Chapter 126: Chapter 124: Developing a Heart Demon Over a Bite to Eat
An elder of the Azure Sky Sect looked at the disciples standing before him, feeling that sothing was... strange. He just couldn’t put his finger on it.
But it didn’t matter. This ti, their Azure Sky Sect had sent over ten thousand disciples, and every single one had returned with Spirit Stones. If he’d known those Demon Cultivators would actually pay up, he would have sent even more people.
A miscalculation!
Still, even with that, it was a reason to celebrate.
The elder was currently ecstatic. He waved a hand and said, "Alright, you’ve all done well. This ti, those Demon Cultivators suffered a loss at our hands, so they’re sure to hold a grudge. Be careful when you go out from now on, lest people from The Demonic Sects try to retaliate in secret."
As he said this, he couldn’t help but let out a hearty laugh.
Hearing this, the disciples who had just returned nearly choked. They rubbed their noses awkwardly, wishing they could just stare up at the sky.
’Oh, Elder! You’re celebrating way too soon. In a little while, you might not be laughing at all.’
’It’s true, we got the Spirit Stones, but... for so reason, after we went into the night market... our pockets are now cleaner than a washed face. Every single one of us lost 999
Spirit Stones.’
’Did we get the Spirit Stones? Yes, we did. The Demonic Sects kept their word. But... we didn’t even have a chance to warm them in our pockets before we handed them right back.’
’It feels like we got them for nothing!’
Walking into The Demonic Night Market...
...countless delicious foods beckoned to them—the kind you couldn’t stop eating once you started. For example, the grilled ats, especially those made with Spiritual dicine, were incredibly fragrant. They were just a little pricey.
They never knew Spiritual dicine could be grilled, let alone that it could be so delicious. Each disciple ate at least a dozen skewers, and those with heartier appetites devoured several dozen and still felt it wasn’t enough.
The night market had more than just barbecue; there were all kinds of other foods available.
It was incredible!
Who knew where The Demonic Sects had managed to gather so many food vendors.
Individually, the items were quite cheap, but a little snack here and a small purchase there added up. On top of that, the male disciples were buying jewelry, Magic Artifacts, defensive clothing, and other things for their senior and junior sisters, who would act cute and call them "Big Brother." Their Spirit Stone count was in a constant state of decline.
It all added up, and by the ti they left the night market, their pockets were cleaner than a freshly washed face.
The elder looked at them.
"The Spirit Stones? Take them out. Let
see."
He wanted to gloat a little; after all, they’d been wrested from The Demonic Sects. There was nothing more satisfying. Of course, the Azure Sky Sect elder had no idea that his disciples had already spent everything they had.
And so, upon hearing the elder’s cheerful words, the disciples’ expressions beca impossible to read.
Soone scratched their head awkwardly, but no one produced any Spirit Stones.
Mostly because they didn’t have a single coin left in their pockets. They were truly gone.
Seeing this, the elder’s heart sank.
He already had a suspicion.
’Don’t tell
they gave them the Spirit Stones publicly, only to send people to rob them in secret! That’s exactly the kind of thing those Demon Cultivators would do. Utterly shaless! So despicable!’
The elder arched an eyebrow and said, "So, the Spirit Stones you received were stolen back? You useless lot. You let sothing that was already in your hands get stolen?"
"No, that’s not it, Elder."
"They didn’t steal our Spirit Stones."
The disciple standing closest to the elder stepped forward.
He spoke up, "Elder, is it possible that... the Spirit Stones were spent before we even had a chance to warm them in our pockets?" ’And we spent even more on top of that,’ he could only add in his head.
The elder was dumbfounded. His voice rose. "What do you an, ’spent’? What happened? Explain yourselves clearly."
"Well, Elder, it was like this. After we received the Spirit Stones, we entered the night market... and then..." He trailed off, mumbling the rest of the story.
As he spoke, the disciples behind him nodded in agreent.
Soone else added.
"The night market was so much fun! There was so much to eat."
"Yeah, and the Magic Treasures were so pretty! They were made into all kinds of jewelry. I tried one, and it works really well."
"This outfit I bought is really nice, too..."
The Azure Sky Sect elder felt his world co crashing down. One mont, he had been gloating, thinking that sending his disciples to collect the Spirit Stones was a brilliant move. The next, he felt like he’d been tripped flat on his face.
"You... you people."
Looking at these disciples, who still had no idea what they’d done wrong, the elder clutched his chest. He felt like he was about to faint.
’This is too much!’
’I think I need dical attention.’
’How could I not have thought of this?’
’I was so focused on making The Demonic Sects lose money, I never considered that my disciples were completely useless—that they would actively rush to hand over their cash! What in the world is at that night market that could make disciples of my Sect so willingly empty their pockets, and still look like they’re dying to go back?’
’Damn you, Demon Cultivators! I swear, we are now mortal enemies!’
The elder was now absolutely livid, his voice rising uncontrollably.
"A conspiracy! This must be a conspiracy against the Immortal Sects! You’ve all beco degenerate! I sent you to get Spirit Stones to drain The Demonic Sects’ funds, not for you to rush over and hand them your money! Eat, eat, all you know how to do is eat! You’re cultivators, you should be Fasting! How can you still be so gluttonous? I always tell you how important it is to maintain a stable mind and heart. What have you been cultivating, huh? All of you, go and receive your punishnt! Now get out! GET OUT!"
The elder completely lost it, pointing at the disciples and giving them a fierce dressing-down, absolutely fuming.
He was about to have an aneurysm.
He was absolutely furious!
"Yes, Elder."
The disciples shuffled away, looking quite reluctant.
’We just bought a few things. What’s so wrong with that? The elder is really making a mountain out of a molehill. Besides, as long as our senior and junior sisters are happy, what’s a little money?’
Won have always loved beautiful things.
Celeste Grant had grasped this point perfectly.
That was why the night market had stalls selling clothing and jewelry.
Of course, the "jewelry" wasn’t just jewelry. They were actually various Defense Treasures and powerful offensive Magic Artifacts. But these Magic Treasures were all crafted to appeal to female cultivators, fashioned into all sorts of lovely designs. They were both beautiful and practical. How could any female cultivator resist buying at least one?
No matter the ti or place, won have always been the biggest group of consurs.
After the disciples had dispersed...
...the Azure Sky Sect elder was still fuming. The feeling of trying to pull a fast one only to end up being the fool who lost out was simply unbearable.
"Simply outrageous."
"I’m so angry my chest hurts."
At this thought, the elder’s resentnt toward The Demonic Sects deepened even further.
The elder sneered, and with a wave of his hand, he changed into a set of plain clothes and disguised his face to be completely unremarkable. Then, he flew off, leaving his Sect behind.
"I’m going to see for myself just what kind of tricks The Demonic Sects are up to..."
The Peak Masters and elders from several other major Immortal Sects had the exact sa idea. They all furtively disguised their identities and headed for the night market, equally determined to find out what was going on.
Similarly, they, too, received the Spirit Stones offered by The Demonic Sects. And then... they walked into the night market...
