“Anyway, what kind of food do you two like? Is there anything you don’t eat? For example, those Bafakmon, Bakuesom, or Shakria?”
And there was another list of Northern dialect vocabularies coming up, making the half-French-half-Thai girl’s head spin the second ti. Those green eyes were blinking in confusion, before looking at her friend.
The fact that these words did not sound familiar to most people from Bangkok. But that did not include this wise girl.
“I don’t have problems eating those, Auntie. Winter lons and lemongrasses are fine. But you might want to be careful about tomatoes because Na really doesn’t like them. Oh, but you might already know that since you raised him from when he was a baby.”
Maysa did not miss the chance to bluff the other, before faking an innocent smile up, making the listener gasp up and down. And when Yoii glanced at her husband, she saw that he was curling up from holding in his laughter. So, her face turned red slightly as she realized that she underestimated the girl too much. And now that she had got to admit that Maysa had passed the first test with, ...full score.
“Then please excuse , I will go prepare the al in the kitchen now. You kids might be hungry by now.”
She said then walked away with her head down, leaving Waree to raise her eyes with confusion there, without knowing if they said sothing to hurt soone’s feelings or not. But after a while, she followed Maysa inside the big house.
The living room was a wooden room that looked neat and clean. It was simply decorated with a set of couches that looked comfy in one corner of the room. On the walls, they were hung with many fras of family photos and watercolor paintings. At the furthest side of the room, there was a glass sliding door behind the thick curtains that were now opened wide, revealing a small garden outside. There was also a louver on the top so the cold air could bring the sour sweet scent of strawberries in, making the room refreshing.
Waree and Maysa looked around the room amazedly. Because the first ti they saw the house from the outside, they thought that the inside would be decorated with so fancy furniture or many facilities, but no. The decoration inside looked more local than they thought. This small room did not even have air conditioning. Just natural air was enough to make the atmosphere here feel like paradise already.
“Our house might not look fancy, but it’s warm and cozy, right?”
A gentle voice of a woman spoke up, making everyone turn to look at her.
“Dah!” Wisana was the first to curl up a smile.
“Hi, boy. Didn’t you say that you’d arrive here yesterday?”
The newcor who was sitting in the room in the first place got up from a rocking chair in another corner of the room. She put down the small book in her hand back on the shelf, before walking up to the guests in a friendly manner.
She was a short-haired woman who did not look any different from those models on the covers of a magazine at first glance. Her face was gently sweet, and her skin was fair like a Northern, fitting well with her natural soft pink lips. And that made her smile look so cute.
The amber eyes that were like the signature of the family looked at Wisana for a mont, before she pinched his nose harshly.
“People on the farm were madly worried about you. You had to wait until late at night to call and tell us that you’d arrive here today instead, huh? What a jerk. Don’t you know that your sister was worried about you, too?!”
“You were? Even though we live in Bangkok, you’ve never co to visit at all. And we have to wait until Mom’s birthday to et up. Don’t you think that is kind of ironic?”
The brother retorted with an annoying smile, and the sister landed her fist on his forehead softly.
“I’ve been busy.”
“Busy being obsessed with your husband, I guess.”
“Watch it now, jerk!” She said and then ssed with his hair out of endearnt.
Wipada, known as Dah to her younger siblings, was the oldest daughter of the Waleerak family. She was a grown-up woman who had perfect beauty in a way that made Maysa wonder how Miss Wimon raised her children to all grow up to be good-looking like this.
“This is Dah, she’s the oldest sister.” Wisana introduced her smilingly, then turned to Maysa and Waree. “This one is May, who you might already know from Mom that she’s, my girlfriend.”
“So, this is the one.” Wipada narrowed her eyes as she looked at the other girl with a sweet smile. “You look so cute. But it’s such a sha that your luck is poor that you have to be his girlfriend like this.”
“Hello.” Maysa greeted politely, but with a little shaking in her voice like she did not know what to say next.
“Yeah, her luck’s just as poor as Nirut’s.”
Wisana was the one who retorted back to her, making his sister turn and sneer at him.
“What about this one? Let guess, you’re Nam, right?”
“Hello, Dah.”
Waree put her palms together in greeting cautiously. Those green eyes of hers looked at the older woman for a mont, before she forced up a nervous smile. Until now, she still did not dare look the other directly in the eyes, because how she was worried that the Waleeraks would not like her was obvious on her face like it was written there.
The extre anxiety made Wipada slip out a laugh.
“Aw, you’re cuter than he ever bragged about you.” She said, pulling the slim figure in a hug. “I’d like to have a cute sister willingly and instantly.”
“Y ...yes?” Waree was still unable to put the pieces together.
“You’re even cuter when you’re embarrassed. Hey, let’s stay at my ho instead. There’s no good staying at Na’s. He’s only good at cooking but useless for anything else. He will never be able to take care of you properly. Trust .”
“That’s getting a little bit too much now, sister. Aren’t you the one who eats all the food from the brother who’s only good at cooking before everyone else?”
“Shut it.”
She said as she pinched his cheek softly, making everyone laugh at that, including Waree who was so tensed up at first. Until now, Wipada was still having her arm around Waree’s shoulder. And that was a feeling that made her heart warm and strangely longing as well.
It was the sa feeling that Wisana always gave her.
A feeling of family.
After seeing the smiley face of his little sister, Wisana sneakily sent Wipada a secret wink code that said, ‘Nice going along, Dah.”
STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!
While their joyful atmosphere was going on, suddenly loud stomping footsteps were heard. It sounded like soone was running down from the second floor toward them at an incredible speed.
Wisana and Wipada looked at each other instantly.
“Here we go again. I think you should get ready for that a bit.”
“I’ve been ready since I got out of the car.”
Suddenly, Wisana leaped away from the group of his friends. He was many ters away like he was about to do sothing, making the two who were here for the first ti frown their eyebrows out of concern.
BANG!
The living room door swung open harshly, but it was still not as fast as soone launching themself through the door fra with a speed that no one could catch with. That mysterious person was targeting the black-haired man who was already holding his guard up, ready to defend himself.
BOOM!!!
