“Of course,” Father Jiang reminded her. “Alright, Qianqian, keep working on those files. I’m going to call your mom and grandpa. Tonight, I finally get to et this famous young man—I’m pretty curious myself.”

With that, Father Jiang walked out with his phone.

Jiang Qian remained seated, staring blankly at the spot where her father had been standing monts ago.

After a while, she muttered to herself:

“Why does it feel so natural that Sis is coming back with him? Like... is it supposed to be obvious they’re together or sothing?”

Fang ng spoke up:

“Honestly, Qianqian, have you noticed lately that every ti Uncle and Auntie bring up the Eldest Miss, they’ll casually ntion Lin Zhengran too? It’s like...”

Jiang Qian turned to look at Fang ng. Her gaze suddenly turned sharp and dangerous, radiating killing intent:

“Xiaong, what are you saying? Don’t tell you think my parents believe Lin Zhengran and my sister are dating? That’s impossible!”

Fang ng gave an awkward little laugh.

Truthfully, she didn’t want to think that way either. After all, when it ca to Lin Zhengran, she too had...

But the signs were all too clear.

Jiang Qian’s eyes turned cold:

“The reason our parents always talk about Lin Zhengran when they ntion my sister is just because he saved her life. They’re curious about him, that’s all. There’s nothing romantic between them, and there never will be. There’s no way they’d have that kind of indecent, shaful relationship.”

She turned back to the docunts in front of her, thodically writing with cold, emotionless strokes.

**“Besides, even if my sister’s... a little pretty—just a little—there’s a bunch of things that make her totally incompatible with Lin Zhengran.

Take age for example. She’s way older than him—three whole years! That’s three full years! If you round it up, that’s practically like a thirty-year gap in today’s world. How could an eighteen-year-old boy possibly date a seventy-year-old woman? Lin Zhengran’s not ntally ill.

And their family backgrounds? Don’t even get started. She’d only date soone born rich, not soone who’s a late bloor. She’s nothing like .

Plus, her personality? Totally not his type. I’ve been Lin Zhengran’s deskmate for three years. I know what he likes. He’s into the cool, aloof type. Not the older-sister type. No way would Lin Zhengran ever go for so ‘older woman-younger man’ romance!

And the most important thing—gender! My sister’s a girl. Lin Zhengran’s a guy. They’re not even the sa species. How could two people with completely different genders end up together?”**

She rambled on and on, spewing a whole ss of nonsense.

Fang ng was starting to sweat just listening to her.

She finally couldn’t take it and cut in:

“Qianqian, can I say sothing? I don’t think this is a situation you can just dismiss with self-deceiving logic. The fact that you’re spouting all of this so fast ans you can feel it too—Uncle and Auntie’s attitude toward Lin Zhengran and the Eldest Miss. If all you’re doing is lying to yourself... that’s dangerous.”

Jiang Qian’s pen halted for the second ti. Her bangs cast a shadow over her eyes, hiding their glint.

Dark energy practically seeped from her whole body.

She stretched out her hand:

“Bring all the work scheduled for this afternoon. I’m finishing everything within the hour!”

Then she could rush ho—shower, pick out clothes, tidy her room. She had to greet Lin Zhengran in her best state and completely crush her sister’s chances!

“Yes.”

Fang ng went to the cabinet to retrieve the files. Jiang Qian stared coldly at the desk.

Lin Zhengran... I won’t let anyone have you. Not even my sister. I will make you mine.

As Fang ng turned back with the docunts, she glanced at Jiang Qian, her eyes flickering with her own thoughts.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She picked it up and replied to the ssage.

Lin Zhengran... I’ll get you too—in my own way.

That morning, Lin Zhengran had spent quite a while at Zhengshi Company working with Jiang Jingshi.

After wrapping things up, they headed to the company’s private cafeteria.

He was now enjoying a lunch personally made by Jiang Jingshi.

In the past, Jiang Jingshi had always understood the idea of romance, but never imagined what she’d be like in a relationship.

Would she really beco one of those clingy won—always sticking to her man, needing to sit next to him even while eating, refusing to leave his side?

Now, Jiang Jingshi had her answer.

Turns out, she was even worse than that.

Loving soone... it was sothing you could never truly understand unless you’d experienced it yourself. Not outsiders, not even her past self.

“Zheng Zheng, let’s go ho a little early this afternoon, okay? I want to go change outfits. You too. I’ll have a stylist dress you up a bit.”

Lin Zhengran looked down at what he was wearing. “What, this outfit doesn’t cut it?”

Jiang Jingshi gave him a once-over. Honestly, for a simple dinner, his outfit was fine. His fashion sense had always been solid.

“It’s okay. If you want to wear that, then maybe just touch up your hair a bit.”

She reached over to adjust a lock near his temple.

“I’ll have the stylist clean up your edges a bit. You’ll look even more handso.”

“Sure.” Lin Zhengran didn’t really care—it was basically just a haircut to him.

“By the way,” he asked, “Jingshi, are you living with Qianqian and your parents right now?”

Jiang Jingshi shook her head. “No. I live with Qianqian and Xiaong. Grandpa cos over now and then, but Mom and Dad have never stayed there. They’re both super busy.”

“Ah, so Fang ng lives with you too.”

“Why? Sothing wrong?”

“No reason. Just making conversation.”

Jiang Jingshi nodded, but then paused, slowly realizing sothing. She glanced at Lin Zhengran eating beside her, and her cheeks flushed.

Wait... why is Zheng Zheng asking who I live with? Could it be...

In a small voice, she asked:

“Do you want sothing to drink, Zheng Zheng? I’ll get us sothing cold to share.”

“Sure.” Lin Zhengran nodded.

Blushing, Jiang Jingshi got up and walked to the mini-fridge. She pulled out two chilled drinks, then hesitated and said:

“Are you busy tonight? If not, after dinner and after my parents leave, we could hang out in my room for a bit. I’ve got a projector—we could watch a movie, chat a little. If there’s a book you want, I can have soone buy it right away. Basically, after dinner, just rest in my room for a while, okay?”

Lin Zhengran turned to look at her and saw the shy sparkle in her eyes.

He understood imdiately.

“I’m not busy, but...” He suddenly rembered that kiss from Fang ng after graduation, and then there was Jiang Qian...

Yeah, probably not gonna be much ti for a movie.

“We’ll see when the ti cos.”

Jiang Jingshi nodded, face glowing red.

“Okay. We’ll go with your plan.”

After lunch, they chatted casually.

At one point, Jiang Jingshi even dozed off on Lin Zhengran’s shoulder for a quick nap.

Since they had wrapped everything up that morning, Lin Zhengran and Jiang Jingshi left the company early—

—heading to the villa where the Jiang sisters lived.
