Chapter 66: Soul Peak Beast Farm

Although Seraph was quite interested in Left’s soul injury, Halo also couldn’t deduce the source.

They parted ways after finishing their breakfast, with Seraph returning to his room.

Sitting on the bed, he crossed his legs and took a ditative stance.

Just like Elder Simone had instructed, he didn’t try to connect with spiritual energy.

Instead, he began to slowly eliminate the thoughts in his mind. Inventions, Elder Song, Halo, Sylvia, Left’s soul injury, Elder Mash’s uniqueness, Ariana’s wellbeing, lunch, the atmosphere...

Throb~!

That was when he felt it.

’Hm?’

Like a dull ache, he felt sothing press against him, then retreat.

’What was that?’

He thought to himself in confusion, not feeling the sa sensation again. Confused, he ignored it and continued ditating.

His confusion soon disappeared, along with the mory of that feeling. Everything was fading into... serenity.

Throb~!

He felt the ache again, stronger this ti. It was at that mont that it clicked.

’My soul...’

The thought was faint, vanishing instantly. Although he was devoid of thoughts and concern, Seraph’s attention was focused on that mysterious feeling.

It slowly spread, and an image of himself, ethereal and lacking special features like color, appeared in his mind.

It was a unique feeling. Like feeling the yoke simply by touching the shell of an egg.

Seraph remained in this state for minutes, almost reaching half an hour, before he fell asleep.

It was too serene for sleep not to take over.

When he woke up, the sun was already high in the sky, shining brightly.

’Noon.’

Seraph realized, rising from the bed and running a hand through his hair.

That pristine white hair was growing longer than he liked, so he took a blade and trimd it. Soon, his hair was back to its original shape, cool and attractive.

’I should probably cultivate for a while. Or should I go for a mission?’

Placing his hands on his waist, he pondered about his next decision.

["Why don’t you go on a mission? You can once again get materials for your new inventions."]

Halo’s suggestion made sense, so Seraph agreed.

Donning his disciple robes again, he locked the dorms and headed for the Mission Hall.

As usual, the building was bustling with Soul Peak disciples who were either taking new missions or completing old ones.

Seraph watched the view for a while before entering.

Navigating through the interior that resembled a bank hall—just less advanced—he arrived before the familiar old man that had given him his rewards previously.

"Hello, Elder. I want to request for a mission. Simple ones, preferably."

Adding the last line as a joke, Seraph smiled at the man.

The old man stared at him blankly for a few seconds, then turned around to rummage through his stash of missions.

Then, he brought out a paper and gave it to Seraph.

Receiving it, Seraph’s smile froze as he read through it.

["Clean the spirit beast farm at the bottom of the mountain."]

Halo recited, its voice scornful.

It was simple, but...

Seraph’s face darkened. ? A cleaner?

Although he wasn’t prideful or arrogant, he felt like this wasn’t a suitable mission for a disciple.

’Regardless, sigh...’

Lowering his head, Seraph accepted the mission and turned away. From the corner of his eyes, he caught sight of soone glaring at him.

As expected, it was the pathetic boy who had his aunt removed from her position a few days ago.

Ignoring him, Seraph strolled out of the Mission Hall and headed down to the foot of the Soul Peak mountain where the spirit beast farm was.

It took him less than an hour.

When he arrived, he was instantly awed by the share scale of the farm. It was too large!

["I have to admit, this sect is very wealthy."] Even Halo was amazed.

Seraph nodded, then stepped through the gates.

The guards didn’t stop him since he was wearing the familiar Inner Court Disciple robes.

This wasn’t the first ti disciples ca here to complete missions .

Seraph looked to the side, spotting a pen where spirit cows with flaming horns were resting.

To his left, bird-like spirit beasts fed on special grains, their large beaks looking sharp and deadly.

"Oh! Hello. Were you sent to help us clean?"

Seraph imdiately turned to the sound of the voice, locking eyes with a beautiful girl with lustrous black hair styled in twin pigtails.

He nodded subtly, earning a smile from her.

"That’s really great!" She smiled, "I’m Maria. Please co over. I’ve been having trouble dealing with this particular breed."

Puzzled, Seraph filled her, only to be stunned.

"This is..."

The spirit beasts before them were imnse. Having white fur, an absurdly large body, and large twisted horns, the beasts stood several ters tall.

Sending Seraph’s shock and wariness, the girl spoke softly.

"Don’t worry, these are Sky Bisons and they’re harmless. They’re just quite stubborn. That’s all."

Seraph’s eyes narrowed skeptically.

Just stubborn?

These creatures felt like they could topple down an empire. However, on a deeper look, there was no wildness in their large black eyes.

Only a soft, curious look.

["What a surprising species."]

Halo made its own comnt, then went silent.

Seraph turned to the girl. "So, what’s the matter with them?"

The girl clasped her hands together and shook her head.

"They won’t listen to . I want them to fly around for a while so I can clean their pen, but they aren’t leaving."

She looked seriously aggrieved.

Seraph nodded slowly, then looked back at the beasts. They really looked like smaller dragons with fur for scales.

’Sigh.’

Stepping forward, he jumped over their fence, landing in their camp.

The beasts all turned their attention to him, eyeing him curiously.

"Sorry, you all. But I don’t intend to ask nicely."

He pulled back his arm as if drawing an invisible bow.

The heat skyrocketed, and a fire arrow appeared in his grip, burning with intensity.

"I will only say this once. Fly or you get burnt."

Behind him, Maria’s eyes widened to the extre. "W-wait!"

It was too late.

Seraph released the fire arrow. Chaos spread.

MOOOOOOOOO!

The bisons started scrambling around, rising to the air as the fire spread. They rose to the sky, circling about and releasing earth-shaking cries.

Seraph watched coldly, then snuffed out the flas consuming the ground.

His eyes narrowed, and he turned to Maria. "You can co clean the place now."

The bisons had stopped shouting in the air, but they still refused to descend back to the ground.

Still reeling, Maria nodded blankly and entered the camp.

She imdiately got to work, using her unique control over the water elent to cool the land and clean out the burnt egestions of the bisons.

When she was done, she poured the murky water down a drain in the distance, then closed the covers.

Seraph stepped back, waiting for her outside the camp. When she returned, she had finally cleaned the place completely.

"Thanks for the help—though it was really a unique way of helping."

She said to him with a smile, earning a nod.

MOOOOOOOOO!

The bisons made noises again, then descended to the ground to have a feel of their ho. It was fresh and comfortable again.

Seeing this, Maria smiled.

"They really look amazing."

Curious, Seraph asked, "Who owns these bisons?"

Maria paused, then shrugged. "I’m not sure, but they say they belong to the Sect Master."

"Eh?"

Seraph was stunned, not expecting that. The Sect Master?

He rarely heard of that person since becoming a disciple.

["Well, for him to own such luxurious beasts, it isn’t a surprise."]

Nodding, Seraph agreed with Halo. He wasn’t sure any elder could manage spirit beasts of this caliber.

Putting the thought at the back of his mind, he turned to leave.

Suddenly, Maria said to him. "Um, we’re not done cleaning though. We need to clean the other places too."

Seraph’s face darkened, but he didn’t complain.

From afternoon till evening, the two of them were dedicated solely to cleaning the houses of the several beasts in the farm.

By the ti the sun was setting, Seraph was sweating.

It was a tedious work, even more so than fighting a battle—at least for him.

Maria seed to be doing fine. She was already used to it.

After cleaning the last cage belonging to a unique great serpent, he asked her.

"You clean this place all by yourself, everyday?"

The girl paused, then shook her head. "No. It’s a weekly thing. This week is my turn, next week and the upper one aren’t mine to handle."

Seraph nodded. "I see."

It was a little relieving. If the girl was the only one doing it for a whole month, then the sect needed to be questioned.

Washing his hands, he turned to her. "Alright, I’m done with my mission now. I’ll be leaving."

Maria smiled brightly, then handed him a lunchbox. "I prepared this for you. Thanks for the help."

Seraph nodded, collecting it with a faint smile. Instantly, he heard Halo’s voice in his head.

["Don’t you dare eat it! It’s poisoned like hell!"]
