"

I turned around just in ti to watch that sa tank get swallowed whole.

The drake tore into him like paper. Blood. Screams. Bones.

Shit.

This is spiraling out of control.

I backed off quickly, heart racing as the beast gnawed on what was left of him.

That made two students down. Maybe more.

My mana was running low—I’d already taken out two drakes. The others had gotten three down too.

But it was no use.

More kept coming.

"They just don’t stop," I growled, teeth clenched.

How many do they hatch at once? Seriously—what the hell?!

"This can’t go on..." Taylor ran up beside , panting.

I clicked my tongue, annoyed just hearing his voice.

"I know. But what the hell can we even do?"

"We need reinforcents!" Jasmine shouted, joining us.

It was just the three of us out here now.

The rest had taken cover inside the barrier that Rinne had created.

And what a do it was.

Perfect. Steady. Not even a crack after all these hits.

That’s my Rinne.

Her power. Her focus. Her brilliance.

"Hello? Cedric?" Taylor snapped again.

I nearly told him to shut up, but just sighed instead.

I looked ahead.

Eight drakes.

Tch.

"They’re coming!" Taylor shouted what we all could already see.

Two drakes burst forward, claws tearing into the ground as they charged.

I clenched my fists and started gathering mana in my palms, preparing my strongest spell.

Even though deep down... I knew it wouldn’t be enough.

Not here.

Not in this heat, where these beasts were twice as strong, their scales tougher, their movents faster.

Taylor had already drawn his daggers, ready to die like a fool. And that useless healer looked like she was about to pass out from panic.

I bit my lip and was about to release the spell when—

TNNNG!

A golden barrier rose up in front of us.

I turned sharply.

"What the hell are you doing?!" I growled at Jasmine.

She flinched. "I... I think we should regroup."

TNNG. TNNG.

The drakes slamd against the barrier again and again. Cracks started to bloom like spiderwebs.

Taylor was right beside , eyes still locked on the beasts.

"We can’t just hide there. Rinne’s been holding everything back for long enough."

Damn right.

I won’t let her carry us like this.

I won’t let her see as so weakling cowering behind a barrier.

I took a step forward, ready to throw myself into the fight—

But Jasmine’s voice stopped cold.

"Reinforcents already arrived."

I frowned. "Where—?"

Then I saw it.

There was no army.

Just one person.

One guy walking toward us through the sand.

His steps were slow but steady.

His crimson hair caught the light of the glaring sun, and I knew exactly who it was before I even saw his face.

I felt my jaw tighten.

My hands curled into fists as I ground my teeth in frustration.

Taylor placed a hand on my shoulder. "We both know we can’t win this..."

He paused, watching that figure grow closer with every step.

"...But he can."

My chest burned. My breath turned heavy.

Not because Taylor said that.

But because he was right.

So damn right.

And I hated that truth with everything I had.
